I love DBT. Let me preface by saying that. For years I have followed this band and they never let me down. Till now. I liked the Betty LaVette record better than this (the one where the were the backing band). It just wasn't good. I know they ain't keeping score ... But ... Jason Isbell - 1 DBT - 0
The Black Kids ~ Partie Tramtic
Wow. I sort of liked the EP which is why I got excited to see them onthe inital line up for Bonnaroo. After listening to the record I'm kinda glad I didn't have to waste my time. Almost tie with The Virgins for the covoted 'Overhyped Band By Blogs That Just Don't Live Up To Expectations' award. They won simply because they had one good song.
Cold War Kids ~ Loyalty To Loyalty
Crap. I wanna like this record and I don't. Sad. I think they are in contention for the 'Sophomore Slump' award. Perhaps number 3 will fare better.
There are a few more. The Ravonettes ~ Lust Lust Lust Ryan Adams and the Cardinals ~ Cardinology Jenny Lewis ~ Acid Tounge
And again I wish that Ryan isn't on this list. I just know he can do better.
How about you. What were you disappointed in?

I have listened to alot of albums this year and the only one that I can say is the new Kayo Dot album. Then as I listened to all of their albums, I realized I only like their debut album.
The new ones by Annuals, Cold War Kids, and Islands were quite disappointing, IMO.
I really like the new Jenny Lewis though. At first I wasn't sure. It seemed kinda scatter shot. Now I can't listen to it without hearing it the whole way through.
I'll try it again I just wasn't so happy with the album as a whole. It seemed like a collection of songs and didn't gel as a cohesive album. I wanna like it but I just have a hard time with it.
Mellow Gold, Odelay, Mutations, Sea Changes, The Information, Midnight Vultures, One Foot, Guero (barely, however) were all better than Modern Guilt, IMO.

I was quite pleased with Modern Guilt. I have followed Beck just before he released Mellow Gold, which to me will always be his best. But yeah Modern Guilt was just a little different...I thought it rocked though...I enjoyed the sound of it, it's more like from the '60's-ish era. I could listen to Chemtrails all day. Whenever I listen to the cd I always have to keep repeating that song at least a few times.
And Lerxst, you should listen to his other stuff really. Modern Guilt isn't a good way to be introduced to him. But it is an enjoyable cd.
They're one of my favorite bands, but this one was just too uneven. There were some great songs on it, but it also had some of the weakest songs they've ever written (You Can Do Better Than Me, Pity and Fear). Overall, it just left me with a "meh" feeling. I know they can do better
I love LB's first proper full length, and had high expectations for this one, but I actually think he's kind of lost his way and gotten a little cliche since transitioning from the DJ/production thing to a band.
I love Man Man, too, but felt like they needed to branch out a little more or something. New album sounds to samey.
Neither album is terrible, I just was expecting better.

I thought the new Man Man was their best yet. One of my favorites of the year. Just shows you how people take in things differently
Yeah, I've got to agree on Evil Urges... where as, IMO, they've never been an album band (It Still Moves is a very good album, though, I must say) Evil Urges was their worst album, yet. Some good songs on it that are obviously way better in the live setting, but after the hype over this band and album, I was extremely underwhelmed with Evil Urges.
cold war kids loyalty to loyalty, DBT- brighter than creation, and kings of leon-only by the night.......loyalty to loyalty is nowhere near the level of robbers & cowards, dbt needs to get back to dbt pre-jason isbell because they def felt hit on missing/relying on him for some killer tracks, southern rock opera is one of the best........KOL at first i was pleased with the album but then realized they have abandoned much of their original sound...i still like them just saw them last month but i see which direction they are going, they want to sell out arenas and rock which is fine but they are definitely evolving, plus grammy nominations start to deter my interest in a band as of late

I'm not as big an MMJ fan as most here, but I was underwhelmed by Evil Urges as well. TMV Bedlam was imo the worst Mars Volta album yet. Not a horrible album, but disappointing coming from them. I prefer Omar's Old Money to it.

There were plenty of albums that were just OK (DCFC, TMV, Don Caballero), and quite a few debuts that I expected to like but didn't (Los Campesinos!, Ra Ra Riot, The Dodos) but really the only album that I truly expected to enjoy and was disappointed by was Squarepusher's Just a Souvenir. I know mothersky is digging it, but I just found it so bland, a 100% retread of his glory days but with a quarter of the inspiration.
Dishonorable mentions: Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. - Catnip Dynamite El Ten Eleven - These Promises Are Being Videotaped
^That's really the first album of his I've listened to, extensively... I've heard plenty of his other songs, but no full albums. I am going to check out the albums, as I really do like Just A Souvenir, just a fun album with some great stuff going on in it. I love the bass fills he throws in there...
I was disappointed with the Cold War Kids 2nd cd too. Even though I've Seen Enough is a badass song. Weezer is what I expected...lame. And I couldn't get into the new MMJ either. Hope 2009 brings some more good tunes.
I mean, I expected there to be a change in sound when Thompson left, but nothing as dramatic as this. Basically, they should change their names because they do not sound at all like they did before.
