Yeah, was that just a first-time thing last year? I don't remember all those from '06...but I didn't wander around the main GA camping area as much then, either (I was back in Punani Galore). It was fun how everyone just started ripping them down, though.

The watchtower is really bugging me - feels big brotherish
I mean after all the little watchtowers last year, this isnt a big deal to me. I honestly dont think they're going to be using it to spy on us...if they wanted to do that they, could just invest the $$ in plain clothes security. Besides, even w/ binoculars the visibility from way up there to individuals on the ground isnt going to be very good.
I think it's much more likely that it's going to be a safety and organizational tool. The organizers probably be able to learn a lot about making things more aerodynamic by watching how/when the crowds move over the weekend. Plus a birds-eye view is certainly good for directing traffic, taking pics, and in case of say a fire or something...god forbid.

I saw no watchtowers last year... I might've seen something around Centeroo that might look like a watchtower but I think it was just an exhibit....
As mentioned above...all through G/A camping last year, next to each pod was a small, maybe 15 ft. tall watchtower. They werent always occupied, but more often than not there was a security guy at the top watching the crowds.

Wakarusa '06 and Roo have two totally different police situations. Waka is held at a state park where the police have jurisdiction to pretty much do whatever they want. Bonnaroo is almost totally on private property. Actual police are rarely seen on the farm itself. Even the mounted patrols are realy private security hired by Superfly/AC. You do commonly see the police on public roads all around including Bushy Branch road so remember not to do anything you do not want them to see while close to the roads.
I'd pay $5 to hike up the tower and take pictures. I can see it being as a big a draw as the ferris wheel.
This is what I was thinking. Big brother didn't even cross my mind, obviously I am not paranoid enough haha....but I was thinking this would be somthing like the ferris wheel, where they would charge people to go up there and snap some photos or something....I hope they aren't trying to replace the ferris wheel with this thing though...
