Galactic, but don't forget about Ben Harper. Ironically, He has a song called "Bring the funk" and has quite a respectable catalog of funky songs to follow that one as well. If you wanna hear some funky beats, check out Ben. Trust me!
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.

Galactic is the closest to pure funk of this year's artists that I know. After that it's probably Don Byron and Chris Thomas King. They're going to be playing the music of Junior Walker, who recorded Shotgun and some other R&B classics. In fact, if you like jazz, there's a number of acts that are more than a little funky, including Medeski & Martin, Stanton Moore Trio, Philadelphia Experiment, and Lou Donaldson with Lonnie Smith. I don't know the Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians, but they're from New Orleans, so have to be funk-friendly.

I agree that if you want to see the funk, go to the jazz tent. Galactic is usually pretty funky, but it sounds like this new stuff is more hip hop, similar to the roots.
gathering of the vibes will funk your face off. im going there for my funk needs. as if the james brown tribute with george clinton and p-funk and deep banana blackout werent enough they give us john browns body and bomb squad too. plus the rest of the lineup is insane. possibly my favorite lineup of the year. damn im excited for vibes!
On The Roots' latest tour they had a five-piece horn section that brought the serious funk. In the midle of the show ?uestlove got on another drum kit and he and the horn section did a SICK James Brown medley. The Roots WILL bring the funk.
Galactic will bring the serious funk grooves with some of the sickest MCs spittin' flows over top. This may be the show of the weekend for a brother like myself.
The Wild Magnolias bring the sloppy Nawlins funk.
Stanton Moore Trio will bring the jazzy funk.
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings SHOULD have been the chief purveryors of funk at Roo this year, but I guess we'll just have to wait until next year.

galactic gets pretty funky
Galactic will be funky, so long as you don't mind a little hip-hop in your funk. I'm a little disappointed that I'll be missing most of Galactic for Flaming Lips since Galactic has a host of amazing MCs who aren't appearing anywhere else in the festival like Chali 2na (from Jurassic 5), Gift of Gab (from Blackalicious) and Lyrics Born (from Haiku d'Etat) among others.
But if you're looking for funk, Galactic definitely won't disappoint. George Clinton is great and all, but every time I've seen him its been basically the same experience (a fun one, but same old same old none the less). This will be a totally unique show.
