Just checked out Sleepyhead on YouTube. What kind of live show do these guys bring to the table?
Their live show is pretty crazy, at least in a club. People dance and go nuts, and the band does the same on stage. I think the dancy atmosphere will translate very well to the Bonnaroo environment

Their new album is sort of underwhelming. The first 4 tracks are great with Little Secrets and Moth Wings being particularly good, but after that, it sort of drifts off. They will certainly be fun live though.
Nate, their drummer is also an AWESOME house DJ that goes by the name DJ Shuttle and does a lot of shows in the Boston area. I'd love to see him get a set at one of the DJ tents as well

I have the same problem with this band that do with a lot of electronic acts. I love the beats, but can't stand the vocals. I might check out part of their set since I'm not interested in Midnite and not super interested in the ZBB.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
Loved the EP, but the album is pretty underwhelming. Was going to check out the whole show, but now I'm going to do 40 minutes of Passion Pit and then go to Bonnapoo.
I'm surprised so many people are underwhelmed by the album. I think it's quite impressive and a lot of fun. Of course, if "underwhelming" means that all of the songs aren't upbeat bangers, that's perfectly fine with me because "Swimming In The Flood" and "Let Your Love Grow Tall" are two of my faves.
Easily one of the top ten artists I am excited about for Roo. Been following them since the EP came out and I enjoy the album. Let's dance Thursday night....

I, too, am surprised by all of the people in here who said they were underwhelmed. To each his own, but I think it is a very solid album. I haven't been obsessed with an album in months and I am all about putting this thing on repeat in the background for hours. It is really fantastic IMHO.
Also, Metacritic for this album is at 81, which by all standards is very good. And anything over an 80 from Pitchfork is considered outstanding so at least other reviewers seem to like it as well. www.metacritic.com/music/artists/passionpit/manners
Just can't wait to see them live now because they look like they bring the energy.
they only got such high ratings cause last fall every reviewer and their grandmother were hyping PP to holy hell, claiming they were for sure going to be the next big thing and now they don't want to look foolish.
Now that I think about it that prob explains why I find this album so underwhelming also.
The people who hype the bands that quickly are also just as thrilled to tear them down though. They get a kick out of having the power to give or take away. Backlash happens all the time, especially if there's anticipation that huge popularity is kicking in through MTV or something. See: Black Kids when their debut album was released; Vampire Weekend and MGMT after their debut albums were released.

yeah but with all the bands you named, they first dropped an EP that was hyped to holy hell, then dropped a debut album which all got glowing reviews and now after those albums have been around for lil while people start knocking them down. Also though bands like MGMT and Vampire weekend had albums that held up to the hype, in my opinion though passion pits album just doesnt, I find myself getting bored and skipping tracks when I listen to it, I'm still gonna go see them though because I do think the songs will be more exciting live.
Hmm, well, I'm certainly enjoying Manners a lot. It's in my top 5 albums of the year and I've listened to at least 60 or so. MGMT's Oracular Spectacular was like #35 for me in 2007 and Vampire Weekend was around #25 in 2008 when I had listened to over 150 albums each year, so it's holding up decently compared to both of those for me.
I don't know there are a ton of albums that have come out this year that are way better than PP imo, like Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself Timber Timbre - self titled Vetiver - Tight Knit Here We Go Magic - self titled Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion Vagrant Freaker - Black Crystal Willie Nelson - Willie and the Wheel The Whitest Boy Alive - Rules Kinny - Idle Forest Of Chit Chat Fever Ray - self titled Super Furry Animals - Dark Days/Light Years Yardwork - self titled Lindstrom and Prins Thomas - II The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca NEON INDIAN Think About Life - Family Blackbelt Andersen - self titled Osborne - Hovercrafting EP BLK JKS - Mystery EP

To be honest I haven't seen/heard too much MGMT/Vampire Weekend hating. Sure i've heard comments from people who've seen MGMT live and were disappointed (but even MGMT has admitted they sucked live and are working on it) but nothing crazy negative about these bands.
Actually.......following all the hype and Roo performances.....these bands kinda faded away for a while and I haven't heard much abotu them other then working on a new album.
I've listened to about half of those and I only like the Animal Collective more. Some of the others are solid and definitely better in some technical ways, but Passion Pit is easily my favorite of those and it's replay value is infinitely higher. My list tends to average a score for how much I love to listen to it and how well it is made and Passion Pit is off the charts on the first score. We just have a different opinion of it and that's perfectly cool. I hope you do catch some of the show and enjoy it!

If you go to Stereogum or a blog like that and just read the comments when either of the bands are mentioned, you'll notice a ton of hate, negativity, and backlash.
Some Vampire Weekend comments at Stereogum...
"I cant wait till this record comes out and sucks and then I never have to hear about them ever again, yeah!"
"It's funny how when Chris Cornell comes out with a record produced by Timbaland, everyone tears him a new asshole, and rightly so, it sucked hard, but when two guys from bands you like come out with an electropop album, everyone is talking "Another crappy indie band with zero originality!about how great it is. This music sucks. Just because the people making it have indie-cred, it doesn't make these songs any less cheesily produced smooth jams. How bout a little equal opportunity bashing based on the music and not just the people...This music sucks."
"Greattttt, more blippy faux-r&b for white kids to bump in their parent's cars"
"Another crappy indie band with zero originality!"
"They're not really into variety, are they?"
And proof that it happens often - "it's always funny when vampire weekend posts come out because stereogum turns into after-school day care." + "Here come the haterzzzz"
And MGMT...
"M = Money G = Grabbing M = Mongering T = Tools"
"MGMT,
YOU SUCK. YOU ARE NOT LEGIT. YOU KNOW IT. WE DO TOO. THINK ABOUT IT. GOOD LUCK."
"Don't call MGMT indie rockers. They are as corporate as they come."
MGMT definitely hasn't gone away. Being from a college town, I know that MGMT has become a bro favorite. If you pass by a frat house, you'll hear MGMT played right between Dave Matthews and OAR.

^^^^ I see your point danny. Yea there are negative comments and stuff.........but that happens ANYWHERE on the internet about EVERYONE. There's always positives and negatives.
And when I say they "went away" I didn't mean that people stopped listening to their music.......I meant that they haven't done anything newsworthy in quite a while so they "hype" or "buzz" about them has died down.
