I think that Roxanne may be a little tough for an older voice, with the high notes and big range, not that they will never bust it out, but probably not for live debut IMHO. I am going to guess "Message in a Bottle".
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

Wow. They dedicated a whole paragraph in honor of the Grateful Dead. Lame. And too late.
The performances this year have been solid overall. Gnarls Barkley is simultaneously turning in a solid Jon Brion meets Ennio Morricone performance and underlining the reason I don't want to see them play Bonnaroo. They're a 40 minute set act whose songs are played out.

agreed it was lame, but it was something more than nothing, which is what it has been for years.
i also second that gnarls comment, i could really do without them.
Dudezer have you seen Gnarls live at all? Because they tore the roof off when I saw them. It was in their home town infront of their friends and family but still they nonstop rocked it. and it lasted for a few hours.
And while I missed most of the Grammys I did catch Christina Agulerria doing the James Brown thing. Man I feel bad for you if you turned it off. She can f*cking sing! I was shocked. Its incredible how much sound can come out of that girls little frame.

Regarding Gnarls, I don't dislike them. I just think they're a one trick pony. They played a couple shows in Austin, and I never really heard anything amazing about them from people who weren't obsessed. I'm not obsessed therefore watching guys dress up in funny costumes doesn't do it for me. Especially given Cee-Lo's propensity for standing still while singing (also doesn't do it for me).
Regarding Aguilera, context is everything. She has nothing to do with James Brown or soul music in the 70s. And yes, she has a great voice, but I prefer someone who can actually interpret a song and not just see how many octaves they can hit. Aguilera singing it the way she did totally deflates the song and what makes it compelling for me.

^^The song's an ode to women from a man's perspective. It completely changes the meaning when an avowed feminist comes up and sings it because the lyrics are sort of sexist and dated in nature to begin with. Beyond that, have you heard James Brown's version? It ain't pretty. It's soul, something that I think X-tina would be more capable of if she kept it simple.
It's also sort of the difference between the Otis Redding version of Respect and the Aretha Franklin one, only not as successfully translateable.

I thought the sexist nature of the song made it more significant that someone like her who has in a way broke ground for women sexually(much like Madonna did).
Being honest, I really didn't understand 90% of what she said in that song. I just heard a lot of random yelps and like you said her trying to hit octaves for no reason. She does have a great voice, but for me she could do better with it.
