i myself am a huge fan and was a bit disappointed as well.
the setlist: One Sweet World Don't Drink The Water Anyone Seen The Bridge -> Too Much
Now of course they'll play One Sweet World... it's a global warming event! But if you look at the setlist from when they did Live 8 in 2005.
Don't Drink the Water Dreamgirl American Baby Anyone Seen the Bridge » Too Much
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! MIX THAT CRAP UP!!!! That was my beef with the set.... and DDTW sounded terrible, sorry dave, but i hope your voice gets worked out before tommorrow, .... ahem, you do know your tour starts tommorrow, right dave?
Have to admit I was more into checking out his special ed/custom Taylor guitar to pay much attention to what he sounded like...I'm a bit obsessed with Taylors........... ;D
But I've heard voices not in the head Out in the air they called ahead Through ripped out speakers Through thick and thin They found a shelter Under my skin -Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Nikolaev
I have to say watching the recap on Bravo right now....so far I have to give the vocal award so far to - and I really hate to say it - to Keith Urban and Alicia Keys for their cover of Gimme Shelter....so far I have yet to hear anyone measure up...the Beastie Boys are just now up and I haven't head DD2 yet...and they were supposed to be good....

There was another thread on this, but the Foo Fighters in Wembley totally rocked and so did Linkin Park in Japan.
I really enjoyed KT Tunstall and Missy Higgins - had really heard none of their music before but ended up watching the whole of both of their shows and loved them.

I'm glad somebody shares an obsession with Taylors! Who needs a Martin when you can have a Taylor?

I was there too. Dave's voice was off, no doubt, but there were also technical difficulties with his guitar. Were he performing solo, I'd be pissed. Luckily, the rest of the band was there as well, and tight as ever. For my $53, it was a pretty solid 20 minutes.
I have to agree, the sound was off through their whole performance. What is that little drum thing that the drummer was playing with? at one point it was like the only thing you could hear.
i was there, i thought DMB sounded fine. i was sitting on the floor though, about 20 rows from the stage, mabey the sound wasnt as good if you were up in the higher seats.
the police were just as unimpressive as they were at bonnaroo.
roger waters was awesome, right b4 he went on some couple comes walking up to me and says there leaving and hands me there tickets, i moved up from the 20th row over to the right, to 3rd row dead center, it was incredible.
smashin pumpkins blew...... im suprised noone brought this up, they were the loudest band allll day, alot of the guitar was wayyy too fuzzy and sloppy, billy's voice was allll over the place, during bullet with butterfly wings it didnt evne sound like he was singing in the right tempo, and the vocals were up WAY too high/

I am sorry for all the people that like smashing pumpkins, but that was a very mediocre live show. By the way I do not consider that the Smashing Pumpkins, when only two of the original members are there. The only way I would want them to play roo is with the original members. Hell they even brought in another chick to make it look like how the original lineup did. Very unimpressed.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

i'll throw in my 2 cents: -The original members would be great, but would never happen. all the egos are clashing and two of the original members are good enough, or so it seems -D'arcy was hot, but this new girl is pretty smoking too and comes from a reputable band history. -D'arcy is a crackhead now. -Iha is holding out for a Perfect Circle reunion, while Tool is still chugging along. -the new album they all wrote together is great. Not sure why they just didn't call themselves another name other than the smashing pumpkins, but Zeitgeist is really pretty good. -They do sound as good live now as they did then, despite how they sounded on saturday night. We've already established a few other bands had off days on saturday night
Smashing Pumpkins on the marquee pulls in more people than, say, Moshing Pimpkins would (or, to be more precise, Zwan v2).
karma... that made me giggle out loud, not laugh, but giggle. but even if they had called themselves Zwan v2, the real smashing pumpkins fans would have sold out all the venues they are trying to play.
but then again, they wouldn't have been headliners at all these huge festies either. i guess money was more important than music to billy.
although... i'd definitely be interested and probably go see what a band called the Moshing Pimpkins would have to offer! ;D

I caught the Smashing Pumpkins in Asheville and it was far far beyond great. One of the best rock shows I have ever been to.
As for the whole should they still be called SP or not. The fact is that when it comes to the guitar parts in SP's music it is all Billy. Iha is an amazing musician but in the pumpkins he was just very simple rhythm. Every bit of the guitar shredding was Billy then and is Billy now. Darcy was just a decent bassist, so your not losing much there either. Now if Jimmy Chamberlin were not in the band it would be a different story. But the whole of their music truly is Billy and Jimmy.
I have seem them many times and they were far better this time then any of the past shows that had the full band.
