umm i find the beastie boys comment particularly interesting....
"We (the band known as Beastie Boys) are like a three-headed dragon with hot molten metal spewing forth from every head. Ready yourselves. Stand fast. Saturn's second moon is on the rise. We approach you now from the Northeast at the speed of lightning. There will be no respite from our wrath."
that sets a little tingle inside of you doesn't it

It was a late night in the back end of February 2006, cold as a witch's tit out, when my friend messaged me over MSN. It was the first time I ever heard about Bonnaroo. Tom Petty was to my friend as Barack Obama is to America, and he was going to be performing at a music festival way down in the back waters of Tennessee. Basically, he was going no matter what, and as it turned out I was obliged to join him. Radiohead and My Morning Jacket were the ones that had me sold. Well that, and obviously Mr. Phil Lesh and friends. Anyways, I went, many shows were seen, many faces were melted, many memories were made, I discovered the purpose of life itself, yadayadayada 2007's line up rolls around. I'm not gonna lie, my initial reaction was bittersweet. This go around there was no MMJ, but Jacky White would make his first appearance on the farm, and seeing how I hold him in the same company as I hold Jimmy James and the boys, I knew I had to make my triumphant return. Once again, a merry time was had by all, but if the ghosts of the past have told us once, they've told us a thousand times.... nothing compares to your first. Mind you, The Flaming Lips did land a spaceship onstage, so I mean, there was that. When it came time for last year, I was once again a bit skeptical. Yes My Morning Jacket was back, but Metallica, at Bonnaroo, really? It's not that I didn't like them, but it just didn't feel.... right. I got over it though, being through two Roo's can really alter your perspective on a lot of things. And besides, headliners are just the cherry on top; everyone knows the undercard is where it's really at. In the end I'm glad I came around. If you were there, then you also witnessed the greatest concert in the history of music. I'm of course talking about MMJ's torrential onslaught on all that we knew..... or at least thought we knew. Any person walking away from that show would forever be different from the person they were when they were walking to it. Yes, I'm not lying, none of this is hyperbole, we actually witnessed God confirm his existence..... unless those were rain machines after all. Either way, if you've made it this far, if you've trudged through all that verbal diarrhea, what I was trying to get at is I've come to know and love Bonnaroo; and through Inforoo, I have come to be both intimate and interactive with it. Many a late night/early morning have been spent lurking these boards, constantly feeding both my nostalgia and withdrawal. Waiting for this night, specifically, more than any other. So it is with confidence when I say that, for me, this is by far the greatest line up I've seen for Bonnaroo..... and it doesn't even include MMJ. I will be glad to make 2009 the fourth time I visit the farm. I can't wait to bask in all it's glory with all you fine ladies and gentlemen that will be joining me. Somebody set my alarm for Saturday morning, I gots me some tickets to order!

I just can't help it, Bonnaroo brings it out of me!!! Much obliged for the karma though, I'll hit you back when I can. If you like the writing maybe take a gander over at me blog:
after being rather disappointed with roo last year, with the exception of two or three amazing shows (mainly gogol), i have not been looking forward to roo this year in the least. so we have been planning for sasquatch! instead. we've already booked our flight.
now i'm extremely disappointed in roo's lineup this time around. why do they do this to me? it was supposed to suck, so i could enjoy sasquatch!.
ughhhhhhh!! i hate to run the risk of just being a hater, especially as most seem thrilled. but damn i hope there are some serious additions. for me it completely unexciting aside from phish. i sure hope mule and moe are latenights because daytime mule or moe is pleasant and all but not worth the cash and hassle of roo for sure. and hopefully grace plays thursday night. but overall id say its a complete dissapointment. even with mule and moe. nuts they are gonna be at several festies all summer. i may seriously not go even though it is probably my best/only chance to see phish. quack it ill go see phish when they make themselves accessible in a reasonable way and not just at some sell out, played out, over priced roo show or over priced venues that you can only get into by paying 5 times what the originally over priced ticket cost from a scalper. damnit i was really excited about the possibility of returning to "ROO" but i dont think i can bring myself to do it. they still suck, its still new roo, phish is just the band that can make the most money this year. nothing has changed over there...... and i dont know whos running phish's nuts now days but they are running the risk of turning them into a commercialized joke, much like roo. i thought phish decided to use douches like live nation and superfly to streamline the process and make it easier for everyone. all they have done is make it easier to collect tons of cash. nothing is benefiting the phans at all. it seems like the police tour to me. and roo does whatever they think will make them the most money. last year sucked and this year they are having phish there because it will make money. not some full circle return to greatness like they claim. somehow when that circle journey started i dont remember seeing names like snoop, erykah badhu, the boss, NIN, and beastie boys on there. this isnt full circle, its just more of the same plus phish. hopefully phish make the money this summer and go back to a full tour and their own fests next year. and then maybe youll be able to get a ticket from someone besides a scalper. (although i think i like scalpers more then live nation and superfly) and you wont have to pay out the butt to go to the biggest pain in the ass hassle filled festie in the world to see phish and 3 other bands. i truly believe with this limited ass come back tour they should have sold tickets only in person at the venues. you want tickets get there 3 days early and wait. ya its a pain in the ass but atleast then its first come first serve. no computer problems, no professional scalpers buying them all up in seconds and raping us on them. no being forced to go to a fest like roo to see phish. i certainly feel as though i have been sold out by the manner in which phish is doing business and the quack nuts they are choosing to do it with.
words cannot even begin to express my disappointment!

LOL!!! You're funny dude! Only a couple good bands! HAR!
If I thought for a moment that you were serious, I would insult you mercilessly.
I wish I could go to Roo! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Ting Tings, Al Green, SANTOGOLD!, and The Decemberists are killing me right now! I'm hoping that me not going this year will be justified when the schedules are released. I bet several of my faves will conflict. I just really hope they don't add Franz Ferdinand. For the love of all things Roo, don't add Franz Ferdinand!
I would like to take this time to express my approval of this line-up. Phish! Bruce! NIN! Byrne! Snoop (I won't say I told ya so)! TMV! Gooood stuff....

If your bummed out about Beaties Boys, NiN, Snoop Erykah, and the Boss... and think moe. and govt. mule are exciting you really need to get your head checked. Its all well and good to have your own personal tastes but this really isn't a game of "I remember when Bonnaroo was...." Thats all bullhonkey Bonnaroo, and Phish for that matter, is a business. They operate using money, based on our economy. If you truly want to go see Phish you'll find a way, and complaining about a stellar Bonnaroo lineup isn't helping since Phish fests and roo are two different things.... You may not remember names like snoop etc when this "full circule journey" began. But I remember names like Jurrassic 5, Cypriss Hill, Joss Stone, James Brown who are comparable to Snoop, Beasties, Erykah, the Boss etc.... So much hasn't really changed except your attitude toward the festival.

i was disappointed in last years roo... not necessarily with the talent (with the exeption of Kanye.. anyone remember the riviting chant of Kanye sucks?) but with the camping aspects of the festival itself. We were on the complete outskirts of the festie since we got there super early (all of our friends who drove were newbies and wanted to get there at 4 a.m.), and the walkways they put together were quacking ridiculous.. seriously. I slipped and busted my @$$ quite a few times.
so this year if we go, I'm definitely going at a later time to try to secure a better spot.. unless i decide to volunteer
