Following in the footsteps of Led Zeppelin who reunited this year, The Kinks are planning to reunite for a reunion tour next year. The Kinks' lead singer and guitarist, Ray Davies, said that the band's original members plan to play together for the first time in nearly four decades.
The original Kinks line-up included Davies' brother Dave on guitar, Pete Quaife on bass, and Mick Avory on drums. Quaife left the band in 1969, and the band continued with changing line-ups until 1996.
Dave Davies had a stroke, and Pete Quaife now has kidney problems, but according to Ray, both are very keen to get back together for a full reunion.
Davies, 63, said "I spoke to Quaife about a month ago and he dearly wants to make another record with me. I think Dave's getting better and Mick's still playing. It would be great to get back together just to see what musical ideas we had and what would happen."
The Kinks reunion is likely to coincide with the release of a Kinks CD box set called "Retrospective."
Man I love The Kinks. IMHO they are the most underappreciated bands of the 60's British invasion. Ray Davies is an incredible songwriter and Dave Davies is an amazing guitarist. I would be thrilled to see them at 'Roo.
I read somewhere that Dave Davies pretty much shot the idea down as big talk from Ray. So yeah, I wouldn't count on a substantial reunion from The Kinks. Now, Ray Davies, on the other hand, I could see him doing a solo set. He's signed with Big Hassle's publicity, and guys like Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson have played Bonnaroo in previous years...
