There has been talk about Jack Johnson as the Sunday Headliner. He's not Jam. Supposedly, he was going to be the Sunday HL in 08. So, I would say Bonnaroo is not necessarily looking for Jam on Sunday, as much as something laid back. Jam acts just fit that mold the best.

Yeah Jack Johnson is definitely a more household name with mainstream appeal and it's not even close. I know this doesn't mean much but I find it is generally a decent way to gauge an artist's popularity amongst the younger to middle-age (Festival attendees) demographic, out of my 749 Facebook friends (Decent sample size with varying age/location), 19 of them "like" Arcade Fire, 32 for Kings of Leon and 67 for Jack Johnson. And honeslty I was surprised it wasn't more for Jack Johnson, it seemed like literally every single girl in my high school was in love with Jack Johnson as well as about 90% of the bros
Interestingly enough Kings of Leon has 9.7 million total Facebook "likes" compared to 4.7 milion for Jack and only 1.3 million for Arcade Fire.
Number of total listens/listeners on last.fm seems to be a good source for gauging popularity as well. I like these methods more than album sales as album sales can be dominated by pre-teens and bands that were popular before the primarily digital age.

I was going to say, if I had to list them in order of popularity: 1. JJ 2. KOL 3. AF
I was looking at album sales, didn't think about facebook likes, but in album sales it is not even close.

All I got out of this is that you need better friends.
I have a feeling they are going to be the "big" band this time around if they end up coming back, I would look for them on Friday or Saturday night.
You might be feeling ill.
I am just going I what I heard, basically they are going to Bonnaroo instead of a separate festival next year. So I would expect either two two set shows or one three hour ln and a two setter again. I do expect they will be first on the lineup and get the "Big" unopposed Sat night spot. Then either close Sunday or a possibly a Day time acoustic set.
It is still early and possibly this is all bullshit, but I have been hearing it pretty consistently.
I dunno, JJ hasn't released an album since 2010, right? Is he working on a new one?
I like JJ, I saw him in Central Park first weekend at college (always a special memory I will have), but I don't think he's a headliner at Bonnaroo right now. Pre-headliner, definitely. Maybe the 4th listed and closes out Sunday if there's a big double-headliner on Saturday. I just don't see him being a top 3 on a 2012 Bonnaroo lineup.
While I agree JJ is bigger than KOL or Arcade Fire, weren't both of them coming off of Grammy awards when they headlined? There was a lot of buzz around both bands, if memory serves. I'm pretty sure my Mom tried to come with me in 2010 because she really like KOL.
Also, was Bacon kidding about a Clapton > Macca back-to-back? I couldn't tell. My head would actually explode, not even kidding. I've finally seen Macca, who was great at Yankee Stadium, and Clapton is my last living legend that I will never forgive myself if I don't see live. This would also get my two best friends (who refuse to go to Roo) to come to the Farm.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

I don't know what this proves other than 9.7 million high school girls like KOL, 4.7 million sorority sluts like JJ, and 1.3 skinny jean wearers like AF.

The fact that JJ's last album was his worst selling one, and his lack of recent activity is why I put him as borderline headliner. The fact still remains though, that all of his albums, except for the last one, went platinum (1 double-platinum) and his last album went gold. He would be a huge draw.
I think KOL may have more buzz at this current time because Only By Night did so well, but I still believe there are more JJ fans out there than KOL ones.

Well i would say Jack Johnson's popularity has decreased if anything since 2008 and he wasn't a top 3 act on the lineup when it came out. If the Allman Brothers didn't cancel he would've been 4. I know Bonnaroo has obviously had bands move up the lineup to be headliners over the years but that's when their popularity increases.
