I'm over the Beastie Boys. I find their music just silly. I saw them at Langerado, and they put on a decent show, but I have no interest in seeing them.

Having seen the Beasties many more times and more recently than Byrne, this is not the conflict of '09 for me. That would be Wilco/Elvis Costello/Mars Volta, which I think is an affront to all of music. Followed closely by NIN/MGMT/moe. However, I don't mind that conflict AS much, since I like to run around at night. YARGH!
I'm really glad there is some counter programming during the Beasties. I thought they were going to play unopposed Friday night. David Byrne is a "don't even have to think about it" winner for me.

Im goin to see Beastie Boys and it wasn't really a hard decision. Choosing between The Mars Volta and The Decembrists is tougher for me or chossing between late night saturday sets
it's gonna be one hell of a show, and after burning all day thru Animal Collective, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and TVOTR i will deserve an awesome spot. 2 hours of Byrne!
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
"It's hard to say whether seeing Kellz backed by Jim James and his lion's mane hairdo or Billy Idol rocking out next to John Oates and his soul patch was weirder to watch. Let's just say both were beautifully bizarre sights to behold."

i haven't seen beasties or byrne i know beastie boys will be a party, but i've been getting into byrne/heads lately, and i know he's a great performer from what i've heard who do you think i should see this time? this is by far my biggest conflict

i LOVE the beastie boys, have loved them for as long as i can remember. i was also dying for them to be added to the lineup the past two years, however, i probably only see whats left of their set after Mr. Byrne has rapped up. its probably my biggest conflict too and yet its still too easy of a choice

I've seen both, more than once, and I say go with Byrne.

Seen the Beaties 3 times Seen Mr. Byrne 3 times
Both are great and both are parties... but if you've seen neither, I say see Byrne!
I say if u cant decide see if u want to see Al Green or TVOTR more and go with that and get a good spot for the next show.
Good plan. I just noticed that Yeah Yeah Yeah's>TVOTR>David Byrne is probably the sweetest 3 band block ever on one bonnaroo stage. Who else is going to be there with me during that block, because I will not be leaving that spot, that will progressively get closer leading up to Byrne, to even piss! This definitely makes picking Byrne even easier for me. I'm actually surprised Galatic's and Yeah Yeah Yeah's spots aren't switched.

I will be there from AC to Byrne not leaving for a minute, and getting closer after each show. Just look for my buddy, a 6'8 dude dressed like Dr. Gonzo.

I've seen the Beasties, way back on the Ill Communication tour. Great show, but everyone I know who has seen Byrne says it's one of the best shows they've ever seen. I can't miss that.
However, I agree this is the worst conflict ever. Two of the top five names on the poster. Though not the worst for me personally. That would be the BB vs Levon vs Zappa vs Iron and Wine vs Ben Folds from last year.
I agree - I never wanted to miss Ben Folds! I of course went with BB, but I had seen Zappa 4 times before, and Folds 8 times since the late 90s - but a total bummer not to get to see Iron & Wine. I never want to miss Ben Folds again though!!!

Anyone know what David Byrnes recent selists look like? I'm currently obsessed with the song "Dance On Vaseline" and was wondering if it's something he's played recently or if it's something I have no chance of hearing...

i don't feel like looking through a bunch of setlists... but one of the recent setlists i saw, didn't have it on the setlist... so i'm taking it that he probably hasn't played it in awhile.
There's a Byrne thread elsewhere on the board. I've seen him a couple of times recently and don't remember whether it was played, but setlists have been posted in the other thread.

I've been a fan of the Beasties for about 10 years. I've heard about 4 Byrne songs and none of them were really my thing. The B-Boys are on the top of my must sees, so this is a no-brainer for me.
You are obviously very young Fight if you've only ever heard 4 Byrne songs and only been a BB fan for 10 years so I will have to go with Candy and say listen to more Byrne. But. hey, its not for everyone and if not you then its good that this conflict is a no-brainer for you. I wish it was as easy for me. For me I don't really expect to see either of these bands again (as I would not go to either of their shows if it was just them and not in a festival setting) and I have have seen both but it was many years ago Byrne around '88 in Central Park, NY with a big world band and Beasties ..... well...a few times at CGGB's in NYC before they were a rap band and then in '96 I think it was at Golden Gate Park in SF at the free Tibet show. I wanted to see both of these acts at 'roo this year...oh welll
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

i dont really see why two artist so high on the lineup, and stand to both bring huge crowds, bonnaroo has them playing at the same time..
i really hope they fix some of the conflicts that are just not logical.
personally for me, im going to catch the first bit of david bryne then beastie so ill be at WHAT stage for phish (unless they close off the WHAT stage in that hour) but i dont see why they would because phish is not the only band playing so technically phish isnt really a headliner on friday.
