These guys are badass and was checking their dates to see if they were open for roo (or coming near TN at all), and they already have Bonnaroo listed for June 15 on their myspace. These guys are so much fun to listen too. I can see them in Hot Chip's place this year, which I think was Saturday afternoonish.

Nothing against Datarock personally, but how many dance-punk and electro-rock acts do we need? By my count we already have M.I.A., !!!, Ladytron, MSTRKRFT, Ghostland Observatory, and Chromeo. And nothing against those artists, either, nor do I mean to imply that they are all interchangeable... I'd just like to see more diversity, plain and simple. Diversity in electronic music, and diversity overall. I never thought I'd be one to say it, but it's like Bonnaroo is trying to imitate Coachella.
Ghostland Observatory, Datarock & Chromeo definitely qualify as similar types of acts.
But !!!, Ladytron, M.I.A. and MSKTRKRFT are all fairly different from each other in style and execution.
Besides, I'm not altogether certain Datarock is really on the bill. Bands who tour in support of acts playing festivals will often mistakingly post that they're playing that festival too which is not always the case.
lol @ steveternal. You listed 7 acts from the same genre (and they aren't even all that similar anyway), and are complaining about too many artists and not enough diversity? Let's forget about the dozen and a half bland, run-of-the-mill rock acts on the lineup - there's WAAAYYYY too much dance-punk and electro-rock!
I mean, I agree we need some electronic diversity, but just because there are 3 or 4 dance-rock acts doesn't mean Bonnaroo's copying Coachella.

Well, !!! is more of a disco/funk type of band with a punk rock sensibility.
I'm really stoked to see !!! and MIA, but the rest I could do without. I'm neutral. But it's not like they'll have big long sets, either...I could see two or more of them playing back to back hour or two-hour sets.

As much as I like most of these bands a ton, I was thinking the exact same.
I'd like to see someone like DJ Shadow, or STS9, or something else to dance to as well.

Fair enough. Electro-rock groups are not the only oversaturated style this year, I would agree with that. Also I think part of my disappointment is that, while we had a share of bland rock acts to begin with, these are additions, so it more starkly feels like precious spots are being given to artists that are, to be bold, superfluous. We need to CONSERVE! We need to RATION! At the same time, I think you took what I was saying a little too seriously. I never said that they were really similar, just similar enough that it feels like overkill.

Exactly, I think they have a cross between Modest Mouse and Talking Heads. I do not think they fit in the electronic genre at all, but that is an opinion I have, and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
