Swimming with Sharks (Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley are movie execs. The cover says it is "Hysterical" but it really is not much of a comedy. Good, but not a comedy.)
True Stories (Written by David Byrne and Stephen Tobolowsky; stars David Byrne and John Goodman, among others. In a mock interview on the David Byrne Live at Union Chapel DVD, he calls it "Like 60 Minutes on acid." It is highly inspired by tabloid stories.)
Run Ronnie Run! (From the folks that brought you Mr. Show (Bob Odenkirk and David Cross). It's basically a "Cops" satire. Just a warning: it isn't exactly what they intended when they set out to make the movie. It apparently got pretty bastardized in editing. Still, really funny; tons of cameos.)
Where's Marlow (It's sort of a mockumentary about a failing private investigator, played by Miguel Ferrer. Mos Def is really good in it.)
Jesus's Son (Billy Crudup is a fvckhead. I'm not even really sure what else to say about that one. It's just about him, trying to make it through life, really.)
Melvin Goes to Dinner (Just like the title says. It was directed by Bob Odenkirk.)
I was trying to go for some things that might be lesser known. I also love Saved!, I Heart Huckabees, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and pretty much anything by David Lynch or the Coen Brothers.

Boogie Nights and American Beauty, as has been mentioned If you haven't seen it, Gone With the Wind, and remember it was 1939, and EPIC! Fiddler on the Roof, makes you laugh and cry and think, I love that The Hills Have Eyes, one of the best remakes I've seen, so flippin' terrifying Rear Window, Hitchcock... duh anything by Christopher Guest and Friends I think Harry Potter movies are infinately entertaining really WATCH a classic Disney movie, ignore the singing mice and look at the background art watch Coal Miner's Daughter and try not to love Loretta Lynn, I dare ya for a sensational technicolor experience, The Greatest Show on Earth There's a little film, playing mostly on the coasts, Eagle vs Shark

Have you heard her most recent album produced by Jack White ? It's a couple of years old. But if ya like her style and some White Stripes, you are in for a real treat.
And have any of you Eternal Sunshine fans seen The Science of Sleep? I bought it a few days ago but haven't had time to sit down and watch it.
It was okay. It was visually interesting to watch. To be honest, I found the story a bit hard to follow in parts. All in all, I wasn't overly impressed, but I would possibly watch it again sometime if there was nothing on.
Have you seen the Michel Gondry Director's Collection DVD?

^How could I forget V for Vendetta? God, this movie is realllyyyy good! I went out and bought the V mask after I watched it. Secretary is good, too.
Some more: Children of Men 2 Days (Paul Rudd) In the Name of the Father (Daniel Day Lewis) Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny (my arse fell off watching this movie) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (if you haven't watched this, go get it now)
SLACKER by Richard Linklater(I think). One of his first movies. Innovative. Highly applicable and quoteable from the late eighties or very early nineties.
I haven't seen The Pick of Destiny but we have in our household a well-worn copy of Tenacious D - The Complete Masterworks. Great thing to show to your friend's new high-maintenance girlfriend.
I thought Pick of Destiny failed largely to live up to it's potential. JB might be stuck in an elementary school mode ala School of Rock and Nacho Libre.

Really? That's too bad. I thought this was one helluva funny movie. The forest scene...c'mon!!! That was classic.
Once is a delightful movie starring Glen Hansard of The Frames (he was also in The Commitments) and Marketa Irglova, a 17 year old Czech actress with a goergoeus voice.
Basically "The Guy" busks on the streets of Dublin and "The Girl" encourages him to work more on his own music, while she is a talented pianist, with no piano. Turns out they both have issues they're dealing with and they decide to get enough money together to record a demo as they develop the music together.
Very intimately made, georgeous music and an uplifting plot. Ignore the R rating, that's just for a few cuss words, no more.
Not in mainstream theters, you may have to find an Indie house or pick up the DVD.

some of my favorites (some already mentioned): amelie a very long engagement (although not as good as amelie) leaving las vegas eternal sunshine of the spotless mind everything is illuminated (if you like eternal sunshine) the crucible (daniel day lewis is incredible and also incredibly sexy even filthy/sweaty/brown teeth) dancer in the dark days of being wild/in the mood for love/2046 (wong kar wai trilogy, if you don't mind subtitles - ITMFL is visually stunning and is the best of the 3 IMO) lost in translation memento a requiem for a dream the patriot (mel gibson, not steven seagal) punch drunk love run lola run (more subtitles - don't watch the dubbed version - it does NOT have the same effect) junebug kung fu hustle (and more subtitles) little children thumbsucker jude (based on the book jude the obscure by thomas hardy - good luck if you can find a region 1 dvd)
i watch a TON of old b/w movies too, including silents, but most people i know don't care for older films.
We just watched American Beauty again. It's so good!
Also, remembered The Big Kahuna (great if you like Kevin Spacey; Danny Devito and Peter Facinelli are also really good in it; Peter Facinelli is so good in it that I truly despise him) and any Christopher Guest movie (except Attack of the 50 Foot Woman; Best In Show is probably my favorite)

No can't say that I have.
It's got a bunch of the videos that he has directed, and a couple of short films (including one starring Jim Carrey). I think there is some of his artwork in the booklet too (I'm not home right now to check, though, so I may be confusing it with one of the other Director's Collection DVDs). It has several Bjork and White Stripes videos, among several others. The Kylie Minogue video for Come Into My World is pretty cool.
