on friday, i went and saw the heartless b astards at a small bar in austin. as usual, they were amazing and they played a TON of new stuff. they mentioned they were going to tour for awhile, perfecting the new stuff. check them out if they come near you! (I think they are touring with the drive by truckers)

Just got back from Jeffrey Lewis/The Head and the Heart/DR. DOG at Terminal 5. met the dr. dog drummer (eric) and new multi-instrumentalist/percussionist dmitri who also does some of their art. they said they're crossing their fingers for a free summerstage show and that they're working on demos for a new album coming out next winter. Head and the Heart came out for the final song of the Dr. Dog encore (Jackie Wants a Black Eye). Incredible show.
Head and the heart are awesome and playing Sunday at Roo, according to Josiah. Stoked to get their music and see them again on the farm.
Jeffrey Lewis was "interesting," sang a song about killing himself in different ways, one about water and another about time, then did some history-based songs with basically powerpoint slideshows of original art about marco polo and the french revolution

I saw Sarah McLachlan the other night in Indy. A friend had an extra ticket and let me have it for free. She played two sets for close to 2.5 hours. She had a couple of singer songwriters with her. Both were great. She sounds exactly as she does on record. She answered questions. Great light show. Kind of cheesy sometimes when her subpar guitarists would come out to the front of the stage for pathetic solos but it was a good show for free. There's no way that I'd pay $70 for it though.

I'm going to see The Church tomorrow night in ATL... I'm a little pumped. i.e. when they play 'Reptile' (because they will) I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pee.

Okay wow. I generally research my shows better.... Somehow I missed that this was The Church playing in their entireties: Untitled #23, Priest=Aura, and Starfish. Fantastic playing. The stage show left something to be desired, but just hearing all those songs live was really really fulfilling. Ahhh - the 16 year old in me is soooo happy.

I saw John Prine and OCMS Friday night at the Fox, they were amazing. Both put on great sets and they jammed a bit at the end. The sound is great there and it was a really fun crowd. We're going to check out the Old 97's and Those Darlins tonight at Freebird Live, I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I saw Conspirator (Magner and Brownie from tDB, drummer from Lotus and Mike Marchetti (sp?)). They started off super dark but brought it back. One set that was close to 3 hours long. Fun times. LASERS

I saw Nicole Atkins with openers Cotton Jones this past Saturday. Cotton Jones absolutely killed it, their lead singer has such a powerful and controlled voice and their sound is amazing. Would love to see them back on the farm.
Nicole Atkins started strong but overall was quite average. Won't be seeing her come June
Saw Marc Broussard last night....dude gets down. Even though he was sick I cant put into words the stage presence and how obvious it is this man loves what he does
^ Soo jealous! I've been too broke to catch him when he was just here in the DC/Metro area! Been a fan fer some six years and I have yet to catch him live. Did you pick up his new album at the show?
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

I personally didnt but the group I was with did so Im sure Ill get a copy of it soon. The songs he played off the new album were awesome though
Saw Levon Helm's Ramble on the Road Friday night at Massey Hall in Toronto. Levon was sick and barely had any voice left but he looked so happy and talked a few times about how much he loves the city. Anyway, the show was incredible... the best parts for me were Byron Isaacs leading the band in a cover of Goin' to Acapulco and Amy and Levon singing a verse of I Shall Be Released together (had to pretend I 'had something in my eye' after that one).

Not a good show but more of a warning against going to this tour here...
Went to see Middle Brother/Deer Tick/Dawes last night at the Opera House in Toronto and it was terrible. I mean outside of one good rocking jam out that Dawes explored towards the end of their set and the tongue in cheek stylings of Johnny Corndog (a friend of the band) there was nothing of value in all three sets at all.
To Dawes' credit, their keyboard player wasn't allowed to cross the border and so they decided to mostly abandon a full band set in favor of letting the lead singer deliver some solo material. He was alright but I think they would have benefited from the full band set up.
Deer Tick was nearly intolerable. I had heard quite a bit of praise about them from people here on inforoo and a couple of people i the crowd pre show but they didn't bring anything. They were out of sync, sloppy, and didn't play anything that appealed to me at all. I had spent a few days listening to their stuff as well and was pumped for them going in but wow did they ever suck.
Middle Brother was just an extension of the crap that had preceded them. Actually they were ok just nothing special and nothing that could save a weak night of music.
Its too bad Vazquez didn't bring Delta Spirit along
Got to see Mike Gordon and his band last night at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville, Mike was nice enough to sign the setlist and even mark out the songs he didn't play.

Trentemoller at sxsw was pretty much the best electronic show I have ever seen, I give second place to Massive Attack. If you get the chance to see him on this tour, do it. I think he plays in asheville tonight. It is with a live band and pretty much as good as an electronic show get.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears last night at the Black Cat in DC. SUCH a fun show, even though the audio was off and I couldn't hear a lot of the lyrics. We were way up in the front and after shifts in the crowd, alieblue and I ended up right in front of the speakers. My ears are still ringing, but it was worth it.
Was supposed to go to Godspeed You Black Emperor in Athens on Tuesday, but had to drop out due to a couple of factors. However, I'm attending Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group tomorrow night in Asheville. It should be an interesting show.

Lotus tonight at Toads Place in New Haven, can't wait!!! Lotus last year at roo was top 5, and totally contributed to me being hungover for the first and only time at roo in 5 roo's.
I saw Twin Shadow, The Strokes, !!!, and Odd Future at sxsw. All of them exceeded expectations. Especially !!!. I'm seeing DEVO, The Residents, Primus, and The Melvins in the near future. Then BONNAROO! Don't mean to sound like a summers breeze about it. I'm just blown away by how this year is unfolding. It's shaping up to be my best year for musical experiences.

I'm just gonna bet that you had a fuckin' JAWSOME time! Wish I could've caught The Black Crowes (billed as Mr. Crows Garden when they reunited fer warm-up shows in 2005) at Toads Place! I have a great bootleg from that night...I think. Either way Lotus=FUCKIN' AWESOME!
