I paid for Alt-J about 2 weeks ago at my local record store, 26$. I was glad to pay the extra 3$ over what it would have cost when I saw it on Amazon. They took my money and placed the order, through a secondary supplier, as their main supplier was out of stock. I went in a week later and they said that the supplier accidentally sent a CD instead of the record. Fine. Yesterday was by birthday, and my girl went into that store to get me a KILLER pressing of DSOTM (180g vinyl, absolutely AMAZING recording - sounds so sweet OMG) and they asked her to pass on a message for them:
Our supplier, since the order, decided they won't fill it. They meant to when they sent the CD it was just an error by the packer. By the time the CD got back to them, and they went to send out the record, the supplier checked the value of the record, and it had shot up from 25 to 55$ in the last week or so, for whatever reason. So we cancelled the order because we didn't think you would want to spend 61$ plus tax for a record you were planning on spending 26$ on.
So I got quacked. Right in the jerkstore. Now I have to decide if Im willing to spend 60 on it, or just move on.
Dammit.
One of the other legal beagles may know better than I, but I'm pretty sure the records store needs to fulfill the order at the price you paid.
You may be right, but I like the guy who owns the store to give him a hard time, and Im not hiring a lawyer at a few hundred dollars or more to force a record supplier to sell me a 60$ record for 25. I just wanted to vent. Hopefully they do a second pressing and I will get one of those. Or maybe a RSD release...?
So I just was poking around on eBay to check out what some of my records are worth (just for fun, I have no interest in selling them) and some of them are worth way more than I thought they would be! Pearl Jam Ten original press, Beck Mellow Gold on Bong Load and my Nirvana MFSL are all way more pricey than I figured them to be. Wow. Guess that happens when you have been collecting for 20+ years...
Just stumbling into this thread and thinking, where the heck have I been, I didn't know they still made vinyl (doh!). I have a nice collection of older vinyl (60s, 70s, 80s) that was passed down to me (or more specifically, that I rescued from family members' dusty storage buildings...). Will have to look up some more current albums; I can think of several off the top of my head that I'd love to have and listen to on vinyl.

I've been meaning to pick up that vinyl, didn't know it was so expensive! I looked around and found it on the WMG website for 20 bucks, if anyone else was still thinking about getting it

I haven't really religiously been posting updates to this growing collections, but here are some recent additions that I'm rather proud to add to the collection.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Alright. I hit a serious jackpot today. Found several bins of older records. Most were in decent shape. Not collectible shape, but the jackets were fine and most of the discs were fine. Playable with minor wear or sratches on some.
I picked up, in roughly an hour:
John Mayall - the blues alone Ten Years After - Undead Genesis - self titled Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St Rolling Stones - Made in the Shade Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (no zipper) Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks 1964-1971 Rolling Stones - Tattoo You Beach Boys Concert The Beach Boys Christmas Album The Kinks - One for the Road Fleetwood Mac - Rumors Fleetwood Mac - self titled The Clash - Combat Rock Jimi Hendrix - La Grande Storia Del ROCK (Italian import) Lee Morgan - City Lights Bob Dylan - Planet Waves Tower of Power - Bump City Neil Young and Crazy Horse - American Stars 'n Bars The Mothers of Invention - Freak Out The Kinks - Everybody's in Show-biz Wings - Wild Life Rare Bird - As YOur Mind Flies By (this is a rare record, and very psychadelic) Lonzo & Oscar - Mountain Dew Sweet - desolation boulevard (wanted it for a particular reason) Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - So Far Jimi Hendrix - The Cry of Love Jimmy Buffett - Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes Afro Celt Sound System - Release The Sound of Bluegrass The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Lord of the Rings (for my daughter to listen to, she loves LOTR) Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier Cream - Disraeli Gears Beach Boys Today! Tower of Power - Self Titled Bob Dylan - New Morning Earl Scruggs - Dueling Banjos John Coltrane - Eight Jazz Originals The Guitar Album (with Eric Clapton, John McLaughlin, T-Bone Walker etc) The Beach Boys - All Summer Long Sound track recordings from the film Jimi Hendrix
And a thing to clear dust off the discs before I play them
No, it was a friend of mine from WAY back in the day that actually turned me on to record collecting, and he called me a couple weeks ago and said he wants to start selling off his extras. So I went over there, grabbed a bunch that I liked and offered him 40 for the pile. He said "nah, just give me $25. Do you have one of these? I have like 10"
Hes just clearing out storage space and is sick of having all these records

That's how I built most of my collection. Some guy had a storage locker full of duplicates, and his wife didn't want him to have a storage locker full of duplicates anymore. I got about 300 records for $80. I've since sold off a lot of the stuff I didn't listen to for more than I paid initially.

I found some gems from Craigslist when people are giving away their whole collection. Gotta sift through garbage but there's some great stuff people are just giving away.

i have a pair of decent ipod phones. Would a significant amount of sound quality from the record be lost if I chose to plug in to my stereo with one of these? or would you recommend I go out and get a pair of real stereo headphones when I get the chance. Just asking before I waste 5 bucks on the adapter.
