Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Maybe all of this is real and they're adding a tween/kid/nostalgia stage this year - thus the Hanson, NKOTB, Jonas Brothers, Weird Al...I'm just sayin' is all.
I can't wait until 3 February!
No. I'm telling you now that those bands will not be at Roo.
If anyone I'd say Jonas but still...........they aren't going to go.....hopefully

I have to say I’m starting to be skeptical of this being the lineup. The numbers aren’t adding up.
If you take this list, subtract the ones that are likely jokes (Jonas Bros., etc.), add the additional names we know are confirmed (Erykah Badu, etc.), and the few other names we are fairly certain about because of Roo Clues (Deadmau5, etc.), you have a total of 60-65 names (depending on how liberal or conservative you want to be in your estimates). That’s pretty much a full initial announcement. The problem is that among that list, there are only 5 returning artists: David Byrne, Femi Kuti, The Mars Volta, Citizen Cope and Robert Earl Keen. We all know that 5 returning artists is just not believeable. But at the same time there really isn’t any more room on an initial announcement to add some more returning artists.
Therefore I am starting to think that we can’t trust this Myspace list. We can reasonably hope that some of the names are true, but not all of them.

it's been 7 years of Bonnaroo...eventually people are going to come back. it's totally possible. Think about all the time slots, granted this makes for a very very stacked lineup, but it's not an unheard of lineup. that is what makes it possible. it's not OVERLY far fetched. It doesn't have 12 headliners and 5 latenights. There is some alteration available after Kanye played at 5am after being boo'd for 4.5 hours and still there were a few hundred peolpe in the field to watch. there could be a late night on main stage. NIN? Beasties? one of them I would imagine. The Mars Volta or Beasties close main stage prior to the sat night headliner the other late nights and Phish late nights the other. Or MAYBE we are just getting phish for 1 night and then perhaps a superjam, maybe that rumor isn't true about headlining 2 nights.

bonnaroos lineup has to be epic and i think it will be to make up for kanye last year. its pretty funny that he's still up on their top friends on myspace. the roo lineup will def be better than coachellas...and NO WAY will we be seeing Jonas brothers! at least i hope not

Was this in response to my post? Because I don’t see how it addresses what I said. I’m not talking about the quality of the lineup, or how stacked it might be. I’m saying that there simply aren’t enough returning acts. And that’s not a complaint, that’s a fact. You’re right that after 7 Bonnaroos, they’ll have to have artists come back. So, where are they? That’s why I’m doubting this list now.

Alot of the artist that would be coming back would already have been on Bonnaroo's Myspace friends. The only people on this "new Myspace friends" (ones that wered added yesterday)list would be artist who hadn't played before or didn't have a myspace account last time they played. Also older bands like ABB don't have mypsace at all so they wouldn't show up on this list....
Mix in a few of those artists and the line-up pushes towards unbelievable (but not impossible).

I just feel the need to add that if this was an all or nothing deal, I would take them all no question about it. I would even buy a fucking shirt from each of the bands listed above just to secure a spot for that first group of bands added.
It's becoming really hard not to get prematurely excited.

yea, I think not only is it possible, it's plausable. Bonnaroo stir'd up some shit last year. if you agree with the over diversification or not, it created and generated some negative buzz that allowed for an overflow fest to draw a 40,000 crowd in the upper penninsula. Bonnaroo has to come with it, to show they got boulders, and they do. Top grossing music festival...in the world? They have the duckets, rock my face!

there are only 5 returning artists:
I didn't read your post correctly. I don't know why it matters if there are any returning artists? Even in the new light, I don't see this as a valid point or issue on the subject. They are required to have returning acts?
Post by steveternal on Jan 30, 2009 11:24:07 GMT -5
I see what you're saying. Of course you could say that they aren't required to have any artists that have played before, or to keep having midnight shows, or sell beer in Centeroo, or even have headliners. They aren't *required* to do anything that they've done in the past 7 years. But there's absolutely no reason to think they wouldn't do something that every attendee wants them to keep doing, like have good artists come back. And speaking of which, it would piss off a lot of people that have been clamoring for their favorite band to return.
roocounteur, I understand what you're saying about who they added to Myspace. But part of my point is that with about 65 artists total, that’s a full initial announcement. We can’t expect them to add more than *maybe* 5 names, if any at all, to the initial. Honestly, I believe the initial announcements of the last few years have floated around 60 names. That’s the basis of my thinking.
I’d like this list to be true, but it doesn’t jive.

