Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Which extracurricular activities were you involved with in high school?
All the nerdy ones. I played tennis and was on the swim team. I was a peer counselor, an officer of several volunteer clubs, sang in the choir, and did math competitions. I'm sure you can guess how popular I was.
I no like scary movie. A couple reasons... one: I don't enjoy the physical reaction of being scared... too similar to anxiety; two: seeing violence (in movies, tv, video games, etc) often times makes my heart hurt, especially if it's just violent for the sake of being violent. Now if there's a great plot to something and there are some violent scenes for the sake of the story, then I'm more willing to watch, though I'll probably cover my face during those parts.
I heard you got your name by giving out Popsicles at bonnaroo even though that seems not to be the case, if you did give out Popsicles (which sounds like a dandy idea), what flavor would they be?
It's not how I got the name, but I did give out popsicles at roo this year... lots of them. I had tons of the freeze pops at brunch (tropical flavors). And I had fruit juice popsicles that I gave away in VIP Friday afternoon. Nothing better in the blazing hot sun! Next year (if I go), I'm going to go bigger... more popsicles... more dry ice.
First off, sorry for the confusion. Pondo, I feel you would make an excellent, BMOTM, but I thought after some of the dirty filth I spewed, this thread needed some cleanliness. Honestly, I thought I posted that early on the 1st, until I woke up and saw the 'reply' still on my phone. I have cut back on my alcohol consumption over the past few years. I hate hangovers. This weekend was one of those old times. K-Dogg you are right. This should have been announced before the 1st, that delay is 100% my fault, thank you for trying to keep the thread flow going and not have the next BMOTM lose days for possible questions. I bet that also sucked for Sangreal when Bonnoroo happened in the middle of his reign and he missed like 5 days, because everyone was at Roo.
I have truly enjoyed being BMOTH and becoming a life long member into a unique and specially selected group. This past weekend I was the officiant at an old friend's wedding. Yes, I was the minister. It is an honor to be asked to do that and I was more than happy to do so. I was very nervous, but it was an experience I enjoyed and look forward to doing again. I am taking a lot of things from this past weekend and those things are deeply intertwined with things/issues I am going through in my life at the present time. This was a good weekend for me. vrey good! Which leaves me to Sugarhigh question 'parting words', I have to go with my signiture, "Live for the Dash". I took this from someone, a poem, many, many moons ago and I am not sure who or where I read this story, but here it goes. When we die, a tombstone is made and placed to acknowledge our final resting place. One of the things on this tombstone is the date we were born and the date of our death. These dates are in big letter and represent the beginning and the end of our time here on Earth. In between those big letters is a tiny little dash. This dash represents what we did between the date on the left and the date on the right. How do you spend your dash? 'Live for the Dash'. Do things that, when your asked one day, 'How did you spend your dash?' you have an answer you are proud to tell.
and now I will answer my last questions as June 2011 BMOTM. ;D
I think it depends on flavor. Is it the sweet sugar ham or a more salty ham. I like salty ham. Is it older or newer flavor of KOL? old KOL > than a sweet (maple)ham, but new KOL< a saltier flavored ham sandwich.
5. I really hate doin' distance drivin' (gotta get back up to DC from Raleigh today, boo). Any plans on developin' instant transportation devices (ala Star Trek) or tube technology (like in Futurama)?
Black holes could lead to the answer to that or destroy us all. We still use the pneumatic tube system at my work, so I could see a variation of something like that in the future. I do think we should be looking into a nationwide high speed railway system. With rising gas prices and roads being crowded, I think a large network of 'super trains' connecting major cities, would go a long way in public transportation. It would be like when we built the Interstate road system. Jobs would be created to build the rails. Convert old car plants in Michigan and make the train cars there. These are not my personal ideas, not sure who's ideas they are, I heard them on the radio about 3 years ago. I like them. It would cost money, but it would also create jobs. I do not understand this country sometimes, 'we want to create jobs', but when that job creation cost $$, than 'we do not want to create jobs if it is going to cost $$'. but oops the banks made some bad bets, here is some $$$$$$ to help 'bail' you 'out'. America should invest in the creation of a national rail system that use high-tech super trains, that can go over 300 mph, to connect major cities.
6. Have you ever heard of the comedian Bill Hicks?
Things make me LOL around here on occasion, but even more rarely do I find myself leaning back in my chair having a laughing fit. Thanks to you both. I have to jump in with a follow-up: Was s/he awake when it started?
From my understanding she was. She took off my belt.
Sarah beat me to the punch on the best advice question. Dan'ROO beat me to the punch on the Bill Hicks question.
If I were to show up unexpectedly at your door and ask for an alcoholic beverage, what would be my options?
Jim Beam, Bud Lt, warm Jagermeister, an old bottle of white wine, or Malibu Rum.
What are your feelings on the practice of "gaping?" Feel free to use Google if you need it. SafeSearch off.
My feelings are gaping reminds me of a saralacc. If this is what I am thinking it is. It does not do much for me. With my little jedi and a large gaping hole, lets just say it is like the old saying, 'throwing a hot dog down a hallway'.
Do you have a favorite classical composer? If so, what is your favorite work?
