Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
""The singer in the Police jumps like a "petulant pansy," the drummer is making a "complete hash," and who knows what the guitarist is doing?""
So, is that any different than they have always been!? LOL
I will be at the Police, and I hope they do excellent. However, I'm not really counting on it. Hopefully, they will excel and make me a fan of their live performance. From what I have seen on video, I'm not holding my breath... They should call out as many special guests as possible, IMO, they just may need the help.
That's why I was glad we were early but not too early in the tour. They need time to get the kinks out but not enough time to start hating each other again. I think both will happen pretty quickly.
and yea, i'm looking at their set as icing on the cake, not one of the main acts i'm looking forward to and if it's a dud, no problems off into the late-night madness we go...
This is WHY we love the Police. They are consumate musicians, hyper critical of their own work and not ashamed to talk about it. How many frank comments like this are you likely to get from other musicians? Even with these subjective, from-the-eye-of-the-storm comments they still put on a show everyone considers an absolute triumph.
I wouldn't worry about quality, lest you think you're as talented and acutely aware of The Police's acumen as Stewart--- my only worry is whether they pull the plug before Bonnaroo, but thankfully we're slotted early in the tour.
This shouldn't surprise anyone they never got along let just hope they keep it together until Bonnaroo is over, now the fall tour they keep talking about might be in jeopardy.
its early in a reunion tour so hopefully they get all the mishaps out by bonnaroo. i bet that bonnaroo will teach them how to kick up the rest of the tour.
Stewart Copeland rips The Police half jokingly, but... he's the musically the most talented by far in the group. I've seen a lot of live Police stuff where Andy Summers' backup vocals are SO off....
But hey, it's very early in their tour, and well.. I got this e-mail when trying to get an interview with Sting/Stewart:
Hi Moe, Sting and Stewart greatly appreciate your support. Unfortunately, the band will basically be flying right in and then out again and will not have any time to do any interviews at the festival. Thanks for your understanding in this matter. The show should be amazing! Their rehearsals in Vancouver have been incredible!
As long as their laughing about it, we're fine. When they start throwing punches, we better think of another headliner. I've got a video of one of their tours where Copeland has "F--k Sting" written on his tom-toms in duct tape. Hopefully it doesn't get like that again.

I think people are concentrating too much on The Police's past. The guys are adults now, and it seems they have taken a more relaxed approach to their music. I'm pretty confident that they all have found a good amount of humility and are gonna stick together however long they want. Good article, a few awesome quotes by Stewart.
"It usually takes about four or five shows in a tour before you get to the disaster gig. But we're The Police so we are a little ahead of schedule," he said.

"Screw it, it's only music. What are you gonna do? But maybe it's time to get out of Vancouver."
I think they'll be fine, but I've always been of the mindset that this will be their only tour. I am glad they're doing a few shows before Roo, so they should be in prime form.
As long as they don't pull a Spinal Tap and leave early.
"Stealing? How could you?! Haven’t you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain What’s-his-name? We live in a society of laws. Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn’t hear anybody laughin’, did you? Except at that guy who made sound effects. Where was I? Oh yeah -- stay out of my booze."

Don't think I'll even see them. There's just so many other great bands that blow the police away......not a good name for a band anyways.........I didn't even listen to them much back in the 80s.........they were part of that new wave of bands that sounded plastic to us hippiy kids back then........I guess for nostalgia reeasons, poeple want to see them, but it's like, they song repwetar is not even close to alotta other bands, so I don't even think they should be such a big deal. I'm just not impressed with them.
He's COMPLETELY tongue in cheek with his comments, and taking everyone for a ride b/c he knows how they're considered "consummate musicians..." Honestly, how could the Police of all people stage a reunion tour without taking the piss a little bit??? I'll be there, with a few thousand of my friends.

I wouldn't be too worried. I can think of pleanty of incredible bands who I've seen serve up a big portion of nuts, and then come back the next show and blow everyone away.(Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic) I think Stewart is probably just calling it like he sees it. He has been part of Oysterhead and played with artist like Trey and Les who specialize in alot of improv (jamming). It's probably difficult for him to play this reeeaally rehearsed stuff and not see it for what it is, Pop music. The Hayday of the police was at a completely different day and age in music, we should probably keep that in mind before we really start judging them.
Weatherbill, you should check em' out. Stewart and Sting (I don't really know much about Andy) are both incredible musicians, if Stewart can convince his band mates they really need to cut loose as mentioned in a different article:

You also have to consider that sounding off to Stewart Copeland may not be noticeable at all for you. I'm sure The Police will have their show together by roo, as they are all top notch musicians. Andy Summers can hold his own, as i think people will see in less then two weeks!

I agree for the most part, except about the humility comment. Sting, from articles I've read and testimonials from other artists who have worked with him, is a pretty pompous, narcissistic sonuvabitch. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised of turmoil within the band again, just because of Sting.
