it is rather amazing how much sense we can make just using 3 words at a time. It's easy to forget.
on a side note... I work with a middle eastern who has a very very thick accent. So much, as to where I seriously can only pick up 2 or 3 words out of an entire sentence. I always feel bad when I just look at him with a blank stare on my face whenever he tries to tell me something. Any ideas how to fix this problem without being offensive? I hate having to constantly ask him to repeat what he says
^^^I have no clue at all how to fix your problem without being offensive - I wish you lots of luck tho - I - unfortunately- have quit going to church at my church partially because of a similar problem. When the pastor is out of town - he normally will ask on of the people from India to speak - I can't understand the one or two that he always picks - so I don't go

Yeah, that's the problem indigo... I talk to this guy every day of the work week, and have done so the entire summer and I just can't get used to his accent like I normally can... It's strange how I picked up on the spanish language while in Barcelona a year ago faster than I can this man trying to speak english. rather unfortunate, cause he's a nice guy and I'm sure he's got good things to say

On a kinda related note:
I used to work with a guy who stuttered far worse than I even thought was possible. He would try so hard to pronounce (most) words that he would turn bright red. It looked very painful. He was a really nice guy but, he was so hard to have a conversation with. Half of the time, I found myself wanting to complete his sentences for him or wanting to guess (out loud) what he was trying to say. Other times, It would take so long for him to finish a sentence (or god forbid, an entire story) that I would have no clue what he was talking about by the the time he finished. Either way, I was usually so worried about how flushed and out of breath he was that I ended up seeming quite distracted and even uninterested. You could see the disappointment and frustration in his eyes. While I did really like him, I found myslef trying to avoid him sometimes. I felt like an ass but, I didn't know what else to do.

I understand - I encountered a similar situation recetnly in a training seminar - the guy speaking is great and in a one-on-one situation - he does not stutter - but to watch him present to en entire group and have to force the words to come out was painful to watch
It's a scene from the Simpson's movie coming out next week...Homer is holding a pig on the ceiling making pig hoof marks and is singing that while holding him up.