My classical music knowledge does not extend far past Looney Toons, but I have always liked, Flight of the Bumble Bee by Korsava.
What's your favorite activity to do with a significant other (other than sex or physical affection)?
Laughing, which includes, riding roller coaster, funny movies, a trip to the comedy club, or telling stupid jokes at the beach.
When's the last time you went swimming? What did you wear (swim trunks, speedo, nothing, etc)?
I was wearing swim trunks a few weeks ago at me sister's pool.
What do you want to do for humanity before you are no longer part of this world?
redirect any negative vibes, that may be spreading in this world, into positive energy. Laughter is one of the vehicles that carry me through this journey, I try using jokes and humor and surprise to power my flight and induce laughter, and smiles, and joy, and positive vibes! and, I think jokes are like Italian food, even bad jokes are still good.
What do you think of Nashville?
I have not been there in forever and now that I think about it, it was one of our early family vacations. Now, I hear it is like the Hollywood of the east coast. I have a cousin that lives in Nashville. I need to visit. I want to visit!
I would love to splash around in MikeD's super swirly magic funtime pool and I see
Mike D is having a par-T
, this month. Will have to think about that!
Thank you Popsicle for letting finish my reign in you month. I will finish with some questions for you.
Who's your favorite TV chef? What is your favorite meal? Where do you buy groceries? What word is always difficult for you to spell correctly? What word is always difficult for you to pronounce correctly? Who did you meet this year at 'Roo that surprised you most in terms of what you expected them to be like? What is the coolest thing you have ever seen happen in the animal kingdom? Do you like fireworks?
~All the accumulated knowledge, experience, and suffering of mankind is inside you. You must build a huge bonfire within you. Then you will become an individual. There is no other way.
~~~U.G. Krishnamurti
"I don't know whose water this is, but I'm drinkin it so F you."~~~Dale
"He is a wook in sheep's clothing."~~~Popsicle Sarah
"You know the feeling when you're in too deep, and when you make it out, the taste - so sweet." ~~DMB
The Lilith Fair in Nashville? I was there too. Did Jewel come off as a total biznatch to you as well?
Yup, at Starwood in Antioch. I did quite enjoy Jewel, but she did kinda just stand there like she didn't give a quack. I thought Sarah McLachlan and the Indigo girls put on the best shows of the evening.
I rarely buy groceries, not really into cooking. I prefer to have someone else cook for me and I'm glad to pay. If I do go to the grocery store, it's usually Kroger.
What, exactly, in is your purse? Most and least useful item?
Contents: wallet, various medicines, keys, checkbook, pay check stub, mini manicure set, tampons, business cards, lip gloss, pen, cigarettes, lighter. Most useful: wallet? Least useful: checkbook, I really hate that I have one bill that I still have to write a check for.
Hmmm, let's see... We happened to go to the same high school, graduated 3 years apart, but didn't know each other. Fast forward a few years... I'm at this after hours club called Katatonik, puking in a trash can in the ladies room (classy huh?) and she asked if I was ok. I explained that I would be more than ok, that this always happens and it means good things are about to happen. We've been friends ever since... 10 years now?
1. Have you read The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy five book trilogy and/or seen the movie or old BBC miniseries? 2. Least favorite live performance you've ever seen? 3. Desert island scenario: you can only bring one CD/album, eat one type of meal the rest of your days, and one type of footwear, what will they be? 4. Favorite performance(s) this Bonnaroo?
3. Desert island scenario: you can only bring one CD/album, eat one type of meal the rest of your days, and one type of footwear, what will they be?
One album would be Okonokos by My Morning Jacket (although in CD form it's actually two). One type of meal would be anything mexican food. I LOVE mexican food! Footwear would be Sanuk's, CarpeDM's to be exact. They're my favorite shoes I've ever owned.
What game show have you imagined yourself appearing on?
Jeopardy because it has the least amount of luck involved, but I would definitely suck at it. I really like the old school game shows like Let's Make a Deal, Password, and Pyramid.
Ahhh I had Let's Make a Deal in mind when I asked the question, so what would you dress up as?
You said you loved MMJ - when did you first get into them? How many times have you seen them now? You wouldn't happen to have been with the giant Inforoo crew on the left side of the pit, would you?
Did any acts not live up to your expectations at Roo this year? Did any far exceed them?
If you could choose to pursue a profession other than your own, what would you choose? Assume factors like money, graduate degrees, etc. are not an issue.
Drink of choice?
I was so happy to read about you overcoming your anxiety at Widespread Panic and having such a wonderful experience. Was that premeditated at all, or just a spur of the moment, corn-induced impulse?
I'll be back with more later.
Is "Scooby or Scrappy" even a question worth asking?
Which video games have taken the most hours of your life?
I imagine that Mike D lives in a bright yellow house with a smiley face painted along its side. Could you please confirm or deny this?
When did you start smoking? What's your preferred brand? How much do you smoke a day? How many ashtrays do you own? Have you made any attempts to quit? If so, how many and what methods?
Any pro tips for giving a massage and/or back rub? Do people really use vibrators as "massage aids?"
