So I have recently found out threw the military that I have been selected to go to Australia.. Which was news that made me quite excited, until I was told the dates. The trip is basically the first three weeks of June.
So, If I go I would have to miss Bonnaroo, which would be the hardest thing ever for me to do... So I figured that some fellow Bonnaroo lovers, enthusiasts who constantly think of the Roo and those four magical days year round, could give me some insight towards my predicament.

Damn man, That's a rough one! Outside of going AWOL, I don't know what to tell you. Just remember that you'll have many more chances to attend Bonnaroo in the coming years since they have purchased the property. And as you know, SuperFly & A.C. always try to out-do themselves every year so it will probably be worth the wait. I can't imagine having to miss Roo but, you got to do what you got to do. I hope that you can find a way to make it this year but, if not, we'll all be thinking of you.
Thanks for the thoughts... I should have explained it more clearly though, I am not required to go, but I have the opportunity to if I want to... So therein lies my predicament, go to Australia, for free, and experience the beauty, or go to Roo another beautiful land of peace, love and music? The two things I enjoy most in the world, music and traveling.. I'm torn

Bonnaroo is a wonderful experience! An old room-mate of mine couldn't stop talking about how beautiful Australia was! It's a rough choice but, I'd probably skip Roo if it were me. I know that's probably considered blasphemy here but, it's true. Like I said Bonnaroo is just going to keep getting better and better each year, so sitting-one-out won't be the end of the world or anything. And if your trip down-under is going to be free...that would seal the deal for me (I think). As I write, I keep doubting myself, so I think i'll leave it there. Whatever you decide, I hope it works for you.
I would base my decision on the lineup. If 'roo had some of my favorite artists that I don't think I would get a chance to see again, then I might stay and go to 'roo. Otherwise, I'd head down under!

iv wanted to go to Roo for 2 years but every year something comes up and i miss it... death in the family s why i didnt get to go last year... im looking foward for my first roo, but Australia is a TOTALLY different story.
is this a one CHANCE thing with Australia... will you have other oppurtinies at all? well it would be a hard choice but id go to Australia... Roo happens every year lets us know what you decide
which branch and what type orders? is there per diem involved? is there a chance you could go again? how much time would you actually be in australia? roo rocks, but australia is pretty darn cool too.... i'd wait until after they announce more artists before making a final decision....

I was certain that I was going to take a "karma beatdown" for being the first to say 'higgi' should go to Australia. I guess not, though. I'm relieved...and impressed!
Personally, I'd probably pick Australia for free too...The lineup would be the final decider I guess, but I've always wanted to go to Australia and 'roo will be around. Never thought I'd pick any place over Bonnaroo in June, but a free trip to Australia? I'd probably miss Bonnaroo.
You guys are the best, and to answer someones question, I am in the Marines and it would be a three week stay, most likely a humanitarian aid mission and next to no chance of going again... So its a very unique opportunity and a hella hard decision...
I'm not too impressed by the Police, so we will have to wait until the whole list is out...
