So here's a funny story. I believe STS9 was playing late night Friday. I had never heard them before so thought nothing of skipping it for the Super Jam. On the way out, I hear maybe ONE song from a distance and it caught my ear a little bit, but I was too fucked up to remember or anything. I get home, and out of boredom/bonnaroo withdrawal decide to download "Artifact"
WTF! THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!!! IS THIS WHAT THE LIVE STUFF SOUNDS LIKE!?!
I need to know more about this band, they don't seem very popular (at least in NYC where I live. I put on Artifact all the time now, it's one of my favorite albums of the moment. Do they tour often? When/Where have they played in NY? Is it realistic to expect them at either Cochella or Bonnaroo next year?
Don't bother about Coachella, I can't see STS9 thriving on a 45 minute set, they need the 3 hour spread into the late night (as far as I'm concerned). There's a festival coming up soon somewhere (Carolinas?) with four sets from STS9 in one weekend. I loved them at Roo in '05 an '07. If you can't find a boot, get the '05 set from livebonnaroo. Or is it bonnaroolive?
Little trivia: They have an artist who works to the left of the stage , starts each show with a blank canvas and completes an entire work during each set.

As far as I'm concerned, STS9 live and Artifact are on two completely different levels. I love Artifact, but man... nothing compares to them live. I suggest downloading the Roo set pronto. It's in the Bonnaroo Downloads thread here on inforoo.

I wouldn't expect Sound Tribe to play Bonnaroo next year. They are on the every other year late night plan. By that I mean they have played late night in 2003, 2005, and 2007, taking 2002, 2004, and 2006 off. If that pattern holds true they'll be back in 2009 for a late night show.
Interestingly enough they have played Vegoose late night every year, including this year, however, those are sepereate shows, not part of the ticketed festival.

The artist is J. Garcia...
I got to stand in front of the railing at allgood and whatch his piece come together. I was right beside him. It was amazing watching him paint to the music no more than 2 feet away. This guy is really good!

I absolutely agree. And it is correct to say that STS9 could not possibly thrive on a 45 minute set. I, personally need 2.5 hours+ to get down ;D ;D

Sound Tribe has been my favorite for years. I live in Charlotte, NC and they play A-ville quite a bit. Just had Re-Generation fest there at Deerfields. Cherokee owned land. Sweet venue. You can hook up w/many live shows at bt.etree.org for a sh**load of great music from them and other taper friendly bands too...bit torrent. Check it out!
