And let's not always concern ourselves with Pitchfork- often their self-fellating gets in the way of actual taste. They've had several recent reviews where clearly they did the bare minimum of listening and research in order to take as severe a cynical dump on albums as possible. Often you can trust them, but they are less and less consistent. Esp. now that they have their own fest.
i agree with you. Pitchfork is not always the most reliable source anyway. I'm not supporting them necessarily, i just mentioned they don't give roo too much cred for their performers.
Hating on Pitchfork is popular these days, but no site has done more for indie music than they have. Instead of hating on their opinions, maybe you guys should appreciate the exposure they give local scenes, obscure genres and the way they school young kids in the ABC's of music. I'd much rather have to deal with young know-it-alls versed in music by Pitchfork than young know-it-alls versed in music by Spin.
yeah thats not nearly as good as I was expecting the initial announcement to be. Aside from the headliners, explosions in the sky and a few other groups (most of which we're getting at Bonnaroo), I'm not impressed.
The only two I am jealous of is Mark Ronson & The National... Got to roo too late Thursday last year.
But I do only live 45 min. away from Chicago . . . Maybe a one day pass...
And when I went to The octypus project's myspace their line next to their pic says "Roo !" I think they are asking to be added... I would like to see them.
I really think some of you people are in denial or something. I'm not gonna compare Roo's lineup to Lolla's lineup and say that one is better or more diverse than the other. Who cares? But seriously Rage and Radiohead on the same bill?!?! That's all I need to know. Add NIN, Wilco, Raconteurs, The National, Explosions in the Sky, Cat Power, Malkmus, Blues Traveler, Dr. Dog, Black Keys, BSS, Mates of State, Amadou & Mariam, John Butler Trio, Battles and so on, how can you not like it? I mean sure there's alot of bands that Roo has this year and has had in the past, but I mean, it's a farkin great lineup. In the words of GOB................
It's a matter of preference, that's all. Sasquatch is offering the lineup that most appeals to me this year (though I'll be at other festivals, too). And I think Mates of States is beyond awful. I still can't believe they get booked.

I hear ya. I like the Sasquatch lineup alot. I like the Outside Lands festival lineup alot. I just can't afford to go across the country and do either one. Lolla works for me this year. Roo does not. There are good things and bad things about each and every one of these fests lineups, Roo included.

I think my reaction has to do with my surprise to how underwhelmed I am by the lineup overall given how amazing it looked when the headliners were leaked. It's like when somebody gives you steak sides with your steak dinner that you eat after having your steak salad while sipping on your steak cocktail and then finishing it off with steak ice cream. It's a whole lot of steak. It might be really good steak, but how much steak can one man eat?
Mmmm, steak. I'm still debating on eating steak until I puke at Lolla or peppering my festival experience this summer with steak, potatoes, and some other delicious food at Roo. It's gonna be a bit of a decision.

who are you talking to? i don't think anyone here is 'hating on pitchfork.' as i mentioned, i don't have a problem with them and i scope out their news almost daily. we were just discussing how they tend to make buddy-buddy with certain bands and tend to take a dump on an album when it appears they didn't even give it a fair listen.
I agree with others that other than the headliners and a few others, I'm not blown away.
I think Bonnaroo has the more superior lineup from top to bottom. I'm going to Lollapalooza as well, but I'm only majorly excited about Rage, Explosions in the Sky, and ... thats about it. The others I've either seen before or will most likely see at Bonnaroo this year.
Last year was my first Bonnaroo and I loved it! But i'm sorry to say I kinda wished I would have waited on purchasing the bonnaroo ticket. Lollapalooza's lineup just starts out awesome for me. RADIOHEAD, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE AND NIN!!!!!! I've never seen Radiohead or RATM but NIN was probably my fav show ever.

headliners are better but I think second tier got blown out of the water. I didn't get to see Girltalk last year and Explosions in the sky would be sick. Gnarls is amazing live. But Bonnaroo beats it.
