I wouldnt consider Modest Mouse great live. Seen them twice; once at a fest and once in a fairly small venue. Good shows but not great. I'm not sad they're out.

I thought they were better as a band with him. Johnny was with them at Lollapalooza. I thought they lost something in the festival atmosphere but that didnt seem related to him.
Modest Mouse was very boring when they played Roo in '05. I know I may get some flack for that, but it seemed to me that they were just going through the motions. They played "Float On" like the 2nd song, I think they were tired of hearing it and just wanted to get it over with. No complaints about that, it just seemed like they were going through the motions rather than giving their full best effort. If you can't get excited to play something as massive and wonderful as Bonnaroo, you probably shouldn't be an artist.
I'm still not counting this out yet. I've seen stranger things happen and thats why. I agree that Sasquatch is probably where they are headed, but I'm gonna hold out. 2 days off during Bonnaroo ... don't know about that one. Thinking one or the other will show up. (Be that Modest Mouse or R.E.M.)

If you are anywhere in the western hemisphere there is a chance. Trey played 06 with oysterhead on fri opened for Tom Petty in St Louis on sat and then flew back down for the grab superjam sat night dont rule anything out

They don't have to headline the What stage. They could headline the Which stage. I think that would make sense anyway.
I agree with MM putting on a boring show. I saw them in Philly last summer, and they just played their songs...they didn't perform them. I am sad to see that REM is unlikely though, I've been wanting to see them for a long time now.
I really wanted Modest Mouse, esp after just seeing the "new" leaked lineup (this is getting ridiculous)
I saw MM the show just before Bonnaroo in 2005 playing in Kentucky, and they had their shiit together. Very professional, tight, and were feelin it. Isaac mentioned Bonnaroo a couple of time during that set.
