Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
If you were having a breakfast of pancakes n' sausages would you want links or patties?
How surprised are you with this coherent Lono post?
Slightly less surprised than I would have been before his equally coherent post in the scholarship thread! Although I usually find that Lono is actually pretty coherent, it's just a different brand of coherent than the one the rest of us are using.
Have you choreographed your dance for the inforoo brunch yet, and will it involve fire and batons?
I have so far not advanced past the brainstorming phase of this important choreography process. I can't dance for crap, so this should be highly amusing. I will probably have to rule out fire for fear of burning down the entirety of Camp Inforoo, but I suppose batons are a possibility. I may have to plan on wearing my tutu to brunch as an appropriate happy dance costume. And I am very open to suggestions for happy dance moves!
Is there really a lack of girls in there? That's unfortunate. I will make more of an effort to stop in there at times. I can't speak for anyone else but part of the reason I'm not in there much is that before the lineup is released there's a huuuge volume of posts, kind of a lot of repetition, and a lot of arguing/snapping going on. It's a LOT to try to keep up with. And then after the lineup is out, it seems like a lot of the conversation in there is discussion about each individual band, and I'm usually so poorly informed about most of the acts that I couldn't possibly contribute and even just trying to follow the conversation a lot of it goes over my head.
I always have these grandiose plans about listening to every act on the lineup and I figure once I have SOME idea of who each act is I will read what's being said about the ones I like. And then I never actually get around to listening to all of them. But this year I am DETERMINED to do better at that. I have created what I call the Bonnaroo Lineup Analysis Matrix, or BLAM!, where I will keep a record of everything I listen to. I will listen to at least two songs by every act, use those songs to determine which acts pass on to the next level, listen to a full album by those bands, and so on. Hmm. I should really get moving on that.
And I am fairly certain that in general, you guys do not smell. At least not until we are actually at Bonnaroo, at which point smell, like time, becomes nearly impossible to observe or quantify.

Melanie, congrats on your scholarship and your appointment as BMOTM. I found this instructional video that may help with your choreography. Practice, practice, practice.
Appropriate that you win become BMOM same day you win tics to Roo. How quacking excited are you?!?!?!
WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE. I couldn't SLEEP last night I was so excited. I spent all evening/night yesterday constantly squealing and grinning and doing excited little foot-kicks. And I'm pretty sure it really hasn't sunk in at all. I seriously cannot BELIEVE this.

Did...did she just set her girly bits on fire? On purpose?
I am pretty sure that will NOT be one of the moves involved in my happy dance.
Depends, is there gonna be SoCo at the brunch? ;D He will probably provide his patented "finger dance." Whether or not I can get him to actually dance is yet to be seen, but I hope he will join me and help dilute the embarrassment!
Do you see Lono or Jack as a bigger threat in the dance-off? Will you have some tunes to dance to or just just a freestyle? What was literally the first thing you did when you found out you won? If you could take one artist/band from the top three billed acts and replace them with another band in the same genre, who would you switch for who? Could you please elaborate more on this finger dance? Do all ten fingers dance independently or as a whole? Do you need anything from your fellow inforoo members to better prepare yourself for your Happy Dance?
I will start my question asking with questions stolen from Inside the Actors Studio...
1. What is your favorite word? 2. What is your least favorite word? 3. What sound or noise do you love? 4. What sound or noise do you hate? 5. What turns you on? 6. What turns you off? 7. What is your favorite curse word? 8. What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt? 9. What profession would you not like to attempt? 10. If heaven exists, what do you want to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? ----------------------------- Now, some questions from me? 11. Who are your heroes? 12. List your top 5 (or 10) favorite movies. 13. List your top 5 (or 10) favorite books. 14. What is your favorite genre of music? 15. What are a few of your favorite musical artists? 16. What are a few songs that you identify with? 17. What websites do you visit most frequently? ----------------------------- Personal Information 18. What is your full legal name? 19. What is the month and day of your birthday? 20. In which city(s) did you grow up? 21. What is your occupation?
Do you see Lono or Jack as a bigger threat in the dance-off?
HMMM. It's a toss-up. I expect Lono to perform the Truffle Shuffle flawlessly, but on the other hand it seems Jack's dance could be more similar to mine.
What was literally the first thing you did when you found out you won?
It was a happy dance, I kid you not. I believe it was a little bit similar to the thing the Roadrunner does right before he starts running. And Ed was pretty confused until I explained what was going on.
If you could take one artist/band from the top three billed acts and replace them with another band in the same genre, who would you switch for who?
