Avett Brothers at House of Blues a couple of weeks ago, highest energy I've ever seen with this band. Bras being thrown on stage, stage diving, etc. Insane.
I was there for Fri and Sat. Absolutely awesome shows!
Saw the Pixies on the 9th at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte and it was epic. Will remember that one for a long time.
Also caught Michael Franti and Spearhead, excellent show. They didn't have an opening act so MF and a couple of members of the band came out and played 4 or 5 songs, acoustic. Then the DJ kicked in for a little while and then the show. Basically he opened for himself.
Thanks, good to know. I have front row at the Ryman and the man is in so much trouble. Because I WUV him.
How hard is it to crawl up on stage? I need to practice. Going to wait until the end of the show, so that when they evict me I won't miss anything.
With MF just dance a lot and he will probably invite you onstage himself.

So many amazing shows this fall (see my sig for proof). My problem is becoming how to afford them all. I'm skipping out on bassnecter fri in an attempt to save up for next month ($40 after fees is ridic)
I'll be seeing Phoenix at the filmore, which is a medium sized venue. Quite a bit bigger tham a House of Blues sized venue, but wayy smaller than most ampitheatres. Should be a really fun show. But it still ranks about 3rd (mmm maybe even 4th, its close) in my most anticipated shows next month. I think my priorities rank LCD>Flaming Lips>Phoenix=Bloody Beetroots>MGMT>Vampire Weekend. Judging by my current finances I'll probably going to need to skip out on VW, and possibly MGMT, although I hope not.
Saw Broken Social Scene last night, for the first time as BSS. I saw Kevin Drew Presents.... back when he was doing that. It was pretty damn cool. Gotta say I'm much more excited for PAVEMENT tonight though.
Oh well that's going to be a super fun show in that venue. Seated or Standing?
They're great live.
Standing. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to swing it both finances and guilt from spending too much time away from the kids. We're going to LEAF festival the week before and then I'm going to the opera on the 23rd. I just don't know if I can do it. But I've missed them at Roo twice so I'm really, really tempted.
Caught The Black Crowes last Friday in Raleigh, NC. Put on a damn fine show that leaves me with a lot of excitement ta catch them in Washington, DC in November! Catch 'em while you can on their "indefinite" hiatus tour.
Went to see Pavement last night. It was outstanding. Quite possibly the loudest show i've ever been to.
Here's the setlist
Silent Kid / Frontwards / Heckler Spray / In the Mouth a Desert / Perfume-V / Ell Ess Two / Grounded / Stereo / Shady Lane / Kennel District / Unfair / Starlings of the Slipstream / Cut Your Hair / The Hexx / Range Life / Shoot the Singer / She Believes / Gold Soundz / We Dance / Two States / Stop Breathin’ // Heaven is a Truck / Rattled by the Rush / Box Elder /// Date With IKEA / Conduit for Sale! / Here

I've seen Stars, Tallest Man on Earth, and Menomena in the last week. It was my second time seeing Stars. They were alright. Tallest Man on Earth was incredible. That guy has such an amazing stage presence. He blew me away. It was also my second time seeing Menomena. They were really f*cking good as usual. They're just fun all around. Versatile musicians, they be. The new songs are pretty great live.
After waitin' some 10 years or more I finally got ta see one of my all time favorite bands last night. BOOM BOOM SATELLITES! Totally worth the wait.
Catch 'em if you can 'cause I have no idea if/when they will make it back to the USA! 16.Oct - Asbury Park, NJ at The Wonder Bar 17.Oct - Philadelphia, PA at North Star Bar 19.Oct - Boston, MA at TT and the Bear 20.Oct - New York, NY at CMJ Backstage Bar 23.Oct - New York, NY at Best Buy Theatre 25.Oct - Los Angeles, CA at the Troubadour 27.Oct - San Francisco, CA at The Independent 30.Oct - Vancouver, CAN at 560 Club 31.Oct - Portland, OR at Peter's Room (Roseland)

