You are obviously entitled to your opinions, but here are a few suggestions... Don't think that Phish equals the Dead. Totally different music. Don't think of it as hippie music. I'm far from a hippie. I listen to mostly electronic music and think most jambands suck. Phish is far superior than "hippie music." Do yourself a favor and watch their sets. They are sure to impress.
Obviously I'm most excited for Phish. Other than Phish I'm super pumped for Midnite, David Byrne and Erykah Badu.
Honestly, it's been at least a year or two since I've even listened to any Phish, so I guess I can't judge. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit, guys. And yes, I'm definitely gonna check them out... as much as they're playing, it'd be hard to avoid even if I wanted to.

god damnit i just typed a whole fucking paragraph about phish, the dead, and ABB about jambands/rock n roll in general and the influence country/southern music has had on it and my fucking google crashes for the 15th time. oh well. basically, IMO good rock and roll is derived from southern/country music. this is apparent in bands like ABB, the dead, the band, doobies, but i dont get that feel from Phish at all. anywho...
Im going down, to the central part of down... Im going down, to the garden of infinite pleasantries!!!
I just read all the hatin' on the Dead/Grateful Dead that was going on on the previous page and it kinda made me a little sad... I mean, totally, you guys are entitled to your opinions but I just don't see where you could possibly be coming from with all that.
To stay on topic though, I'm really looking forward to Booker T and the DBTs, Gov't Mule, and David Grisman (although I CANNOT miss the Mars Volta) as well.
i am excited about phish- dancing around with all the happy people. gov't mule. grisman. del mccroury & the bluegrass. andrew bird. moe. band of horses.
AND i am going to do the silent disco. i didn't try it last time.

Sorry, but even a die hard fan of the Grateful Dead would admit that they get way too noodly and directionless at times. Thats just part of taking chances. I just find that as my musical tastes mature I'm just not as in to the Dead as I once was. Jerry = top 5 singers/songwriter/guitarist Phil = top 3 bassist At this point in time I would rather listen to a JGB song than listen to a 30 minute, hippity dippity Dead jam. There are some exceptions to this, but I have come to believe that except for the years the Dead were on top of their game that the sum is less than its parts. Late 60's Dead, 72-73 dead, 77 dead, some of the Mydland years = top notch. A lot of the rest of it just isnt consistent or that good to me though.

It's just an easier question to ask about what bands you aren't excited about. I had the ones I knew already. I looked them up on the schedule and saw where the gaps were. I have had a super easy time filling in gaps in the schedule with bands that sound great but I didn't know about before seeing them on the Roo schedule.

I have to agree with this. In fact, pretty much in full.... even picked the right good years for the Grateful Dead....

1st of all, I'm cracking up over sentences like, "god damnit i just typed a whole quacking paragraph about phish, the dead, and ABB about jambands/rock n roll in general and the influence country/southern music has had on it and my quacking google crashes for the 15th time."
It just sounds hilarious to me.
The Beastie Boys sold me, but I'm in love with Todd Snider. I would travel to the ends of the earth to see that man. Sigh...
I'm also excited to see Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, Booker T, NIN, Al Green, and the whole bluegrass lineup.
This is going to be a quacking fabulous experience.
