Solomon Burke is a beloved deity in the world of soul music. He was one of the early Atlantic artists and is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And, if you don't know the name, you still probably know the music. His biggest hit is probably "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," which was covered most famously by the Blues Brothers. He played at the private after-party that followed the Led Zep tribute to Ahmet Ertugan. He had a bit of a resurgence a few years ago with the album "Don't Give Up On Me" where everyone from Dylan, to Van Morrison, to Tom Waits wrote songs for him to perform. In the novel High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, the main character worships Solomon Burke. (But when that tool John Cusack got his hands on the book, he moved the setting from London to Chicago and made the main character a new wave afficionado.) Like Ray Charles, an Atlantic label-mate, Burke also has a feeling for country music and has recorded with a number of greats from that genre.

His show will be a blast. I'm thinking something reminiscent of Mavis Staples last year. The crowd is going to energize him so much, just like they did with Mavis.
Had no clue this thread existed... I guess it got eaten by all the other post line up threads...
None the less, I'm really looking forward to this show... I can't wait. And the interview he did with Bonnaroo.com helps in the excitement. Gonna be a terrific show, i just wish more people would recognize this guy's presence.

Since objects that size exert their own gravitational pull, people will have no choice but to recognize his presence. And then, when they find themselves orbiting his act, they'll see and hear what a soul legend he is.
I worry that his mobility issues make it harder for him to make guest appearances with other acts. Because he's beloved within the music industry.
I am going to try to make it to this show. Bonnaroo is good with booking underrated legends of our time. James Blood Ulmer's set was fantastic last year.