Hmm, good question. Let's see. I guess if we label WSP as a jam band, maybe I would swap them out for the Dead. We've seen WSP more recently than the Dead (not counting other incarnations, I guess) so people might enjoy that swap. But on the other hand, it is kinda neat to have WSP back for this one since they were the first act to sign on for the first Roo. But beyond that, I wouldn't switch Arcade Fire since it seems everyone is really excited for that, and I don't really care about rap so I don't have much reason to prefer anyone else to Eminem, I don't think.
Could you please elaborate more on this finger dance? Do all ten fingers dance independently or as a whole?
It's usually a single finger dance, like a "one and two and one and two and" workout/dance ordeal. I have occasionally seen an entire hand of fingers dancing in sync, but I'm not sure I've ever witnessed all ten!
The sound of somebody trying to erase with a pencil that doesn't have enough eraser left so the metal scrapes on the paper oh my god I am going all shivery and squirmy just typing this.
8. What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?
I want to be either the person who draws those pictures of trials to show on TV when they're not allowed to film the proceedings, or the person who paints those bizarre abstract matching paintings that are always in hotel rooms.
Across the Universe, The Lion King, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Yellow Submarine, A Hard Day's Night, Big Fish, Almost Famous, Tommy, Moulin Rouge!. I think. Not necessarily in that order.
I might have to count a couple series rather than trying to choose my favorites from the series. Harry Potter, The Immortals (Tamora Pierce), Ella Minnow Pea, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Life of Pi. Or something like that.
Oh man, I am such a failure when it comes to musical genres. I am incapable of categorizing ANYTHING. But I like happy music. And catchy music. And rock and roll.
a) From what source do you get your news? 2) What news channel do you find gives the most balanced reports? iii) If you could spend one night with anyone alive and do anything, who would it be and what would you do? D) What song can you hear and always be put in a good mood?
iii) If you could spend one night with anyone alive and do anything, who would it be and what would you do?
Oh man. Hmm. Tough one! I suppose maybe I would like to meet Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr. And just...eat dinner or something, idk. Maybe we would go skydiving.
D) What song can you hear and always be put in a good mood?
Lots! Here I am bored anyway so I will give you an obnoxiously long list: "You're So Damn Hot" - OK Go practically any early Beatles song "Magnolia Soul" - Ozomatli anything by the Beach Boys "Will You Return" - Avett Brothers "Tiny Spark" - Brendan Benson "We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives" - Los Campesinos several songs by the Fratellis "Kate" - Ben Folds "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" - Paolo Nutini "The Longest Time" - Billy Joel "Make Your Own Kind of Music" - Mama Cass "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" - Georgia Satellites "Baby, Just Be Yourself" - the Pipettes "Till I Get It Right" - Fastball "American Pie" - Don McLean "Daydream Believer" - the Monkees "Young Turks" - Rod Stewart a lot of the Grease soundtrack and ten billion other things but I got tired of listing
Hi Pepper! Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!! And you shouldn't either so here goes:
What were you thought of in high school? Nerd, athlete, prom queen, dweeb, troublemaker, etc. Any sibs? Do you play any musical instruments? How long have you been going out with Ed? Have you ever had a Ted's Fish Fry and, if so, chili or tartar?

I was one of those inbetween kids - sort of the outcasts, not the popular crowd by any means, but everybody sort of left us alone. I went to a big school, so it's not like the popular kids were picking on us or anything. And I had a decent sized circle of friends - we were sort of on the edge of the goths/skaters/punks/emo kids/etc, our circles intersected a fair amount. And I will admit that I was definitely one of the smart kids.
I played violin starting in fourth grade, although I think I've only picked it up once or maybe twice since graduating from high school. I like to occasionally play around on guitar but I'm not at all good. Same goes for keyboards/piano, to a lesser extent I guess.
Have you ever had a Ted's Fish Fry and, if so, chili or tartar?
I don't like seafood, so I always just get a burger or chicken fingers or something when we go to Ted's. I can tell you that in my family, chili is considered the "correct" condiment, although I believe my mother prefers tartar.
What band are you most looking forward to seeing at Roo that you've never seen before? What album are you most anticipating the release of? What's this "Ted's" that y'all speak of?
What album are you most anticipating the release of?
Oh man, I don't know. I'm never really up to date on what's going on, and I never get albums when they come out anyway. I'm most anticipating hearing the Decemberists' new album, and it's been out for like 5 months now and I still haven't gotten my hands on it.
A fish fry place in my area! Definitely a local food - a long strip of fried fish served in a hot dog style bun with chili sauce (or tartar, if you prefer). Pretty sure they don't really exist outside of this general area.
What are you currently reading? How is it? What is your least favorite thing you've read? What do you plan on reading next? Is there anything you've been meaning to read for a while but haven't? What is one book everyone should read? Why? What are your thoughts on E-readers?
