the roots were on fire. i loved it. even if you don't like hip hop, you have to admit the roots rocked you. because they are more than hip hop. they can rock. they can jam. they can play jazzy stuff. they can play old r & b, soul and funk. they can do it all. probably the most fun show of the weekend.
Big Roots fan, been to 25+ shows. This was a good show but I was a little dissapointed they made the set more for the jamband crowd and didn't play a lot of originals. No Proceed or You Got Me? This is the first time I have EVER seen them when they didn't play one of these. Still a great show though and the Galactic hip-hop SuperJam made up for it a million times over.
Totally agree. Always loved the Roots being from Philly myself. But they really caught me by surprise with this show. My sleeper show of Roo. Excellent.

This show really was amazing...I knew ?uestlove was an amazing drummer, but I had no idea their guitarist (whose name I don't even know) was that great. Singing Masters of War to the national anthem takes some guts, and then that solo...damn, I'm still blown away.

guitarists name was Captain kirk douglas, and yes he was ferking awesome. lets not forget leonardo diHumphrio on bass, that was sick. i expected to watch 20 minutes of the roots but was sucked in for the whole set, totally rocked.

ahhhh we were third row--absolutely amazing, may have been my favorite show of roo. my friends and i were so pumped to see them and they did NOT disappoint. their cover of roxanne? hands down better than the police's version. everyone jumping up and down during the chorus was the besttt
oh, and having mostly seen pictures of him, you know, sitting down at a drumset, none of us had any idea how CURVACEOUS our dear ?uestlove was. seriously, his lower half is like that of a curvy black woman's, and it's fantastic.
Kicked my ass a thousand times over! Like a couple of other people, I wasn't planning on staying long, and then it turned into the best set of the whole weekend. I still can't get over how fucking awesome they were, and it happened a week ago.
I'm really pissed we didn't stay for their set. We were there for like two songs and were too tired to do anything else that day, so we went back to camp to rest up for the late nights (which we didn't even make it to, due to an "incident" that lemonade probably doesn't want to share...).
Turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes I made all weekend. Next show in my area, I'm there!
first time catching the Roots - sooooo incredible. LOVE the brass.
Actually, a life-changing event for my husband - he has never really been into music or live shows, but it was during the Roots that he turned to me and said "I got it. I understand why people go to concerts." And he couldn't stop talking about it - all the way back to NYC!
I took my friend to a Roots show in LA and he doesn't go to many concerts and is not a HUGE music fan. They played for almost 4 hours with guests appearances by Talib Kweli and Mos Def. My friend said no show will ever match up to that one and he would be ruined for love music from there on out.
I had always wanted to see the Roots and Roo gave me my chance. What a damn good show that was. I was rocking out the entire way.The Wu-tang cover got me even more pumped and what a version of machine gun.

That was a great show. But I wish it had been longer. When they last came to Atlanta they played for about 3 hours. They did mostly the same set list though (I.E. Game Theory, James Brown, The Seed, Star, etc.) , but they through in a J Dilla tribute which totally made the show.
the roots rocked .. i cant wait to see them again .. and i hate (hip-hop) rap.. they did so many good covers . hell i thought james brown came back to life to party with us at bonnaroo.. he rocked it there before he died. nevertheless . two thumbs up for the roots ....

Man, I really wanted to see the Roots. However, I couldn't pass up a 2nd row, center of the stage spot for The Black Keys...I hope they come back next year.
The Roots were incredible, probably the best show this year. Plus they played Roxanne, which was the only song I would have gone to see The Police play, so I got to skip their set and get a good spot for the Lips.
I LOVED it. Danced my ass off the entire time. Completely blew my expectations of them out of the water! I loved Masters of War and their cover of Roxanne. Plus, that sousaphone player and the rest of the brass section were AMAZING and so much fun to watch!
Anyone who wants to see the Roots in their city, be sure to get your tickets EARLY as they have been selling out just about every show, some in the first couple weeks they go on sale.
