anyone else think explosions in the sky will play roo? i was semi-confident they would play last year with the popularity they'd been gaining, but as they didn't, maybe this year? a new update on their website says "after june 2008 we will be disappearing for awhile"...bonnaroo seems like the perfect way to go out.
i hope they play. and on a completely unrelated note, it'd be sweet if ratatat played too.
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things

I'd rather not lump performers into categories, but I do think Bonnaroo is woefully lacking in the experimental rock and post-rock realms. Tortoise is a standout, and one of the best, but EITS, Sigur Rós, Mogwai, A Silver Mt. Zion, and many others would really bring a much needed element to 'roo. Anyone seen EITS live? I'll bet they're good, but I'd like to hear how good.

I have heard amazing things about their live show. I am seeing them in April though, so we'll see.
I do agree with your post-rock sentiment, though. To add to your list, The Album Leaf and Red Sparowes would be amazing there as well, but I think EITS is the most likely.
But yeah, all I thought the whole time I was there last year was "EITS and Ratatat would be aweosme here..." (which is why I mentioned em both in this thread).

I saw Explosions on the ACL show (in HD I might add) and it was real good stuff. Since then, I've gotten every single one of their albums. I think they'd be wonderful in a late night spot, but at the same time, there are probably a lot of other bands that I would rather see in a late night slot than them, Nonetheless, I really hope they will be at the Roo.
i agree full on about needing more post rock stuff. i tend to find most EITS songs to be pretty, but lacking depth. so, i'd prefer ASMZ or Do Make Say Think.
I saw EITS last month...their live show is nothing short of amazing. Their songs are great, but their live show is what really sold them for me. Tortoise drew a pretty big crowd last year, and I think they would do the same. Maybe a good band for Thursday night? I think they would be a great addition to Roo.
Yeah I hope Explosions will be there this year. Sounds like there is a good chance with their tour ending in June and all. I so wanted them there last year but it didn't happen.

yeah i think there is a decent possibility. they are also in the festival spotlight lately since they are putting together the "all tomorrows parties" fest. let's hope!

last year i tried getting in contact with the band, but no dice, so that left me rather disappointed. But I digress, I've been listening to explosions for quite a while, finally saw them last year prior to the roo and it was amazing. If you think you get enveloped by their songs from the album, you'll get fully and entirely immersed into the show live. I think they'd slide nicely into a late night slot, or hell a nice sunday afternoon show even.
But yeah, I'd be fairly surprised if they played Bonnaroo this year. It looks like they'll be ending their tour in Europe. Still a chance though that they do one last big gig before taking time off...
