It is like we live in a little resort town that gets inundated with tourists for a few months every summer. It is not that we don't want/need them here but it can get a little exasperating at times. Especially when they don't bother to learn the rules and make a mess.

This is starting to sound pretty elitist. Just because someone is new doesnt mean they are complete noobs that dont know what time it is. And even more so just because someone has been on this site for a while it sure as hell doesnt mean they know more than someone who hasnt. Its starting to sound like this site doesnt like to get new members and would rather be a private community.
Well, we do get a lot questions as to why the clock is off after daylight savings time begins/ends... So, yeah sometimes the new members struggle with the time

If we were being elitist we wouldn't let new members join. We would only invite people we thought were worthy of a membership.
To me........it doesn't matter how long you've been here..........if you're posting redundant threads or not following the rules you will get e-bashed.

the internet sucks. i rely a lot on body language/facial expressions for communication and that is not conveyed AT ALL over text, which can lead to a lot of confusion/bickering when someone doesnt understand what you said was a joke, and you typed in with a huge grin on your face but it looks dead serious in text.
also, when new people post repeat threads there should be some more tolerance of it because you cant expect everyone who has a question about bonnaroo to get wrapped up in the entire community and flip through every page of every thread searching for the answer. sure the question may have been asked 1 billion times, but they dont know that.
Although classifyiing all inforoosters as "haters" is a little too generalized.... I do feel the same way sometimes. I log in to fuel my excitement, but, it's hard to find many positive threads. I've only been to the first three Roo's, and decided to return this year b/c of Phish (and many other great bands) and b/c I thought the vibe would be better this year. Hopefully Roo hasn't changed too much since first few, but the negativity is not encouraging.
On a side note: I usually just lurk considering all of the thread gestapos and I don't feel like looking through hundreds of dead threads to find out if I am repeating something. People take that stuff a little too serious which in turn deters traffic and postings.
But I will continue to search for the positive posts and look forward to having a blast in June!

I don't like to join in major, heated discussions on the interwebs but I will now. I feel that I have found a whole new group of friends what are just as Roo-crazy as I am. Yah, there is some poo that goes on here and there but I don't think anyone here really says anything malliciously (sp?). Really everyone is here is here for the same reason, that being BONNAROOOO!!!!!!!!
"Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now!"

^^^ I just read through this thread, and that was a great ending
Really, this thread is not all that negative, like one would think based on the title... it's actually reminded me of a few of the things I will always love about inforoo

Hey now, you're talking about me, buddy I can admit I'm an idiot at the computer (the other day, I asked to have my username changed, didn't realize I could change the display name; definitely a "duuhhhh" moment), but not in general. I've never felt like anyone was rude to me, but then again, I usually try to avoid any of the bickering threads. I like coming on here because none of my friends are going to roo, just my boyfriend, so this place is like a substitution for that. It's the one place where I can't talk about it too much!!

I've been around here for a couple years and while I've never been a prolific poster, I've found myself lurking way more than contributing the past few months as well. It's weird, there's all these new people on here at this time of year, which has it positives and negatives, but I just feel like I can keep up with things and have better discussions during Inforoo "off-season."
A big reason for it being better in the off season is that during that time everyone on here is either sharing memories from the most recent roo or speculating about the next one and who the lineup will include. It's more fun and it's the people who stick around and it's a community.
When the lineups start getting announced (and released) this board gets flooded with people either not aware of the vibe or people who just want to get their one or two questions about Roo answered and not actually contribute to the forum.
i love the board year-round.......but it gets annoying seeing the same posts over and over again (multiple band posts, multiple question posts asking the same thing, posts like "if i leave so and so at this time will i get a good spot for so and so").
My problem is with itrainmonkeys. dude is like the inforoo police force. takes his self WAY too seriously. he patrols threads (although not a mod) to see if anyone had one thought or thread that wasn't completely original or "in its right spot" and then says rather dismissively or in a highfalutin manner..."already a thread for this". He takes the MOST joy in this, but isn't the only one...but just look at the comment above, he's annoyed by people asking questions, especially newbies who don't use the board ALL YEAR. well excuse us dude. I had posted in the Alberta Cross thread (IN THE RIGHT SPOT, cause it was in the artist directory you ann coulter) and dude is like "already a thread for this". WELL GUESS WHAT pal, that thread you linked has us sent to the thread i posted in OKAY...what then board policeman? The guy probably thinks he knows more about Wilco than me too. LOL.

yes i'm dead serious. guy acts like he's the thread police force in the Inforoo world. i'm not in the least bit joking when i say i believe he goes from thread to thread just looking for a repeat subject or post to jump all over the person or "newbie" (who's only on NEAR the festival, god forbid).

