hmm...ok then...try some tenacious d, old staind (dysfunction/tormented), Placebo, the offspring (smash), mindless self indulgence, Mastodon, Live (Throwing Copper), Jethro Tull, Dire Straits, Bloodhound Gang, and alice in chains
Music that I suggest to just about anyone is very, very scarce. But, I've gotta say, 9 times out of 10, people love Van Morrison.
I mean, sure, you may know a few of his songs, but check out some of the albums. Here are some of my personal favs, as, IMO, he is the single best singer. Ever.
Astral Weeks - Stream of consciousness songwriting, and dreamlike textures mark this landmark album that is widely considered one of the best albums of all time.
Moondance - Fantastic soul/r&b album, one of my personal favs of his. Also, probably his most famous record.
St. Dominic's Preview - A great, great album with more jazz overtones than any of his other work. This album has some of his most lush and complex compositions, along with one of his best pop openers, "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)."
Tupelo Honey - My personal favorite of his albums, just a great, great, simple album. "Wild Night," "You're My Woman," and "Old Old Woodstock" are among his best songs. The album closing "Moonshine Whiskey" is also a fantastic song.
Veedon Fleece - Another of his "stream of consciousness" records, this one a bit darker. After a seperation of his wife, this finds him in a much heavier sense of self, with more self analytical lyrics than ever. "You Don't Pull No Punches, But You Don't Push The River" could be one of his best stand alone songs.

Hehe yep I like them all, except Mastodon. I am not a huge fan of MSI but they are ok - my daughter recently saw them live and she listens to them all the time.
Nola - I love MMJ live but don't really love their studio stuff.
Great suggestions everyone thanks !! I am going to be very busy over the next few weeks exporing new stuff ;D
Kings of Leon....Great band and I normally don't like Indie stuff. Too much whining into a microphone for me, but heh whatever you like. Takes a little while to get used to the lead singers voice, but after that it's total pleasure for your ears.
A great bluegrass band is always Yonder Mountain String Band.
And then Keller Williams is killer, a lot like a Dave Matthews/John Mayer type of band
I think all 3 have played Roo one year or another, I know I saw KOL last year, totally awesome band live.

Grizzly Bear - 'wall of sound' shoegazey heroin rock. love it. Fleet Foxes - acoustic, folksy, bluegrassy rock White Magic - psychedelic rock Midnight Juggernauts - experimental/psychedelic rock Old Crow Medicine Show - bluegrass/rock Chromeo - funky new skool poppish rap stuff. lol The Knife - poppy, haunting indie electronica swedish(?) rock Ingrid Michaelson - singer/songwriter stuff. good. Cicada - electronica The Cool Kids - hip hop Flosstradamus - bmorish, funky, stylish hip hop
Galactic - New Orleans funk/jazz band, their latest CD From the Corner to the Block has different MC's on almost every track Muse - I guess I would say progressive British rock in a sense, but check out Absolution Citizen Cope - extremely relaxed, I would say a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and folk, if you will, check out The Clarence Greenwood Recordings The Cat Empire - an Australian band, a alternative mix of jazz, funk, and rock, and Latin, (wow hard to classify these bands), but check out Two Shoes Wolfmother - All out rock and roll Australian act, check out the self-titled debut Wolfmother

