They might not be everyones cup of tea at first glance...but I really think they can change your mind if you open your ears and minds a bit and check out whats about to happen on that stage when they play. This is a very talented band that has potential to appeal to pretty much any music fan on Earth! They especially have a lot of roots in southern rock (they're from Atlanta) and it's evident when you see them live. Everyone please just give them a fighting chance before you write them off. I'd love to see half the damn campground pack whatever stage they're playing. That wish probably won't happen...but one can dream right? I guarantee you, if you give them 10 minutes live while they're 150 miles away from home, they will amaze you!!!!! I'm planning on checking out a lot of artists that I haven't even heard of this year....you guys do the same. Please!!!

personally i'd like mastodon a lot more if they were an instrumental band.
elephant man is such a good jam... the solo is melting my face as i type this. widdly widdly widdly LOL! i can get into most of their songs until the singer starts his tom araya like drone-scream. not so cookie monster but along those lines.
you're right though mastodon has a lot to offer.. they're more progressive than anything.
maybe they will take the mushroom fountain out and replace it with a "mountain of blood". though any blood flowing in the fountain would probably be more sanitary than the brown water thats there by mid afternoon.....
i'm guessing mastodon will be playing thur. but they are kind of high up on the list for that. i just can't see them in the middle of the day at bonnaroo though.

that's what i'm thinking. battles and the sword are listed as thur. according to another thread here, so i bet that is the lineup for that tent thur. night.
I am not a metal fan really, but I really do dig what I've heard from Mastodon when there are no vocals. I am not at all a fan of the vocals, however. What is the ratio of instrumentals to vocals in their live show? Because I'd love to give them a chance, they seem to be awesome musicians.

just watching those guys play will distract you from the vocals. the first time i ever saw/heard them they were opening for clutch like 5 years ago. they completely blew me away. i'm not into much metal but for some reason i like they way they do it. they are really good live, but i haven't been able to see them since then.

Well if that is the case it looks like I will be rocking out with my cock out that Thursday night. The Sword and Mastodon is going to be one hell of a night.

After today, listening to the new album, non objectively, as a "rockin' experience" I enjoyed it. I'm confident that Mastodon will be absolutely incredible this year.

Ive had Blood mountain for awhile now but never listened to it til today. I really like it. Im not the usual metal listener (although i like lamb of god and deftones) Mastodon has a different metal vibe. Its not all totally screaming blah blah blah in low devilsh voices. Yes there are songs like that in blood mountain, but they also have some neat acoustic stuff. I think Ill check em out, cause I think Ill be pleasently surprised.
Yup, they started singing on Blood Mountain. I'm guessing they'll play a majority of that album @ roo. The guitar work in Bladecatcher is absolutely spellbounding. Anyone feel free to hit me up on AIM n I'll give you that album.

Both Leviathan and Blood Mountain are incredible albums. (Although I personally love Leviathan just a little bit more) They will definately play some great instrumental stuff like "Sleeping Giant." Anyone who is open to heavy music, is going to love Mastodon. Brann Dailor is a fantastic drummer, and the guitars are riff heaven. This band will win the crowd over!

Personally, I would watch every single set at Bonnaroo if time would allow. I will definitely be at Mastodon though. They are a must see for me this year.
I'm not a metal fan in general, but unless there's a conflict, I plan on seeing Mastodon. Hopefully the crowd will be into it and we'll all have some fun.
