The last episode made me realize something that i had been subconsciously noticing but never picked up on. There are quite a few parallels to Shakespeare's tragedies, particularly Hamlet and Macbeth. The Ophelia scene is what made me put it all together and then the "blood on my hands" line later in the episode pulled it all together.
File Under: Reason #437 Why Bacon Rocks.
I hadn't even had that 150-watt Shakespearean epiphany (and I'm a huge fan of the Bard!) but now that you mention it... yeah, it makes perfect sense. And we all know what happens to Shakespearean protagonists. It ain't pretty.
There are parallels in the power struggle of Jesse & Walt and Brutus & Caesar in Julius Caesar:
Brutus: It must be by his death, and, for my part, I know no personal cause to spurn at him, But for the general. He would be crown'd: How that might change his nature, there's the question. It is the bright day that brings forth the adder And that craves wary walking. Crown him? that; And then, I grant, we put a sting in him That at his will he may do danger with. The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins Remorse from power, and, to speak truth of Caesar, I have not known when his affections sway'd More than his reason. But 'tis a common proof That lowliness is young ambition's ladder, Whereto the climber-upward turns his face; But when he once attains the upmost round, He then unto the ladder turns his back, Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees By which he did ascend. So Caesar may; Then, lest he may, prevent. And, since the quarrel Will bear no color for the thing he is, Fashion it thus, that what he is, augmented, Would run to these and these extremities; And therefore think him as a serpent's egg Which hatch'd would as his kind grow mischievous, And kill him in the shell.
So, yeah... Walt has climbed the ladder of ambition and grown powerful, and is like a serpent's egg that's hatched. Jesse is Brutus, waiting to strike down the one who has grown too power-hungry.
Oh, man! Why didn't I notice this stuff earlier? You're a genius, Baecs! ;D
I also see parallels (and possible plot twists!) between The Tempest and the chemistry side of BB, which Mayo will appreciate!
"These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits, and Are melted into air, into thin air; And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve" (IV.i.148–154)
There's no denying that I began loving BB due to it's chemistry and the type of drug they decided to hone in on (yeah yeah, weeds is a great show, but come on. BB focuses on CRYSTAL!? the drug of hillbillies in the deserts of ABQ!? BRILLIANT!) but as it's grown, it's just gotten more intelligent and intriguing.

I'm kind of really into theme dinners so I'm making Beer Brats (Newcastle Summer Ale) in honor of Madirgal. The beer is british, but the brats a definitely german.

And Aaron Paul says, at the end of the 4:39 video - DIRECT QUOTE HERE PEOPLE - "the next episode, shit hits the fan." And then he smiles. OMG. OhEmGEEEEE you guys.

IMO the last 30 seconds are exactly what they all meant by this episode being a big one. before no one who didn't have a hand in all the shit that was going down had really been killed (the kid who was poisoned got better). i think jesse had always been in denial that walt was the same ole mr white from HS and now he knows that just isn't true anymore. innocent blood is shed and jesse just won't be able to deal with that.
And to think that was just the beginning of what I'm thinking is the downward spiral of the rest of the season.
And so many mentions of "someone knocking on the door to kill Walt's family." And the fact that Walt can't make the promise that it's a possibility. Makes me think there is more foreshadowing going on here.
Walt watching Scarface, "Man, everyone dies in this, huh." No way this story can have a happy ending.
I don't think I took a breath from the time the train stopped until it pulled away again. Then there was like this huge exhale and one HOUR of stress just dissolved, and Im smiling and kind of mentally high fiving the guys, and then BOOM - instant stress with no resolution in the last 30 seconds. I went to bed completely wound up. UGH HOW IS THIS SHOW SO GOOD?

First off, the scene with Lydia on the phone with Hank, incredible. That train heist was one of the coolest train heists I've ever seen, movies or television. And that ending... Jesse screaming "No!" surely thinking about his "adopted" son Brock. I mean it just doesn't get any better than that.
GOD DAMMIT LANDRY!! (Only people who have watched the Friday Night Lights series will get that).
Awesome episode. My roommate and I started out sitting normally next to each other on the couch for the train scene. 3 minutes into it, my roommate was pacing back and forth staring at the TV without blinking, I had built an impromptu fort out of couch cushions around me. Someone even yelled ".......come ON. HURRY THE F*CK UP!" at the TV.
And then after that incredibly tense scene, full relief. Smiles, high fives, etc. Then the world came crashing down and we remembered "oh yeah....this show is f*cked up...."
Yet another example of how well written a show can be. They didn't do anything extravagant, they heisted liquid out of a tanker, but I felt like OJ Simpson being read his verdict or something while it was happening.

I was reeeeeeeeeeally worried Jesse might die under that train when it started pulling away. Partly because of Aaron Paul's words that this was going to be a big episode and partly because of
Vince Gilligan's words that Walt would do something this season that made it impossible for the audience to root for him. Putting Jesse's life in danger so that he could squeeze the last few drops of methlymene out, and Jesse ultimately getting run over by a train because of it? You could definitely file that under "unforgivable." But that poor awesome kid dying just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time sucks almost as hard
In fact, I was kinda surprised Landry and Jesse weren't more pissed at Walter for endangering their lives so. I mean, seriously you guys.

Walt is such a greedy, evil mofo. I loved the scene in which he bugs Hank's office. Yeah, Jesse should have been more pissed about the situation with the train. There were quite a few things on the episode I felt were underplayed for the sake of story progression.

Totally expected something to go wrong like Jesse or Todd/Landry being injured or killed during the robbery. Thought Todd was going to get hurt bad or maybe die trying to get off. Then I expected the episode to just end with the wave.....but damn. So crazy. Can not wait to know what happens next. The worst news is this half is almost over and we'll have to wait like a year for the second half

I've only seen the first two seasons of FNL. My ex and I had started watching it together right before we broke up, got through a couple seasons, haven't picked it back up since. Enough to know that Landry is a stone cold badass.

The craziest part about it is the heat that'll now be on all three of them for Landry's actions. All the people they've killed before, they didn't have to worry TOO much about the ensuing investigation, but a kid shot in cold blood in the desert? That's gonna draw some SERIOUS attention from the authorities. They'll try to cover it up, I'm sure, but that kid's gotta have parents that will be wondering where the hell he is...

Holy sh*t dude, if you think Landry is a badass NOW (in terms of where you are in the show), you have to finish. He becomes a weird mix of Stefan Urkle, Rudy and (insert random hero who saved a damsel in distress). Finish the show dude, FINISH IT!