sorry bro.
don't really take myself that seriously. i actually post things in redundant threads to try and help....that way people know where the discussion is already going on and we don't have two threads of basically the same thing. just trying to help out
...but just look at the comment above, he's annoyed by people asking questions, especially newbies who don't use the board ALL YEAR. well excuse us dude.
I'm not the only one. I'm not annoyed by people asking questions - I just try to point out that there are multiple threads with the information that people are looking for. others do this as well.
Here's what happened there - I saw an alberta cross thread with a lot of discussion. I assumed it was the first (official) thread since it was most active. Then I saw the thread you posted in and thought it was a duplicate....so I was trying to direct the convo to the Alberta Cross thread with more discussion going on.
I admit - I was wrong about what the original thread was and I provided the wrong link. That's my mistake and i apologize......but no need to call me a biitch or say i'm a "policeman" lol. Wasn't trying to rub you the wrong way.
The guy probably thinks he knows more about Wilco than me too. LOL.
Nope. Never said that. The thought never crossed my mind.
The fact is - I work Monday to Friday 9-5. I sit at a computer with free internet access (meaning no filters or banned sites) and I'm in such a spot that I can freely cruise inforoo. I don't "patrol threads" looking for problems nor do I take any "joy" in finding the wrong thread in the wrong section. I am just able to spend a good amount of time on inforoo.
And I do so. I'm on inforoo a large portion of my day because
a.) i'm in love with bonnaroo b.) it helps pass the time c.) inforoo rocks d.) to find out latest info about camp site stuff, supplies, music, tours
I apologize if you have a problem with me. That's never been my intention. I only try to help.......which others do as well. Just because I don't put a "Hey there.....thanks for the post but ther's already one thread about that topic here" in my post doesn't mean i'm being a dickk or anything. I never post here negatively or to criticize anyone. Just trying to help man.
And if you really have a problem with just me - there's a simple ignore function on here that allows you to ignore specific members. add me to your ignore-list and you won't have to hear from me
yes i'm dead serious. guy acts like he's the thread police force in the Inforoo world. i'm not in the least bit joking when i say i believe he goes from thread to thread just looking for a repeat subject or post to jump all over the person or "newbie" (who's only on NEAR the festival, god forbid).
well - then you need to be hatin' on me also because I am really alot more active about pointing people to threads that are already posted - it has become a running joke that I can search this board and find whatever anyone wants.
at any rate - if you have a serious problem with him - it's always better to take it up with the personal one on one via pm instead of inviting tons of hatred and negativity on the open board
Post by itrainmonkeys on May 22, 2009 10:48:21 GMT -5
Also....looking at the alberta cross thread - it looks like the two threads were merged together.......but I could be wrong. Any mods know about this?
If I did mess up - I still apologize. But it's possible I posted in one thread and then the threads were merged. I could be wrong tho....don't kill me if i'm wrong.

well i don't want to "take it outside" or anything LOL...but i hear ya, i just hope he reads that and realizes that he can be condescending.
i see you post on here all the time meg, and you've never done it to me so i can't speak to that...but to sit there and say ppl deserve to be e-bashed for repeat posts and he hates newbies like itrainmonkeys did, well that's just taking one's self a little too seriously on an internet chat board.

When I read the rant I actually wanted to say....dont you mean Meg lol. Anyway if anyone tells you theres already a thread or something is in the wrong place...its not calling you out or hating on you....its trying to keep the board clean and easily accessible for those that use it as a resource for Roo. Can you imagine how much of a redundant mess this board would be if people didnt point out active threads covering the same topic?

ok ITM...we all good. i'm a bit touchy this morning...and was still thinking about the alberta cross thing. i should just let it go. the know more about wilco comment i made was petulant as well. maybe i'll see you at the show and festival at large....have fun!

I dont think anyone has ever said "Hey idiot theres already a thread for that" I wouldnt take it as e-bashing. If I posted a redundant thread I would expect someone to point it out to me and it would be in the same fashion thats its done to members here a week or 3 years.
i believe he goes from thread to thread just looking for a repeat subject or post to jump all over the person or "newbie" (who's only on NEAR the festival, god forbid).
Do you mind finding the last 5 or 10 posts of mine where i "jump all over the person"? I honestly don't see where I'm being so horrible.
Of course.....if you're already ignoring me you won't see this message lol. We'll see.

cool.......i let my real life annoyances bleed into forum posts sometimes too.......but as far as the problems you had/have - I really am trying to help. not being negative in the least and sorry if you took it that way.
my last post was made before I saw this post so disregard it. also - don't take it so badly - I can't tell you how many times on this forum (or others) that i've posted in the wrong spot, or a thread that already is being discussed only to have someone make me feel foolish. it happens......it's just the internet......we shouldn't bicker over silly things like message board problems when we have bonnaroo 3 weeks away
