man now that i think about it you're right. Three MCs and One DJ and Fight For Your Right are much better songs then Born to Run or Thunder Road. If any of you are sensing sarcasm it is because I am indeed being sarcastic.

But The Beasties are such great musicians and songwriters. Yes I am also being sarcastic.

Thanks for reminding me what to expect on this board.. I just hate Bruce..always have don't see what he has to bring to Roo? I been going every year since the start... even after last years horrible line-up I had hope..This year has an awesome line-up...all exept the main acts...

I really am curious about all this Bruce hate. I was really looking forward to seeing him at a place where everyone is supposed to be a "great lover of music." While I know this board is such a small portion of the Roo goers, it still really surprises me.
Is it that he is too commercial?
Is he just too old?
Is it that he represents a continuation of the festival's deviation from its "roots"?
That you just don't like straight forward rock and roll?
That he can't write great party rock songs, touching love songs, and everything in between?
That he isn't a great lyricist?
That he doesn't perform with more passion and energy than almost anyone that has ever graced the stage?
I really don't want to start a fight or anything, I know that the world would be a really boring place if everyone liked the same music. I just really want to know why there is such a lack of respect for him and all people can say is that "he sucks."
Well he is a great musican, and a well respected lyricist. He is not nearly as old as some previous headliners at Bonnaroo, and I love straight up and down rock and roll. Now I think he does not have nearly enough party material for Bonnaroo, when I see the Rock and Roll headliner I want high octane uplifting music, I do not want to fall asleep during a 15 minute Thunder Road. As far as performing better than almost anyone to grace a stage, that is pretty subjective but if the Superbowl was the best he has got, there are a lot of folks out there who do it better.
As far as the billing goes I think he should have top he is an older roc and roll God, and that deserves respect. However for a rock and roll god I am still pretty meh about him, I will go to the show, and hopefully my opinion will be changed. I think my mom is coming just to see Bruce, so I understand what a big draw he is. Though she will thoroughly enjoy the rest of her experience I am sure.

She is not certain, but thinking hard about it for sure she lives in TN so it is not to bad a drive for her. If she comes she has a friend who would take her to guest camping as well as in an RV so she would have it pretty plush. I hope she comes actually mom used to be a pretty big hippie back in the day.

And as tunnel vision rules the thread, let us try to remember the size of Bruce's catalog and the varied things that he might pull from for this particular audience. After all this is bonnaro right?

Ok this is the last time im gonna say dont worry about falling asleep during bruce's show. His performance is the last thing that should be under questioning.
Last year was my first roo and in 15 min. im about to buy VIP tickets for myself and my dad. He is the last person I'd ever imagine wanting to go to something like bonnaroo but it's happening all because of the Boss.
This post came across to me as pretentious and condescending. And yes Bruce can sell out Giants Stadium in 15 minutes TO PEOPLE FROM NY AND NJ not the whole U.S. and parts of Canada. You do realize that Bruce can put tix on sale in over 50 cities at once and sell out in 15 minutes right? Actually more cities. I suppose someone will chime in and say that's just because most of Bruce's fans have jobs.
This comment was even more pretentious. I suppose I haven't seen much live music...
Karma for you.
As for all the Max Weinberg comments, yeah I'm totally looking forward to Max. He's awesome, and we know his name. i have no idea who plays drums for Phish, and I'm a drummer. I bet most, if not all of us could name most if not all of the E. Street Band. That's where top billing goes.
And before you go ad tell me how condescending this post is realize that my karma is -1 most of the time. That means that I DON'T GIVE A CRAP! You're hippies. You're supposed to love me anyway. Just like Jesus. Who by the way, thinks that Phish sucks. He told me so last time I ate peyote. ;D
Phuck Phish. BRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!
Talk about calling someone pretentious! You sounded like a complete a$$hole. Sorry! But it's true. And you think most people know who all the members of the E Street Band are? haha I only know who Max is b/c I watch Jay Leno. I don't know anyone under 45 who is a big Bruce fan. Every time I tell someone the line up, they makes a comment about how horrible Bruce Springsteen is. Haha! And here I thought I was the only one who thought he sucked.
I'm not a big bruce fan or anything and I can name 5 members of his band because they're that popular (Bruce, Patti, Little Steven, Clarence, and Max).
Also it's not like Bruce makes shit music. He's one of the best musicians of his time. Any rock critic worth his salt would include him as one of the most 20 or so important musicians of the last 50 years.
Phish is a love 'em or hate 'em band. I can stand jamming, i doubt I'll really like their set. For Bruce though, he'll probably change my life.

I have never cared much for most "American Roots Type Rock and Roll ..I lump John Cougar, Aerosmith,Bruce Springsteen etc into this group.. I do however like Bruces new song the wrestler and also enjoy John Cougars newer stuff as well.. it doesnt matter that I don't like Bruce or Phish..Im just complaining because the farm is going to be so over crowded..

Im trying to get as much bad karma as I can from this thread...looks like its working...Like I give a rats ass anyway...I always had a great time at roo to these fucks showed up
I don't like Bruce Springstein because i think his music sucks. Is that a good enough reason?
HAHAHA That's my reason too. I just LOATHE all of his songs. Not saying he isn't extremely popular and likes by lots of people b/c he certainly is. But I personally don't like his voice or his crappy songs. If his show is Sunday night, I'll prob check it out, but if it's Fri or Sat night, I'll be taking a nap to rest up for late night.

Since your user name is Morello,I'm guessing you're a RATM/Morello fan? You've probably seen this, but there may be others here that haven't.
And,btw,if you enjoy the Nightwatchman personna of Morello, you may be surprised to know that it was inspired by Bruce's Devils and Dust tour. Morello and Bruce are good friends,in fact Tom was a guest DJ on E Street Radio a few months back, and had a lot of good stories to tell...
The Boss is headlining because he's the Boss. My guess is if you asked every musician at Bonnaroo, who should be headlining, over 90% would say Springsteen. Come on kids this is the biggest act to ever hit the Roo. Springsteen is an icon to the cross sections of our country. He's been going strong and at the top of his game since the mid 70's. There is a reason he's the boss, he's earned it. I'm totally psyched to see how he uses the energy at Bonnaroo, that is if the energy is there. If this hating BS keeps up and the kids give him a bad vibe, well then it your own damn fault. I for one will being grooving and have a grand ole time to Bruce Springsteen AKA "The Boss" and the "world shaking" E Street Band.

I see no problem at all with this. People were all upset (totally wrongfully) about Metallica last year yet they brought it big time did a kick ass set and IMO won over the crowd. Bruce will be awesome at 'roo and I look forward to seeing him after 20 years (I last saw him in '84 or '85). ...and just to be clear I am NOT a big fan at all jjust appreciate a bunch of his older stuff and feel he will be a good fit to 'roo
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
Good one Usty. Reason To Believe is one of my favorites. Interesting to hear it with a blues riff. Have you heard him do Born In The U.S.A. solo on acoustic slide guitar?
