Just got back from seeing GBV in Chapel Hill. It was awesome. Those guys have soooooo much energy for their age. Robert Pollard, who yelled out, "I'm FIFTY-THREE FUCKING YEARS OLD" at one point, was literally doing kicks all night. They did three encores and the crowd loved every minute of it. So epic. These guys would DEMOLISH a tent at Bonnaroo.

If it weren't given away in your sig, I would've never known who the fuck GBV is

Oh...Sorry. To clarify, everybody, GBV=Guided By Voices. Crowd was chanting "GBV" a lot last night. Robert Pollard called Cat's Cradle "one of my favorite clubs in the whole fucking United States." And it seemed honest; thought that was pretty cool.

Oh, you're gonna love it, man. They play just about everything you would want them to play from that era and with energy to burn. And they have a neon sign behind them that goes on when they come on that says, fittingly, "THE CLUB IS OPEN."
Also, Mitch Mitchell went into a crazy speech toward the end of their regular set...the highlight was this (paraphrased): "When Bob told me the band was gettin back together, I asked him, 'What's in it for me?'...And then he told me "ALL THE PUSSY YOU CAN HANDLE" AND I WAS IN IT FOR THE SWEET CAROLINA PUSSY. SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO GIVE IT TO ME AFTER THE SHOW, COME FIND ME!!!"
It wasn't exactly that, but it was something close. Pretty funny.
Highly recommend the Circa Survive/dredg/Codeseven/As Tall As Lions tour! Caught the show this past Tuesday and dredg of course rocked my face off. Codeseven was pretty good too. Missed As Tall As Lions and left before Circa Survive though.

Dan, that was Animals as Leaders, friend, not As Tall As Lions. Very similar band names. You're talking about the Cat's Cradle show, right? I was there, too, and did catch Animals as Leaders and they were my faves of the bill. But, all four were good. Circa was just a little bit too much for me, but they were good.
I was talking to sang about it, and really what made the Circa show so awesome for me was just getting wrapped up in the whole energy of the show, the band combined with the crowd. I was only really familiar with Juturna so I didn't really know what was going on with the music except for those songs, but just how much energy they put out and the crowd returns was something really fun to be a part of.
Whoops, thanks fer the correction, karosko. I've been mixin' up those band names fer a few weeks now.
man i wish it were as tall as lions. that would have been the best show ever. animals as leaders are sick though. you should have stuck around for circa. i had told the guys, hey we can leave during circa if you guys want to. that would have been a big mistake, they put on a great show.

It was a fun show. Animals as leaders tore shit up. I just wish they played longer. Codeseven was ok and dredg was meh. As for circa survive... I've been unable to get into their recorded music, but the live show was awesome. As mentioned above the energy between the band and the crowd really made the show. And his stage presence is great.
I'm glad I went. Next up-MGMT tues and Phoenix wed. This is a crazy concert month.
On a side not, is addition to those 2, Massive Attack and thievery corporartion are playing tues also. I really wish, with all these great bands in town, they would have organized some kind of music festival. But I guess it doesn't work out like that

I aactually kind of agree. I'd really rather see massive attack. The decision is tough for me. But basically what made me decide is 1.) I had opportunity to buy MGMT tix for $10 and massive attack is like $50 2.) I have a bunch of friends all going to MGMT, Massive attack I'd have to go alone 3.) MGMT are playing the Fillmore which is about 3 blocks from my apartment, and that's just too awesome. For massive attack I'd have to drive to downtown miami and pay for parking, etc.
Why the fuck would Livenation (who owns both venues) book both these shows on the same night? Such a horrible conflict, and it's just bad business.

Live Nation is stupid.
Buuuuuuut... I bet only a quarter of the people at MGMT will have even heard of Massive Attack, and about a tenth will actually enjoy more than just "the theme song from House."