clutch - live or studio. songs: try '10001110101' or 'ghost' flyleaf - acoustic. songs: acoustic versions of 'cassie' or 'supernatural' warren haynes - acoustic live from bonnaroo. the cd is chill. coheed and cambria - live or studio. songs: try 'feathers' or 'the light and the glass' my morning jacket - live (what you prefer) and try 'the bear' acoustic... hed(pe) (your heavy hiphop fix) - live or studio. songs: try 'pac bell' or 'ken2012' down (southern metal) - live and studio. songs: try 'stone the crow' and 'wars'
Matt Costa-Songs that we sing ALO-Roses and Clover Blues Trveler-four(an oldy but a goody) dont know if youve tried Phish or not yet but if youd like to give them a shot I had my most success getting into them with the Story of a Ghost
Here's some good stuff you might not have heard of:
OLDER STUFF
Gary Higgins- Red Hash Sounds A Bit Like: CSNY, Bonnie Prince Billy, Kansas Why You Need It?: Because everybody needs an album to chill out to.
The Pretty Things- S.F. Sorrow Sounds A Bit Like: Early Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, The Flaming Lips Why You Need It?: This is without a doubt the most overlooked psychadelic rock album of all time. It's the primary source of inspiration for The Who's "Tommy". It sounds like 20 years of music rolled into one mindblowing, genre bending. On top of that, it's a rock opera. So yeah, definitely worth checking out for any fan of 60s rock.
Betty Davis- Betty Davis & They Say I'm Different Sounds A Bit Like: Parliament, Macy Gray, Sly & The Family Stone Why You Need It?: There is no nastier, more raw funk out there than Betty Davis. She was married to Miles Davis during the beginning phase of his acid jazz phase and was good friends with Hendrix. And it shows.
Ben Webster- At Ronnie Scott 1964 Sounds a Bit Like: Duke Ellington, David Murray, Coleman Hawkins Why You Need It? Webster was one of the great swing era saxophonists, playing for a time with Duke Ellington. By the 60s, he was living Europe, and his sound had mellowed way out. In this album, he has deeply phrased rich takes on classic standards like "Stardust" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" juxtaposed with classic swing tunes that display his range as a player.
Beach Boys- Sunflower/Surf's Up Sounds a Bit Like: The Beatles Why You Need It?: This is THE Beach Boys album for people who hate the Beach Boys. These two albums came after Brian Wilson's post-Pet Sounds meltdown. The result was a more democratic process that made for two richly diverse albums that are arguably the groups true high point.
NEWISH:
Spoon- Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Sounds A Bit Like: Solo John Lennon without the social messages Why You Need It? Everybody needs a good pop rock album every once and awhile. This is perfect car music.
The Illegible DJ Caps & Pandemonium Jones- Moving In Stereo Sounds A Bit Like: Everything they sample from Fleetwood Mac to Ol Dirty Bastard Why You Need It? Because you tried to get into Girl Talk and other mashup djs but you're not really into hip/hop that much and you want music that speaks to your mind as much as it does to you feet. Plus, it's a free download on their website.
Spiritualized- Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Sounds a Bit Like: Oasis, Stone Roses, Spacemen 3, Badly Drawn Boy, The Verve Why You Need It? You need an album to dream to every once and awhile and this is a perfect combo of modern psychadelica, electronica and Beatles-esque pop. Turn your brain off and turn the album up.
Serena Maneesh- Serena Maneesh Sounds a Bit Like: Velvet Underground, Jesus & Mary Chain, Jefferson Airplane Why You Need It? It's rock. It's metal. It's noise. It's punk. It's grunge. It's raw. When this band puts it altogether, watch out. In the meantime, get acquainted with them and try to catch them live next time they come through.
Jesu- Silver EP Sounds a Bit Like: Alice in Chains slowed way the hell down and much happier Why You Need It? If you listen to groups like Explosions in the Sky or Sigur Ros, and think they're kind of pussyfooting around with ambient, try adding a little metal to your atmospherics. This is not the best Jesu release, but it's a good introduction to their quickly expanding catalogue, and it will give you an idea if it's worth checking them out some more.

I am an old Phish and Blues Traveler fan - seen them both many times, so I guess I am kind of tired of them, although I still do listen to Phish. I just started listening to ALO and I kind of like them so far. Matt Costa is one I think I need to check out ;D
dudezer - good suggestions also - I think I might like Spoon.

Every word here is truth. Van Morrison is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Astral Weeks and Moondance are my two favorite albums by him, but you can't go wrong with a single one listed here.
Blind Melon - Their self-titled album is real good, and so is their others, but their newest one isn't that great. The new singer just doesn't cut it. Check out the song "Change," probably one of my favorites ever.
Weezer - Blue Album is good, and Pinkerton is slightly better. Listen to "Say it ain't so." Reminds me of my childhood
Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head, I'll let you know once I get my CD books back.
If you are a Phish, Dave, etc fan... get some moe. (if you haven't already) those boys are ON FIRE in the last couple years. They have a new album dropping in January.
