Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I guess that leaves PJ for Saturday and ? for Sunday??
From Metallica: Okay . . . we know that it has been a while since we've had a full-on Metalli-experience Stateside, but that's about to change. We are psyched to share with you that we have been invited to headline the Bonnaroo Music Festival . . . so Manchester, Tennessee here we come on June 13, 2008!
For the uninitiated, Bonnaroo is a four day, multi-stage old school European style festival held on a 700 acre farm about an hour's drive from Nashville. There will be 13 stages on a 100 acre entertainment village including around the clock attractions and activities . . . comedy, jazz, cinema, workshops, food, crafts . . . never a dull moment! The first go around was in 2002 and since then headliners have included Radiohead, The Police, Tool, The White Stripes, Tom Petty, and Dave Matthews. This year we'll be joining Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, Kanye West, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant and others. How cool is it to be thrown into that company??
The Bonnaroo gang does an amazing job at giving you everything you could want/need for a great weekend . . . so hang out, soak up the vibe, and embrace the whole experience . . . actually you have no choice, single day tickets are not available!!! Visit their site at www.bonnaroo.com for more details on travel packages, info on camping, which is what most chose to do, where to stay if you're not into that, and a slew of other useful info.
Tickets go on sale on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at noon EST (that's 9 AM for us West Coast types) and you can only get them through the Bonnaroo site.
The first tickets will be priced at a special rate of $209.50 each. There is a limited allotment of tickets at this price. When the first allotment is sold out, ticket prices will increase without notice to $229.50 and then again without notice to $244.50. All tickets are 4-day weekend passes, which include camping and parking.
And for the record, while I think Metallica is a bit of a strange fit for Roo, I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by how much fun they are live. There is a reason why a "metal band" is able to still play stadiums years past their "record-selling peak".
The way I see it is more Metallica fans will be turned off by the camping aspect and the rest of the lineup rather than regular Bonnaroo folks being turned off by Metallica. Just seems more feasable

I just look at it as a chance for them to redeem themselves in front of a musically diverse lineup. You realize how many bands that are "roo" bands have Metallica as an influence. I am fine with this as long as Les Claypool gets added to the bill as an addition and gets to slap the bass with Metallica. I can do without Kanye, but oh well, maybe he will bring a lot of his friends and have a quality late night hip hop act. Who knows though.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
I wouldn't mind seeing Metallica, but I wouldn't pay to see just them ever. I'll go see them, and who knows I may end up having a great time. I simply wouldn't choose to see them at Bonnaroo if I had the choice. Once again, that being said, I'll be at the show cause it's THE ONLY SHOW GOING ON AT THAT TIME, what else am I gonna do?

I saw them in 2000 n there was a pretty sizable pit. I'm sure they will lure a few drunk rednecks out of the woodworks to come out n cause some trouble. I can't really say anything though. I'm gonna try my hardest to either start or amplify a pit during the Mastodon & Against Me! sets.
I got the crap knocked out of me at the Summer Sanitarium tour in 2000. I've seen Metallica many of times and I have to say, meh. I'll catch the first 30 minutes and then get a prime spot for a late night show.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
Metallica's crowd isn't really violent... And they're really not bad live... I agree with some of the statements before in that there will be more Metallica fans turned off by the camping and the lineup than Roo fans turned off by Metallica... Plus, it would kind of be cool to see the guys from Mastodon shred with their metal predecessors
I just hope Metallica plays some old stuff. We obviously have to deal with them at this point. Hopefully they see all of this and take offense to the fact that I think they sold out and make really terrible music now n play Ride The Lightening in full!

my concern with metallica is the fans over the music...I know every band comes with jerks but it just seems the metal aspect will bring an angry vibe? As a small hippie girl who likes to go to festivals where everyone is friendly and I can feel semi-safe it rattles me to think I may feel unsafe this year in those rare moments where I'm alone. Nor do I really want to see fighting...and I'm not just saying at the metallica show because trust me I will be avoiding that....I mean during the rest of the festival. Can any metallica fan shine a little light on what to expect from the fans? I'm trying (desperately) to keep an open mind and really not trying to insult anyone...it's just something I've never been around before. Help Please!

Good grief, isn't this all we heard last year about Tool? No worries littlebirdie, it will be fine.
Exactlly. When i saw the lineup, all I could think about was how painful it is going to be to watch everyone complain like they did about Tool. No way to stop it though. Everything will be fine. I heard of no problems at Tool yet had to help seperate a fight at The Black Crowes at Voodoo. You don't know what will happen based on the band. Just enjoy the show.

I didn't complain last year about tool, I know a lot of jam fans that are also into tool so this didn't intimidate me. but you are saying there is no difference between tool and metallica? besides I think safety is a pretty valid concern coming from the female perspective...just voicing my opinion.
