Got Mirrored last night. Wow I love it! I put on the headphones with the lights out. It made me see repeating patterns of lines and hand-drawn scribbles, multi-colored infinite black and pastel grids, electric blue and yellow flame-like colors as the sounds and vocals swelled and contracted in my head. IMO, not a good album to listen to while working or as background noise. But it heavily rewards anyone who gives a careful introspective listen.
Battles tears it up. They went head to head with Gogol at Vegoose... Both got WAY TO EARLY of a slot. I hope that they get a more decent place in the lineup at Roo.

Well Battles is definitely not playing Sunday, because they'll be in Philly doing a show, which might mean that they aren't doing Saturday either, but that's not necessarily true. I'm hoping for a late night Thurs. or Friday show, myself.

so what album should i start out with? i've never listened to these guys and i watched the Atlas video from Japan and loved it. where do i start?
Get their full length "Mirrored", it's simply amazing. The only other records they have out are a couple of EPs. The EPs are amazing too, but get Mirrored.
How do they do the vocals for the live performance? Are they using something like a souped up Frampton talk box?
I've had the pleasure of seeing Battles live at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX; AMAZING SHOW!
There are soooooooooo many synths, pedals, electronic equipment in general on stage. The vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Tyondai Braxton simply sings into a mic that is run through an ungodly amount of effects. The live loops that they create while playing are phenomenal.
Battles are without a doubt in the top 3 shows of the weekend for me. Possibly behind only The Mars Volta (assuming they are confirmed).