Flipping the Dr. Ruth/"Talk Sex With Sue" question... would you rather hook up with Hugh Hefner or Larry Flynt?
Jeopardy because it has the least amount of luck involved, but I would definitely suck at it. I really like the old school game shows like Let's Make a Deal, Password, and Pyramid.
Ahhh I had Let's Make a Deal in mind when I asked the question, so what would you dress up as?
I hung out with my sweetie all day. We went to a get together at his friend's house. Drank beer and played ladder ball. It was pretty chill... just what I needed!
You said you loved MMJ - when did you first get into them? How many times have you seen them now? You wouldn't happen to have been with the giant Inforoo crew on the left side of the pit, would you?
I got into them in 2008. 2.5 times... but as of Sept it'll be 3.5 times! I wasn't in that group. I was on the VIP Hill. I daydream everyday about being back there. It was a very emotional experience for me. Teri and Bunny went in on a gift for me... one of those limited edition Bonnaroo necklaces and they gave it to me at the beginning of that show. I wept with joy and didn't stop until the show was over... then I cried because it was over.
Did any acts not live up to your expectations at Roo this year? Did any far exceed them?
The Black Keys were disappointing to me. Might've been because I was waaaay far back in the What field instead of on the Hill. It was too short, not loud enough, and there was too much time between songs. STS9 far exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to see them at All Good next week.
If you could choose to pursue a profession other than your own, what would you choose? Assume factors like money, graduate degrees, etc. are not an issue.
I'd love to be a teacher. I sort of am with my job now I guess, I just make more than teachers generally do.
I was so happy to read about you overcoming your anxiety at Widespread Panic and having such a wonderful experience. Was that premeditated at all, or just a spur of the moment, corn-induced impulse?
Completely spur of the moment. It was the right corn at the right time with the right partner in crime.
Depends. If I work a long day it can be less than half a pack because I never take smoke breaks during work. If I'm off work and drinking or at a festival it can be more than a whole pack in a day.
Have you made any attempts to quit? If so, how many and what methods?
Absolutely. I vowed to quit before I turned 30... as you can see that didn't work out. I've tried several times to quit cold turkey. I'm now resigned to the fact I'm going to need assistance to quit. We've talked about switching to e-cigs, just haven't done so yet. I think it might take something drastic, like an ultimatum or having children to make me stop. Anytime I think about quitting I get intense anxiety.
Any pro tips for giving a massage and/or back rub?
I'm not a massage therapist myself, but I would say that if you have the right intentions and you are a good listener you will do just fine. The act of sharing touch is extremely important to most humans, so I think it should be done as often as possible.
I dated a comedian who was semi-famous I guess. Rather not say the name, but he was a regular on Bob & Tom and a finalist on one of the seasons of Last Comic Standing. At my workplace I've met Nick and Aaron Carter, Pam Tillis (she's such a B), Nancy Jones (George's wife - she's soooo nice), the Undertaker (he's soooo tall), several Christian and Country artists that I've never heard of, and several Titans players.
1. If you could travel anywhere where would it be any why? 2. Favorite color? 3. Favorite and least favorite classe(s) in high school? 4. What was your high school mascot? 5. Sweet tea or unsweet? 6. Coffee, do you drink it? Black, with cream, sugar? 7. Any music that you listen to that you consider a guilty pleasure? 8. Any hidden talents? 9. I'm extremely tired but I can't go to sleep or nap right now, suggestions?
Oh no, you've dated a comedian? So have I. I'm sorry. What were the best and worst things about your dating-a-comedian experience?
I was entertained most of the time, but I felt as though I was his "audience"... like he was testing material on me all the time. We had some fun times, but I knew I couldn't get serious about anyone that was travelling that much.
1. If you could travel anywhere where would it be any why?
Brazil. I've always been intrigued by their culture. My dad has worked for a Brazilian company for almost 20 years. I've been hoping that would lead to a trip down there at some point.
3. Favorite and least favorite classe(s) in high school?
I loved any math or science class mostly because math was always easy for me and I love learning the "whys" of science. I absolutely loathed AP US History, mostly because it was my junior year and I was absolutely covered up with AP classes. It was the most difficult for me because I hate memorizing shit if there's not a process or a "why" involved (like math and science). AP History was the reason I wasn't valedictorian of my class. It was the only B I ever earned in high school (91 semester average) and we didn't have weighted GPAs. That whole thing still chaps my ass lol
6. Coffee, do you drink it? Black, with cream, sugar?
I drink it occasionally, but not often because I like the fancy $5 coffees. I really really like iced coffee, not too sweet with lots of cream or milk.
7. Any music that you listen to that you consider a guilty pleasure?
I stand by all of my musical choices, but I know I listen (or least own) some stuff that people around here would consider guilty pleasures. Let's see... Adele, No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, Shiny Toy Guns, the Ting Tings...
I have musical talent that I keep hidden because of an extreme fear of performing. I know I can sing or else I would've never accomplished what I did in that area as a young person, but I'd rather cut my own foot off than sing in front of anyone, ever. And it was always like that. I earned a solo at All State because I was 2nd chair, but I opted to give it to someone else.
