the one time i saw cake live, a year or two ago, the lead singer was incoherently wasted. if you knew the words to the song, you could sorta understand what he was singing. but when he tried to talk to the crowd, his slurring was sooo bad, and the crowd started laughing at him and it was kinda awkward. (the other band members were looking around like "shit.. who forgot to hide the johnny walker???".) im a casual fan at best and have only seen them that one time, so i was wondering if that is a recurring theme with him or what?
"I want you to notice When I'm not around You're so fücking special I wish I was special But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" -Radiohead
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Benjamin Franklin
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
^ Karma for also being from Winnipeg. I'm making my second long drive down to 'Roo this year. Last year by pure coincidence we wound up camping right next to a couple girls who were also from Winnipeg, small world.
right on for Winnipeg! I went to Coachella last year and talked to a ton of Winnipeggers that were going down before actually leaving, but I only ran into a couple (who were strangely enough, people I went to high school with and hadn't seen in years)

Cake is my favorite band, and I've seen them 15 times. John was never incoherently drunk when I saw them. Usually they put on a great show. I really really hope they get added to the lineup this year.

Definitely a bit slurry when they played Richmond, VA a month or two back.

I've seen them twice, and both times he came off as a bit drunk between songs, but I think that's just kind of his schtick. During the songs he was perfectly on point.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.

I think the songs were fine. Sorry! Didn't meant to imply it was a bad concert. Just that the talky part made him seem a little...not quite on his A-game. Definitely would love to see them at the 'Roo!

I've seen them live several times. Some at festivals and some in clubs. Every festival show, John got pissed about the sound and stopped the set until it was to his liking. I always thought they sounded fine but Johns tirades kinda killed the vibe. Must be something about acoustic guitars and woodblocks that don't translate well outdoors? On the other hand, the club shows have been incredible!
