One of my highlights of the whole weekend was Mavis Staples doing The Weight with the Decemberists. Their separate sets were both in my top five of the weekend so to see them together was a real treat. I'll definitely be looking for that to surface online.

Along with those mentioned, I liked the guests with Dr. Dog. Don't know their names, but it was a percussionist from Apollo Sunshine (playing timbales) and the clarinetist from Elvis Perkins in Dearland. What was cool about it was that it was clearly a totally impromptu thing-- the guests were not miced well, if at all, obviously didn't know the songs they were playing on, and it's possible the band didn't even invite them. But still everyone involved had a great time and it was a great testament to the spirit of Bonnaroo.

The lead singer from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah played with Elvis Perkins and Dearland during the song MayDay. I just kind of wandered in there between the Wolfmother/Decemberists sets and got that nice surprise. Fantastic.
Yeah, we had a heads up on the Mavis/Decemberist collab at the press con...she did The Weight in her 1 pm set then in the press con they announced they would do a collab in the Decemberists set. Very cool. But nothing beat the Tool/Morello combo for me....I was so far back I couldn't see anything but finally saw something posted on youtube - awesome!!! ;D

SCI brought out Keller for Best Feeling and staying alive. Someon on the boards mentioned it to be barry gibb...thats makes me laugh! DJ Shadow brought out The Truth Speaker (but we knew that) The galactic show was one crazy collaboration. And I also saw Tom morello with Tool.
All in all, even though there were less special guests then years in the past...It was cool, and special.
This was my best roo ever...and I've attended all! This one was life changing for all kinds of reasons.
Mavis and The Decemberists was so awesome. I had never heard her sing before, but I knew that she's pretty much a legend. I loved how Colin was like "well, I don't even know how to follow that up," although "The Chimbley Sweep" did a decent job of it. Their set was high in my top 5 for the weekend, and "The Weight" was definitely a huge part of it.
Ziggy and Ben was pretty sweet too.

JPJ, Michael Franti, Bob Weir, Lewis Black, Jack Cassady, Barry Mitterhoff, Jorma Kaukonen, and Luther Dickinson with Mule. ;D
When I was interviewing Bobby Weir, a musician walked in during the middle of the interview (which I'll be posting soon)... Bobby stood up and interviewed him on my mic in the middle of our interview. Little did I know that it was Jack Casady! Jack told Bobby that he was going to be playing onstage with Mule, and Bobby said, "So am I!"
Funny random events at Roo kept happening all weekend.
