This week in Federal Way schools, it got a lot more inconvenient to show one of the top-grossing documentaries in U.S. history, the global-warming alert "An Inconvenient Truth."
After a parent who supports the teaching of creationism and opposes sex education complained about the film, the Federal Way School Board on Tuesday placed what it labeled a moratorium on showing the film. The movie consists largely of a computer presentation by former Vice President Al Gore recounting scientists' findings.
"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."
holy sh.it. these people are so damn scary. on cnn they had some "religous expert' on to talk about how global warming is not cause by science. but that the bible has been saying that global warming is coming for centuries. gores movie is full of nothing but facts. and is required viewing for students in many schools around the world. its scientific fact. these people should pull their kids out of public schools and send them to bible school. quit interfering with those who want to learn about reality. let the kids learn the science and then see if they still buy the magic guy in the sky theory.

Agreed, those people are a pretty dangerous bunch to the overall state of our nation. I can understand if you want to say that there arent a known answer to some things, and the answers god, but its a little crazy to be disregarding cold hard facts.

I went to a Christian school my whole life, and was taught creationism and all that jazz. It's fine if people want their kids to believe that there's a creator, but denying global warming is another thing. In the Bible is says that we(humans) are to be good stewards of this planet. In other words, we're supposed to take good care of it. It seems like if they believe that God created this planet, maybe they would want to do everything they could to take care of this gift we've been given. I dunno, that seems to make sense to me. I think they see that as an inconvenient truth though.
What we need to stop global warming is more pirates. As a Pastafarian, I recognize the fact that global temperature has increased as the number of pirates has decreased. So in order to stop global warming, we need more pirates. I have made sacrifices, I am a pirate on weekends. Hey there's a roo idea! Dress like pirates to stop global warming!

Seriously though, I went to a Catholic school and I learned evolution in my SCIENCE class. In my RELIGION class we learned about creationism. We also learned that you don't have to take the Bible literally to get into heaven. I don't understand why it is so difficult for people to reconcile the two ideas.

Check out the link I included with my post. This guy wrote a letter to the Kansas School Board after they decided to teach Creationism alongside Evolution in public schools. In his letter, he reminded them that Creationism is not the only theory of Intelligent Design. He then described how the Flying Spaghetti Monster created all that we see, including a tree, a mountain, and a midget.
He also proposed the global warming theory about the pirates that I posted earlier. Fun stuff. Also research the Invisible Pink Unicorn.

That's the great thing about the bible in general. It's so vague and over-translated that anyone who tries hard enough can find "relevant" prophecy in it's pages. For MANY years, religous fanatics have been pointing to hurricanes, famine and war (in the mid-east, primarily) as proof that the biblical "end" is near. All of these things have been happening regularly for thousands (and more) of years and we don't seem any closer to the always imminent rapture that we were in the beginning. War, famine, disease and natural disasters are just part of life... Not proof of an after-life or master plan! It's not pretty, but that's just how it is. I personally believe that these morbid, bible-thumping fear-mongers are just upset that someone is finally "hijacking" the core of their scare-tactics in an attempt to educate and inform humans...not just to scare them into submission. Essentialy, both sides are arguing the same point: Things are bad and getting worse! The only differance is that Gore is using it as a warning, a way to remind us that there is still hope, that our fate is not "written in stone". Sadly, the other side... The side that is supposed to fill our hearts and lives with infinite wisdom, eternal love and hope is just telling us that it's out of our hands, that it's uncontrollable, that it's over...There is nothing that can or should be done to change our fate. If you ask me, that's more distubing and immoral than anything Al has to say.
