I had never listened to their music before. It was entirely the way they conducted themselves on stage that made me feel that way. They seemed to be trying really hard to give off a certain image. None of their movements on stage seemed natural, it all seemed like they had thought long and hard about their moves and how they were going to pose.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society is a band that i think would be a good show at roo. Ive seen them in concert and they were amazing, they play with a lot of energy
Flogging Molly-Antiflag(or Justin Sane solo)-Leftover Crack-Dropkick Murphys etc etc etc. I would be so happy.
I just seen Anti-flag open up for RATM at the republican nat'l convention and I would hate to see them again
wait anti-flag and rage played the republican national convention? i guess i would just never put them as bands that would be pro republican or even pro government really.

It saddens and hurts me to see what some people consider punk rock. I digress, because it just starts arguments. That being said, try to avoid making suggestions of bands that haven't existed since the 19080's. Also, if a main member of the band is dead (like say Joe Strummer from The Clash - my favorite band) let's not say that they should play roo. I mean can you imagine the Minutement without D. Boone. Do you even think Watt would consider that?!?!?! OPIV hasn't been together in ages.
FWIW I saw Bad Brains a few months ago and they were quite underwhelming compared to what they once were. The NY Dolls should play roo. I'd day the same about the Stooges lest the death of their guitar player Ron Asheton. Effed up I completely expect to play.
Mick Jone's latest project Carbon Silicon jwould be a nice addition. Saw Joe twice. Never seen Mick.
I'd love to see any real ska band there. The English beat are currently touring. Not sure how active the Toasters are, but they were always great live. The Pilfers could show up I suppose.
Calm down. I was just talking music. Not saying those bands would play.
Punk-rock is quite possibly the most misused term in music. There are lots of bands that have punky aspects to them, but are still far from being punk bands. However, it's an topic I try not to bring up as it tends to cause some pretty stupid arguments.
The thing to remember is 95% of people that use the word Punk do not mean a band that follows the Punk lifestyle, they mean a band that plays a similar music style.
Punk the music genre and the punk lifestyle are two completely different things. There are plenty of Punk music bands that could and would play Roo.

See, I disagree. The reason why I love "punk" so much is because, to me, it's a broad umbrella that is synonymous with "freedom". Punk isn't about sounding "punk". It's about doing your own thing, and not giving a fuck if anyone thinks differently. That could mean DIY self-recording, or signing to a major label. It's whatever you make of it. There are alot of bands that no one would consider punk, but I feel possess it's essence and it's spirit.
I'd also like to second World/Inferno Friendship Society. They would be a great tent party a la Gogol Bordello. Here's a fantastic video of them playing the song "Only Anarchists Are Pretty" just to give you a taste of what they're all about:

Well, I think it would be tight if Bonnaroo picked up Against Me!, Flogging Molly, and the Pogues, because they were all set to play Langerado. I'd love to see Violent Femmes.
I don't know if Gogol would play 3 years in a row though...
I used to be a HUGE A-F fan as a kid... that was how I discovered AM! Saw them play a show in Cincy when neither band was well known. Not a fan of Anti-Flag or Rise Against's new material. And A-F definitely would not fit in at Roo.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

I would agree with this except that the misuse of the term punk has lead to an inordinate amount of bands that sound like nofx. Nofx is not a punk band. Nothing that overproduced is punk. This has lead to a complete disintegration of punk music in many aspects. I agree with your sentiment, but having spent so much of my life involved with punk and seeing what pseudo-punk bands did to the little bit that was left of the true punk scene, I have got to say that the term is completely misused. It's like calling Bon-Jovi a heavy metal band.

i have to respectfully disagree and say that nofx is a punk band no matter what influence they may have had to blur punk music they are still a punk band

most definitely. i don't know what else they would be... speaking of Fat Mike... Me First and the Gimme Gimmes?

Eh, you're stretching it there. I think you're getting sucked into the deadend argument that I used to have when I was younger. What is and isn't punk.
And have fun settling on that answer because whatever someone comes up with there is always going to be that dood who comes up and says 'that ain't punk.'

Punk influenced pop music.
NOFX is the perfect example of a band that tries to be punk, gets called punk by a lot of people, but are simply just a pop-rock band with some punk undertones.

because, by definition, PUNK is 'undefinable'... when you put it in ANY box it loses its punkiness

once you say something IS... PUNK..... it isn't
PUNK is... ~*under*~ ... all that
its like porn u know it when u know it
lol, I like that.
It's definitely next to impossible to actually define. Like you said, you know it when you know it. It just kinda hits you. The main thing to remember is you can't try to be punk. It just kinda happens, like puberty.

YES YES YES! A thousand times, YES! NOFX, Blink 182, Green Day, et cetera are not punk, they never were punk, and it is grating to my ears everytime I hear them referred to as punk. They are simply pop punk, that watered down, bubblegummy, commercial bullhonkey, complete with blunted corners so it's safe for the kiddies. Punk's not meant to sound clean and refined; it's meant to be stripped down and raw. One of the major driving forces behind the whole punk movement were the dissatisfaction at how tame commercial rock had become; well, congratu-quacking-lations, pop punk bands - you are the epitome of everything your predecessors stood against.
