To me, it's futile. I've truly seen more leeway on political MAINSTREAM forums. I'm not gonna take time to lay out pages worth of argument/opinion/ideology to have it jacked by someone who doesn't agree, and then locked to spank everyone who took time to post. Try as we may to have an open forum, some of those that have become the inforoo gods(but not all) because they often write as much or more than they read, can cut it off with the click of their mouse instead of scrolling elswhere. The inmates have taken over the asylum. And the nurses are running scared. Good luck with that karma. Just don't question the old boy network and it'll be up in no time. Til some weak-minded powerless peon decides he can give you flack-BEHIND CLOSED DOORS where noone can challenge his/her take on you.
It won't be long 'til you are reminded who holds the whip for having started a thread like this.

Ive been to all 5 roos and have been reading here for 3 or 4 years i would guess. I only post when I have time, but mostly where i have something to add. Thus my only posts being in this thread and one to let Napdred know about Athens, OH. Otherwise I read it all. But because of his ego, aquarium thinks i have only been around for 2 weeks and don't know about dude's history as apparent in his last post to me in the wars thread. dmb wants to redefine censorship for the sake of his own comfort. LIguy supercedes the rules and warns the thread's starter and doesn't spank the real instigator. And it feels like the logic i have taken the time to lay out about the rules and oversensitivity is being held personally against me. So be it. If you don't wanna hear it from me logically, then an organizational manual like Robert's Rules of Order would probably tell them that you don't lay out a public set of rules and then make up your own as you go. That'll only lead to clique-like organization, where mods don't control rules, impartially, but rather content with partiality. Good Luck.

UN says over 34,000 Iraqi civilians killed in 2006

The United Nations said more than 34,000 Iraqi civilians were killed in violence last year, although the number decreased slightly in the last two months compared to September and October.
The U.N. human rights chief in Iraq, Gianni Magazzeni, told a news conference on Tuesday that 34,452 civilians were killed and more than 36,000 wounded in 2006.
He accused the government of failing to provide security and blamed some of the violence on militias colluding with or working inside the police and army.
The figures are much higher than any statistics issued by Iraqi government officials. The government itself branded the United Nations' last two-monthly report in November grossly exaggerated and banned Iraqi officials from releasing data.
No comparable data for 2005 were immediately available but Iraqi and U.N. officials, along with evidence collected by reporters, indicate that sectarian bloodshed has risen dramatically in the past year, especially in Baghdad.
"During 2006, 34,452 civilians have been violently killed," Magazzeni said. "The focus of this report is actually on the need for the government to increase its action with respect to the rule of law.
"Law enforcement agencies do not provide effective protection to the population of Iraq," he said, adding that "militias act in collusion with or have infiltrated" the security forces.
According the latest U.N. report, based on data from hospitals compiled by the Health Ministry and from the Baghdad morgue, 6,376 civilians were killed in November and December, Magazzeni said.
That was a rate of 105 killed across Iraq every day, compared to 120 a day in September and October when 7,054 civilians were killed in a comparable 61-day period.
Of 4,731 people killed in Baghdad in November and December, most died of gunshot wounds, he said -- a factor that would indicate they were victims of death squad killings rather than the car bombings that are also a feature of the Iraqi capital.
An official at the Baghdad morgue, breaking the government ban on giving out statistics, told Reuters this week that the morgue took in some 16,000 bodies last year, 80-85 percent of them victims of violence.
Interior Ministry officials said this month that more than 12,000 civilians were killed in "terrorist" acts. They did not give statistics for other types of violent death.
The Washington Post quoted a Health Ministry official last week as saying that more than 23,000 civilians and police were killed in 2006.
Removing the police element of that figure and adding the violent deaths recorded by the Baghdad morgue would result in a number similar to that given by the U.N.

KUWAIT CITY: Washington will launch a military strike on Iran before April 2007, say sources. The attack will be launched from the sea and Patriot missiles will guard all oil-producing countries in the region, they add. Recent statements emanating from the United States indicate the Bush administration’s new strategy for Iraq doesn’t include any proposal to make a compromise or negotiate with Syria or Iran. A reliable source said President Bush recently held a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice and other assistants in the White House where they discussed the plan to attack Iran in minute detail.
According to the source, Vice President Dick Cheney highlighted the threat posed by Iran to not only Saudi Arabia but the whole region. “Tehran is not playing politics. Iranian leaders are using their country’s religious influence to support the aggressive regime’s ambition to expand,” the source quoted Dick Cheney as saying. Indicating participants of the meeting agreed to impose restrictions on the ambitions of Iranian regime before April 2007 without exposing other countries in the region to any danger, the source said “they have chosen April as British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it will be the last month in office for him. The United States has to take action against Iran and Syria before April 2007.”
Claiming the attack will be launched from the sea and not from any country in the region, he said “the US and its allies will target the oil installations and nuclear facilities of Iran ensuring there is no environmental catastrophe or after effects.” “Already the US has started sending its warships to the Gulf and the build-up will continue until Washington has the required number by the end of this month,” the source said. “US forces in Iraq and other countries in the region will be protected against any Iranian missile attack by an advanced Patriot missile system.”
He went on to say “although US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice suggested postponing the attack, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney insisted on attacking Tehran without any negotiations based on the lesson they learned in Iraq recently.”
The Bush administration believes that attacking Iran will create a new power balance in the region, calming down the situation in Iraq and paving the way for their democratic project, which have to be suspended due to the interference of Tehran and Damascus in Iraq, according to the source.

at this rate bush will kill more iraqis then saddam did in no time. its only gonna take bush a few years to do what took saddam 23 years. and now its looking more and more like iran and syria are next.
i heard a show on npr about 5 years ago where this political analyst was talking about the bush administrations plans to go into iraq and use it as a jumping point for Iran then so on, they have been planning on going to Iran since before they even went to Iraq.............o yeah, and thingy cheney it seems already instructed the pentagon to draw up plans to nuke iran immediately after the next "terror" attack, check it, o and notice we don't even have to be able to link iran to the attack according to the plan