having artists return while building a lineup doesn't really compare with setting a festival's atmosphere (however directly related) I'm not trying to argue, I'm just saying. 2 years ago everyone said "metallica will never play roo" "Kanye West will never play roo" 2 years ago it was customary for main stage to close after the headliner....last year what happened? I'm just saying. Just because there are only 5 returning acts IN THE INITAIL RUMORED lineup DOESN'T MEAN that it's unfeasable simply based on this. That is just my opinion, but getting great bands to play the farm that have never played before...seems to be just as much in the minds of the fans as having old favorites return. The Mars Volta, David Byrne, Femi Kuti, Robert Earl Keen, Citizen Cope. These are great bands to have return, who else needs to return? Claypool plays every year, he made a joke last year about having been to bonnaroo 13 times (because of his various acts each festival). There isn't some requirement for a certain % of acts being returning acts.

Steve, I think you're on the money, but how are you counting 65? Dirty Jerzee's Rumored/Confirmed list is more like 40-45, unless I'm missing some. I'm not counting the clue guesses.

I agree that it's a little far-fetched and I'm pretty sure there were some extra names thrown in there to throw us off. I'd like to think they wouldn't float out any of the bigger name acts if they weren't gonna be added. Bad taste IMO. But a fewer smaller names(not including Hanson, NKOTB) to throw us off is probably the case.
Post by steveternal on Jan 30, 2009 12:09:52 GMT -5
You know, I was looking back at my math and the lists I was culling from, and I realized that a few of the names I was counting in my 60-65 are also returning artists: Neko Case, Girl Talk, Toubab Krewe, The Lee Boys and Zac Brown Band. So that's 10 repeating acts total-- not too shabby. Plus, there are a couple more you could count as new twists on older acts, like Drive-By Truckers with Booker T., Jeff Austin & Brendon Bayliss, hell even Phish.
So maybe I'm off in my estimations. I'm still a little skeptical, but feeling better about it all.
I bet we get AT LEAST half of those MySpace friends. I just can't comprehend why they would decide to randomly one morning add the 2 almost 100% confirmed headliners as friends, and then just add a bunch of random bands that aren't going to play. And then DELETE them later once they found out we were watching. Those peeps will be there.
Does anyone really believe they made those deletions because they found out we were watching? I think that's a little naive. The entire thing was quite calculated. I'm not sure what to make of it, but we're talking about a top grossing festival. It's not like Bill and Ted are sitting around conjuring up harebrained schemes.

yea, I think they went to add to throw them up on the top friends on the 3rd, I doubt the person that runs the myspace really knew myspace had an option to veiw recently added friends right? An unfortunate oversite. then someone saw all the commentary on here, and they went, oh shit, and took it off and added hanson to make it all seem viable as a trick. they wouldn't get our hopes up like that on purpose and then shatter our dreams, like last year with zeppelin, it didn't work out very well for them.

Karma to you because the word harebrained makes sense to me now.... I always thought it was hair-brained. Doesn't make any sense

Well it's not like they haven't slipped up before. Remember when someone from this board found the '07 lineup early on the actual Bonnaroo site? I mean, they're only human. Plus, is there really any other explanation for why they would add a bunch of MySpace friends (that are highly rumored to play) and then delete them? I mean, are they that bored?

As I said yesterday, it was accidentally on purpose....
Yes, yes...I agree with the accidentally on purpose theory. And of course they're only human, but given past slip ups I'd assume they're using extra precautions at this point.

does anyone else think they did that to create a stir right when Coachella was supposed to be dropping their announcement? again, I don't think they would PURPOSFULLY put bands on a list to make us think they could be there only to say they weren't....right? like zeppelin last year, so many people got disappointed, they don't really want to do that again do they? negative press is press but it's not a good thing for a festival saturated market when Bonnaroo's ticket prices are the highest. The ticket price alone especially for VIP not including food this year being almost $1400 makes me think we are in for a hell of a lineup...gotta be right? I AM SO EXCITED I CAN'T FEEL MY FACE!