Did you like your name when you were growing up? Any nicknames? Is there any other name you might like to have? If you were to have children what would their name's be? For all the Mikes, Toms, Jess', etc in your life- do you ever refer to them as Thomas, Michael, Jessica, etc?
Not really anything right now. I just finished Gone by Lisa McMann (I read kind of a lot of YA stuff) and I'm anxious to find something else to read, but it's like I have a stack of books waiting for me but nothing I'm really dying to read.
If stuff I was forced to read in high school counts, then I read a lot of stuff I hated - Beowulf, Walden, Heart of Darkness. But not counting that kind of stuff, I think I'd have to say Lord of the Rings. Or rather, Fellowship of the Rings, since I got halfway through that book and gave up. My apologies to all the Tolkien fans out there, I just couldn't do it!
Got a few possibilities. Maybe Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency - I read the Hitchhiker's Trilogy a long time ago but never read Adams' other stuff so I might give that a try. The other things waiting for me are mostly young adult stuff.
Is there anything you've been meaning to read for a while but haven't?
I keep intending to read something by David Sedaris and something by Christopher Moore. And there are probably other authors on my list of things to check out too, but I can't think of them right now.
I'd say To Kill A Mockingbird. It's one of those classics that I think is good for everyone to be familiar with, but it's also a good book that doesn't feel like a chore to read like some "classics" do.
I'm torn - I wouldn't mind having one, but I think the whole system is just way too expensive. The e-books aren't enough cheaper than the physical books, and besides I don't buy every book I read anyway. I'd say most things I read come from a library, and most of the books I own were gifts. So in order to purchase the e-book version of everything I wanted to read, I'd be spending WAY more money on reading material than I am right now. And that's not even considering the price of the reader itself.
Yes! I've always loved my name. Unusual enough that I usually get to be the only Melanie around (or one of two or something), but still a name most people are familiar with. I get it misspelled or mispronounced a lot, and I get called Melissa or Emily a lot, but I still love it.
Mel. And once in a while Mellie, but that's mostly only to a certain few people. And I have one friend who calls me Mello a lot. My dad used to call me Mellabella when I was younger, and I think he still does once in a while.
If you were to have children what would their name's be?
Oh, it changes a lot. Ideally I would want their names to be somewhat similar to how I think of mine - standard names that people are familiar with, but not so popular that there would be three other kids with the same name in their class. Some of the names I've liked have ended up too popular - like Hannah and Olivia. Right now I kinda like Charlotte, Leah, Mia, Francesca for girls. For boys, Max, Nate, Noah, Ben, Sam. And probably lots more for each gender that I'm forgetting.
For all the Mikes, Toms, Jess', etc in your life- do you ever refer to them as Thomas, Michael, Jessica, etc?
I pretty much just call everyone whatever everyone else calls them. Which seems to be nicknames in most cases like that. If anything I'll nickname them more - especially with my friends from college. Tom tended to become Tommy, Mike turned into Mikey, etc. I never call anyone by their given name if they usually use a nickname (like Michael for Mike), that feels so weird to me.
Who is your favorite comedian? Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? How many states have you visited? Were you involved in any extracurricular activities in high school? Do you speak any foreign languages? Have you been to any festivals other than Bonnaroo? If Ed were to be jealous of your biggest crush on a celebrity, of whom would he be jealous?
Spanish. Sort of. Not fluently, but I took Spanish for 5 1/2 years. I can read it a lot better than I can speak/understand it, though! That's about it, I know a few words in a lot of languages and can sort of read stuff like Italian, French, Portuguese - the ones with a fair amount of similarity to Spanish.
I guess Michelangelo, but I mean, isn't he everyone's favorite? I always liked Donatello too, though.
This is one of my longitudinal questions I ask every BMOTM. I don't have an exact count, but I believe Michaelangelo is closing the gap behind leader Donatello.
A fish fry place in my area! Definitely a local food - a long strip of fried fish served in a hot dog style bun with chili sauce (or tartar, if you prefer). Pretty sure they don't really exist outside of this general area.
I didn't think it was the amazing hot dog place we have up this way.
What is your favorite style of food? What is your favorite cheese? If you had three months to travel with no worries about cost/work/etc, where would you go and why?
I keep intending to read something by David Sedaris and something by Christopher Moore. And there are probably other authors on my list of things to check out too, but I can't think of them right now.
I found myself staring at a table full of semester-end half-price books the past week, and couldn't get a response about David Sedaris starting point recommendations and only got "everything" as an answer. Would you yourself like some David Sedaris recommendations as well?
