Next, you gotta get past the whole "but he's so weird" thing that so many people seem to have about Prince. Yes, he's a little weird (I prefer the term "sexy" to weird, but whatever). But he's also a very talented musician and songwriter. Some of the most brilliant people in history are weird; just chalk it up to being part of their brilliance.
As to his music: For those of you who admittedly haven't listened to much Prince, this is your opportunity to be learned.
Personally, I would suggest "For You" and his title album "Prince" for starters. His earlier stuff is still "pop" but has more funk influence. His mid-80s albums are what most of you are probably familiar with (I personally enjoy "Purple Rain", the movie and album, but I can see where others may find it dated). His more recent albums also have more of funk/R&B influence; check out "Lotusflw3r/MPL Sound".
I have not been blessed to see Prince perform live. But those that have say his show is absolutely fantastic. He has great stage presence and a very talented band.
Now I'm going to rely on Inforoosters to help suggest other videos/albums/songs for our beginners. I'm a bit blinded by my unnatural love of Prince so I'm a bit biased in my reviews and suggestions.

I fully support this . I was lucky to see him in a smaller club when he was doing his residency in Las Vegas, and it is still my favorite concert that I have ever attended.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

He's playing a lot of shows in Belgium lately. $110 per show and aftershows can cost over $300. Aftershows are max 100 people so that's pretty awesome.
One of my friends got a guitar from him at a concert. He gave away 5 to random people in the audience.
Prince is in Montreal all weekend for the Jazz Fest playing late night sets at the Metropolis (2000 capacity). Tickets were 150$ but are now selling for 750$ a piece so as much as I would love to go I will not be attending barring a miracle.

So, I kind of hate to even ask this, but I'm genuinely curious.
First, though, I think Prince is undeniably one of the most talented musicians ever, and I personally love his music. Although it's what I think of as one of his least popular times, I'm oddly partial to "Seven" and "Diamonds and Pearls" era stuff. I think that may be a bit of a nostalgia thing. Also, I have to agree with Juggs' comment in some other thread that "Gett Off" is like the best song ever. Really, though, there's not much in his body of work that I dislike.
But, I tend to not listen to much of his music anymore because I have trouble getting past that whole "nobody can post my songs on youtube" thing. Like when he played "Creep" at Coachella and then made youtube take down all the copies of it while Radiohead insisted that it should stay up. I get the argument that if the music is good enough, it shouldn't matter what the artist is like. And I don't know anything about copyright law, but I'm sure that there are probably genuine arguments to be made. But to me, what seems to be his attitude on these things just rubs me the wrong way. I'm curious as to what you all think about that.
^Really, I don't give a Leno about that whole mess. Sure it's arguably a dickish thing to do, I believe I've gone into it from that. But... it's quacking Prince, you're likely to never see anyone like him ever again. The consummate pro and all around musician is all you really need to worry about.
If ANY living, relevant musician has a right to do things like that... it's quacking Prince.
NBF, I see where you're coming from. Though I believe he will relent on that "ban" soon enough. I think he allowed a recent TV performance to be put online, if I'm not mistaken.
I for one would love to see more videos of him... for personal reasons

Interesting, there is a tv performance on youtube right now. There are also quite a few non-live clips and I think a couple of live ones. I wonder if that's due to him backing off of it somewhat or if it's just that there's too much out there to stop it.
I guess the thing is I just don't really understand the motivation. Maybe I'm naive, but it seems like you'd want people sharing your music. And I can't imagine that someone is going to decide not to go see him live because they've already seen him on youtube.

This would be an incredible headliner but if they book him he should have the opportunity to play over 2 hours instead of being double stacked as they did this year for Fri/Sat
