I saw Danny Trejo at Bikini's Sports Bar on Sixth Street in Austin during the filming of Machete. I didn't realize he was as short as he is. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but as the crowd of photo and autograph seekers grew he left the table of friends he was watching the game with and exited the bar.

Yeah, that seems about right. He doesn't strike me as being really comfortable with his celebrity, but he definitely seems like he's extremely grateful for it.

He took several photos with patrons, but it got to the point where that's all he was doing and couldn't enjoy himself. Some guys were posing with their fist balled up next to his head or holding their hands over his head to show the height difference. He was gracious and friendly the while time. I always try to give celebs space when I see them out in public.
Best Actor is a lock. And I haven't seen one second of it.
I don't know. He'll definitely get nominated, but I think since he already has two Best Actor trophies under his belt, they'll probably give it to someone else this year. Awards are more politics and popularity than 'whoever actually gave the best performace of the year". If Joaquin's performance in The Master is as good as its hyped up to be, I think they'll give it to him if his colleagues/voters aren't still bitter about his I'm Still Here stunt.

The new Marley documentary is excellent. Great shots of the island and superb live performance footage. I also got a crash course in Jamaican history and politics. Always a plus.
finally got around to seeing bernie. obviously has some special meaning for us texas folk, but i really recommend it. i enjoyed the way it was shot and found it to be pretty funny.
for those who don't know the backstory (i think maybe fuzzy had posted about it before), bernie was a mortician in a small town in texas. EVERYONE loved him so much. he took up as a kind of companion for a nasty old widow in town. he ended up killing her, but no one wanted to convict him. all the bit characters in the town are hilarious.

I plan on seeing Killer Joe next week. A Texas murder story from director Willam Friedkin (Exorcist, French Connection, Bug) and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tracy Letts that's getting alot of buzz.
Not up to date on the newest releases but just watched Let the Right One In on netflix instant. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it. Amazing performances from the 2 child leads.

^^^Have completely shunned the american version, as the original swedish version was so amazing. Similarly shunned the american Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, even though I really love Daniel Craig. I mean, WHY even make an "american version" of a really stellar foreign film? If the original is quality, aren't american movie-makers simply justifying making non-subtitled films for lazy people who don't want to read subtitles by making an american "re-make"? Absurd.
But now that EAP has given the american Let the Right One In a thumbs up, maybe I'll give it a whirl.

I don't think it so much that they made American remakes that bothered me. It's that they made American remakes within two years of the originals coming out. The production quality was fine on both. Great acting. Great writing. Nothing that made it difficult for American audiences to connect. That being said, the American version of Let The Right One In is totally on my Netflix queue... well, it was. It may not be available on streaming right now.
Also, I will second EAP's opinion that the book of Let The Right One In is pretty great.
I wasnt thrilled with the American version. I thought it really killed off a lot of the book, way more than the Swedish version did. I mean, it's ok. It's not Near Dark (the greatest vampire movie ever made), but it's definitely better than like 80% of all vampire movies.
I saw Hope Springs this weekend. It was funny. Not deep, but I laughed more than I expected. Overall, I think you should tell your mom to see it with her friends.

So you saw an old lady movie? How did that happen?
P.S. Not being mean. I saw Fried Green Tomatos in theaters when I was young.
Was supposed to go see Bourne Legacy with my former roommate. When she realized Hope Springs was out she preferred to see that and I thought the previews looked fairly entertaining. It was. I'll go see Bourne this week.
As the youngest man in the theater, other than one with his mom, I was not the key demographic.

I haven't seen it but the reviews I have heard from friends use the words "decent" and "competent". Not the stuff of stellar reviews.

Ah, damn, I forgot it was Tracy Letts. I'm still bitter he won that damn Pulitzer over Christopher Shinn.
went and saw ruby sparks today. it is hard for me to think of the lead as romantic after his character in there will be blood, but i thought it was a cute little hipster love story. i wasn't thrilled with the ending but it had some points that really resonated with me.

Have you seen Little Miss Sunshine? Paul Dano is a pretty versatile actor. It's only a matter of time before he's uber famous.
I haven't seen a new movie in months... I did get around to seeing Bergman's "Virgin Spring", finally, this past weekend. Quite superbly done, I have to say... no other revenge flick holds a candle.
