Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
i have pretty much become a lurker over the last few months because of my frustation of this... nothing worth gettin' upset about tho, it is just the internets. i come for the information and my loyalty to our roo.
I hear ya, man. I still lurk around but at this time of year this place is out of control. I think a lot of new members have never been to roo so they don't really understand "the vibe" that is there and (for the most part) here, too.
I like to lay kinda low during peak season and I find myself becoming more active in the off season. For instance, I log in everyday and until now, my last post was May 8th. The new threads may be few and far between during the fall/winter but the quality of argue free conversations is much more valuable.
I really hope this doesn't come off as pretentious or snobby but stick around and you'll see what I mean.
I've been around here for a couple years and while I've never been a prolific poster, I've found myself lurking way more than contributing the past few months as well. It's weird, there's all these new people on here at this time of year, which has it positives and negatives, but I just feel like I can keep up with things and have better discussions during Inforoo "off-season."

A big reason for it being better in the off season is that during that time everyone on here is either sharing memories from the most recent roo or speculating about the next one and who the lineup will include. It's more fun and it's the people who stick around and it's a community.
When the lineups start getting announced (and released) this board gets flooded with people either not aware of the vibe or people who just want to get their one or two questions about Roo answered and not actually contribute to the forum.
i love the board year-round.......but it gets annoying seeing the same posts over and over again (multiple band posts, multiple question posts asking the same thing, posts like "if i leave so and so at this time will i get a good spot for so and so").
I'm not a big fan of all the negativity that flies around here this time of year either..... but that being said, this thread is just fueling the fire and I really don't appreciate being called a hater... this thread groups EVERYONE on Inforoo as a whole and that's not nice. And this post:
Look out man... people here are haters. Make sure you don't speak your mind, you'll get attacked.
in the thread for new people isn't cool either. Just because you've had some sh!t thrown at you doesn't mean you need to be saying things like that to the new folks. That just makes us all look bad, original poster included...

was anyone around for the krewe of roo?... there were some seriously negative people there!
I think that the most negative vibes there surrounded "Primo" (aka "Goofy Tyler" aka ???). His desire to get all sorts of attention and the willingness of so many folks to get sucked into it was such a huge distraction there.
There were some really cool folks there, though. (A good core of them migrated to jamfanforum.)
As far as the OP's point, there will always be "haters" out there, especially in the relatively anonymous and consequence-free message board setting. If you ignore them, they tend to get distracted by something shiny somewhere else and wander away all by themselves. If you engage, they will stick around to stir the pot.
Also, and I have not read any of your posts outside of here, some people may legitimately disagree with you and that's their right. Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from having your feelings hurt - it generally guarantees that it's going to happen.

lol yeah that name sounds familiar! vague memories... i just remember anything that was posted got bashed... i migrated to jamfanforum as well for a bit... then here... and i rarely post/read anymore anyway except when my pre-roo jitters require a outlet so i probably shouldn't comment anyway ;D there's just too much info for me to keep up with - i'm lazy!
To me this just proves how important non-verbal communication is. I have been misinterpreted a couple of time and people have jumped my case for it, and for the most part I have either been in agreement with them or I was not has negative as it may have came across. So I don't think they were being "haters" as much as they were misinterpreting your idea, which if we are honest can come across as either smug or funny
I'm the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished With the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid Allergic to the counterfeit, impartial to the politics Articulate but still would grab a ni**a by the colla quick

