I never thought tool would ruin bonnaroo metallica wont ruin bonnaroo....
its more of the principle of the thing. MOST people who go to bonnaroo will not be happy if metallica plays, and if they are booked, it will make superfly look pretty bad, imo. It will look like they just got slim pickings with whoever was left over and only booked them because of the "big name".

I wouldnt by ANY means call Metallica "slim pickings", especially after having Widepread Panic as a headliner last year.
Metallica>WSP
Just because this board doesn't like Metallica doesn't mean they're not a hugely popular band. I'm sure the festival would sellout if they headlined with some other decent names. Seriously though guys, why would Metallica fans go to bonnaroo to see them?
If Metallica plays, I would bank on lots of Garage Inc/Garage Days (covers) material, an acoustic set, and stuff like Until It Sleeps, Unforgiven I/II with a few of the big hits mixed in
It may seem silly to not go to Roo because of one band, but the price of the tickets, travel costs, and the cost of being down there is a whole lot of money to me. If there was a headliner I felt more neutral about, I would still go. But I can't justify spending that amount of money if the line-up doesn't wow me like it used to.
And I realize that Bonnaroo is not a jam band only festival anymore. I like it that way, I'm not a huge jam-band-only sort of fan. I've been more excited about indy bands than jam bands in the past. But Metallica has no place at Bonnaroo and I will have no part in it if it happens.

i support this thread too but if everyone is correct about the radio clues and metallica is actually there then w/e. doesnt mean i have to be at that show and they arent the only ones gonna be at roo. i wont let one band ruin a whole experience for me. like others have said im sure i can find other things to do, including sleep, while metallica is on stage laming it up in front of whoever still cares. hopefully the latenights that night are just out of this world
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.

LOL. "Slim pickings?"
Like them or not, they are one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years (worldwide). They sold out Wembly stadium last year.
OK, I don't want Metallica at Roo by any means, but if they're there, I'll be in the crowd, making the best of it...enjoying whatever they play of the good pre-1990 output and trying to ignore the rest. I mean, I just kind of feel like a boycott is sort of an empty gesture...I mean, boycotting Roo would be one thing, but shelling out the dough for tix and then boycotting one headlining set? I don't think that will bother the folks at Superfly overmuch.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.

If Metallica plays, Metallica plays......that's how it goes....I don't care either way....Because as I said in another thread, If Metallica is a headliner than that is just going to give me a few hours to maybe nap, maybe make myself a nice dinner, and then get up with the other people not going and have a late night boycotting party while waiting for the more roo appropriate music to come on.....There is no reason to get all huffy.....at this point it's not gonna help any......SSSOOOOOOOO why not just plan to enjoy yourself elsewhere those few hours......you can come join us at our late night boycotting party....we'll bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
i don't think they will draw a bunch of 'tallica heads... (whatever that is)
the offset acts and reputation of 'roo will keep the crowd about the same, i'll bet.
i have seen them many times, and i really do respect all your opinions, but one band can't change the spirit of BONNAROO!
hard substance, soft subtance... i think it will be orchestrated. and it if it's trey/manchester orchestra, you all shall be at the show, and maybe hetfield will leave with a little hippie in him
that's all a long stretch, i know... but it is my diplomatic attempt at saying just be optimistic none of us have ever been to a bonnaroo that just sucked, right?
I happened to go to DMB this summer at the Tweeter Center in Camden. I had seen Dave plenty of times before, but not in about 5/6 years. I still like the music. I have to say, the scene in the parking lot was the worst lot I had ever seen. Everyone in the lot seemed to be under 21 (that's fine, not a problem), but it was out of control. Kids throwing glass bottles for the fun of it, fight after fight after fight, girls getting groped left and right, people passing out in vomit, etc.. Basically, a major train-wreck. I highly doubt you would see ANYTHING remotely close to that at a Metallica show these days. Original fans are in their late 30's and they just don't draw that "underbelly of society" like many of you suggest. My point is, you'd be surprised at who actually draws the problem crowds.

Actually, I'd always thought this was a really funny thing, but Dave crowds have just a horrendous reputation. Bizarre but true.

I can't tell you how many times I had been to the Tweeter. From Ozz fest to Radiohead to Tool to Horde fest, etc...That Dave show had the worst lot out of all of them. It was such a horrible seen outside the venue.