Saw a few shows this past week...
Miike Snow with New Look. New Look, a new retro 80's sounding electro pop duo I have never heard of, opened up this show and were pretty decent. They had a late 80's soft rock/R&B sound, which doesn't sound appealing I know, and they pulled it off quite well. They were very tight and came off as charming. I would see them again. Miike Snow, who I had been excited for since the highway line/ wait caused me to miss them at Roo, were rough. Half of their set was great and half was as weak as anything I have ever seen. Their biggest problem was that such danceable music loses its magic when there is a break between songs, a more seamless set would have helped. It was also far too loud and gimmicky, and their sound mix was fairly brutal.
Gorillaz with N.E.R.D. NERD was ok, nothing surprising, the only downside is that they suffered from playing in such a large venue. You could hardly make out what they were saying and the music was trumped by the bass which felt like someone was punching me in the chest every other second. Gorillaz, who I expected to be a huge disappointment, were actually very good. At most points they were 20 members large on stage and on a couple of songs their group reached about 40 people. So, all of the aspects of their albums that you might not expect them to pull off live they did (strings, brass, eastern influenced music, numerous vocalists at once). Also, Albarn seemed very genuine and seemed to be having a hell of a time up on stage which always helps a band come off better for me. I also give top marks to the video presentations which were in the forefront but did not take away from the tunes as has been the issue for fans on previous tours. The only downside, they seemed to lean a little too heavy on Plastic Beach (which does make sense) which I don't really care for.
Mayer Hawthorne and the County. tremendous set once again from MH and his crew. If you saw him at Roo you know what I'm talking about. Not quite as good as his Roo set but there were a few interesting cover choices and the band member solos were each amazing. Not a huge fan of the corporate shout outs every other song but that's the biz I suppose. They really stepped it up on Green Eyed Love and The Ills. Soooo good, they would be welcomed back to the farm in my books any day.
Went to go see The Restoration last night at The House here in Columbia. Good as always, this was one of their best.
They opened for this band I'd never heard of, called Lost In The Trees.... oh my lord. There were allot of people in attendance whose musical opinions I respect, and the consensus was that this was the best band to have come to Columbia in a long while. I cannot do justice with words:

That Gorillaz show was all sorts of great, ten times better than Coach. Everything sounded fantastic, the visuals were outstanding, and they played a decently long set. I really couldn't ask for anything more.
Also, the interplay between Paul Simonon and Mick Jones on "Plastic Beach" the song was the best thing I've seen/heard all year.

I saw the Lips on Friday night and Vampire Weekend on Thursday, they were both great shows. I posted a little clip of Vampire Weekend from the Thursday show on their thread. Here is a Realize as the closer in St. Augustine.

I saw the flaming lips last night for the first time (Ok I saw part of their set at bonnaroo but I was too intoxicated and too far away I don't think it counts). It was Epic-ly awesomely Epic. Pretty much the epitome of Epic-ness. What an awesome show.

Quick side-note. Their opening act, Morning Teleportation really surprised me and pretty much blew me away. Solid group. I tried to buy a CD but they sold out.
edit: And I just found realized they are another band I managed to miss last year at bonnaroo
edit#2: Wanted to share these guys incase you haven't seen them or heard of them

I saw Richard Buckner a few weeks back. He was amazing. He basically played three beautiful mash-ups of his songs, each one lasting about 20 minutes. His voice is superb. Ben Kweller is next on the list, with a few smaller shows in between.
Just got home from seeing Animals As Leaders, Codeseven, dredg, and Circa Survive. Show of the year for me. Animals As Leaders blew me away and dredg (though it was way too short) did the same. Then Circa took my brain and blasted it straight threw my skull. I'm posting this with no brain left.

This show is rolling through town tomorrow. I really had no intention of going, but it seems all my friends are. And I keep hearing good things. So much hype surrounding this show... might need to check it out

great show. also great to meet you and your friends and jade and her friends. i definitely recommend anyone to go see this show. rarely do you see 4 bands this good tour together. sucks that the openers do not get to play longer but it was still a great time.