well said - and very true!
Agree, agree, agree.
I remember when the question used to be "Why are all the Inforooers so peace, love and happiness?" Not that there weren't disagreements, but nothing like I see today. Just well thought out, mature, civilized discussions. I never have been one to post a lot, but I used to read everything. Now I don't find much that interests me.
Like Superbek said, the "vibe" at Bonnaroo and here used to feel the same. I'll tell you this -- I've never had a conversation with anyone at Roo that wasn't all peace, love and happiness.
Everyone will find out in a few short weeks.
Long ago someone here said -- all your friends are there. Ain't that the truth.
I love Three Sheets. One of my favorite shows of all time. Do you know if there's any word of it being picked up by another network?
From Wikipedia:
With the ending of the MOJO HD network on December 1, 2008, it is unclear whether Three Sheets will continue on another network. The fourth season has been put into production with a majority of the shows completed. Zane Lamprey has personally expressed to the fans of the show to write other networks in an attempt to find the show a new home. The channels that have been asked to purchase Three Sheets are, the Travel Channel, Spike TV, Food Network on which Zane Lamprey hosts Have Fork, Will Travel. [2]
Zane wrote on March 18, 2009:
I've spoken with the new network, and they've asked that I personally make the announcement Three Sheets will be gracing their network. But, they've asked that I wait until the deal is done-- when they assure me is by the end of this week, or early next week. So... Three Sheets is saved. And as soon as I get the official nod, I'll post it here on my web site. In the meantime, if you were at the party and heard Steve McKenna leak the news, please refrain from posting the name of the new network here. I gotta respect our new home. It'll only be a few days now. I promise! [3]
Though Zane has not publicly made an announcement it has been reported by friends of the show that Three Sheets will be airing on Fine Living Network starting sometime this summer. This has been posted multiple times on his websites forum by friends of the show.
On May 2, 2009 Zane hosted "Zano De Mayo", which became the "We Saved Three Sheets" party. At the function it was announced that the Fine Living Network (FLN) has purchased Three Sheets. Three Sheets will begin airing on FLN on Friday May 29, 2009 at 11:00pm and 11:30pm EST. This will also be the season 4 premier with 2 all new episodes. (New Zealand & Tanzania) Three Sheets will air every Friday at 11 and 11:30pm.

yeah, have to completely agree with this one. it gets a little intense around the start of may - lots of people with lots of opinions clashing - 85% of which will never come back to inforoo after roo.
and that's fine - that's the point of the board, in a sense.
i do love the post-roo wrapup threads that take control until the middle of july. good times
inforoo is cool because you actually get to meet these people. that's what separates it from many other forums - and i think that also lends itself to a somewhat higher level of civility, since you will eventually be looking that person in the face.
I prefer the term "haterz" but thats just me lol....yea I usually just lurk around the board the last month before because it does get crazy around here and I do believe it is the barrage of new members that come on. Then it will settle down, they will quit posting and it goes back to the happy inforoo family. until next May

It is like we live in a little resort town that gets inundated with tourists for a few months every summer. It is not that we don't want/need them here but it can get a little exasperating at times. Especially when they don't bother to learn the rules and make a mess.
This is starting to sound pretty elitist. Just because someone is new doesnt mean they are complete noobs that dont know what time it is. And even more so just because someone has been on this site for a while it sure as hell doesnt mean they know more than someone who hasnt. Its starting to sound like this site doesnt like to get new members and would rather be a private community.

No if you read above its the new members that dont follow the rules, post stupid threads, dont spend the time to read the site before posting a thread thats already been posted 50 times and those that post just to try and start controversy.

I have no problem with new members, but a lot of times new people do not bother to learn the board etiquette. To those of us who use this a resource it is really frustrating. For instance when a new person joins, starts a new or redundant thread in the wrong place, then begins to bitch about being told the rules it gets old. When it happens three times a week it gets even older. This site is a private community BTW it is just one that has open enrollment. A lot of new members get irritated when reminded of this fact. I know a couple of months ago people were advocating electing new moderators like this is a democracy or something.
Anyway I am not an elitist, and I like almost everyone on here, and am looking forward to meeting you guys at brunch. The point is that if people would just learn to use some common courtesy they wouldn't have to feel like the longtime members were haters.
I agree in part and disagree in part. I think the new members are most definitely attacked more than old ones. Its not just a coincidence that so many new members make the same complaint. I understand the board "etiquette" thing and hear what you are saying. But that being said even new members that follow the unwritten and written rules of this board get bashed for speaking their mind because they are new. I am all for good debate(thats probably obvious) but I have seen veterans gang up on a new person quite a few times.
I am not talking about anyone or any thread in particular, just an overall attitude that I am sure none of the veterans even realize is going on. I have said before that this board can get cliquey at times and I stand by it. But its not just this board, its most of them that have been around for a bit. I just think that as people become virtual friends and build virtual communities they band together in a way. And in doing that there is almost always a negative feeling that new people feel that the old people are oblivious to.

I just disagree with you I guess, I have never seen anyone attacked for expressing their opinion. Unless their opinion is something along the lines of wanting board policy changed to suit themselves. Like the censorship, and bring Creep back threads. There is a fine line between rebutting a stated opinion, and attacking mostly inforoo stays on the rebuttal side. Compared to almost every other music board this one is definitely the nicest I have ever seen.
We do have some trolls who tend to go after people but on the whole that is counterbalanced by those of us with a little common sense and decency. For instance the OP on this thread, who got a little upset at the way she was treated was then defended very vigorously by more than one person on here, and before sh started this thread. I will accept that things can get a little negative here, but on the whole I think we do pretty well.
