Q101 is notorious for sh*tty moves.
well put, the only two stations for me in Chicago are 93.1 XRT, and 97.1 the Drive.....i f'n hate q101.
EDIT: you cant find anything on this call because i believe the station is in a bit of legal trouble because of this, i was just listening to see if they said anything about it, and they had a "re-enactment" of the phone call with a Chris Rock impersonator playing Jack White and the actual DJs playing themselves.....they said it was because of legal reasons....it was funny sh*t though, but the phone call itself wasnt that big of a deal....basically Jack saying that what they did was wrong, and what they did, is what is wrong with the music industry today.....and the DJs were like "its just our job" "we were just handed a disc" "dont you want us supporting your music" (to which he answered NO) .....these DJs are a bunch of sallys, i f'n hate q101

i say go jack. if i were an artist i wouldnt want my tracks to be released before i actually wanted them to be
speaking of tracks being released early, the album has apparently leaked, does anyone have any little birdies who can tell them where to get it.....pretty puh-leeze! ;D
It looks like that except for the first four tracks, the rest of the album "leak" right now is radio rips from Q101 playing it and the quality isn't good at all.

I can understand an artist getting pissed about their work getting leaked, but this has been a known phenomenon for a long time now. People are gonna find a way to share the music for free amongst themselves no matter what copywrite laws are in place and even if the industry prosecutes a few as an example.
In my opinion, the music industry needs to accept that this will happen and figure out a new way to make their dollars. For example the live show could be a more significant way of making their monies and they can make limited edition collector CDs or something.
I realize the issue is a little more complex in this situation since the album was broadcast, but the music industry needs to adapt. Try as they may, they can’t stop leaks from happening.

They cant stop the album from leaking but they can sure has hell stop douchebags like those dj's from playing an entire album of unrealesed material on the air. Especially with no written consent. Those guys need to be fired or in some trouble.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

They weren't able to stop it from being aired. It has already happened. Yes, punishing the DJ's and/or the radio station is something they can do to perhaps prevent it from happening in the future but even if it works and the radio station is made an example, how does that prevent the music from being leaked to people anyway? Record companies and artist need to face this fact. Jack I'm sure was pissed because he feels that now all the promotional activites for the album have been compromised because of the airing of the album, but the album was leaked anyway regardless of whether they aired it or not.
Record company Marketing Departments need to get even more creative these days in order to make record sales despite album leaks.

Holy Sh!t! That is a grueling schedule. They are definitely working hard for this one!
To add to what I was saying above... Some artist even encourage album leaks (not outwardly though) because it helps with publicity. People give the album to their friends and word of their music spreads. Then the person becomes a fan and goes out and buys the high quality CD (rather than the low quality rip they were given) with the cool artwork on the CD cover for themselves and voila! More album sales. Then the person becomes a fan and goes to the concerts and spends their money on artist merchandise. So album leaks are not always a bad thing to some artists anyway.

Jack typically releases the album to press prior to release date on Vinyl only (as he says a rock journalists without a turntable does not deserve to review an album, I entirely agree). I don't think WB agreed to that. It typically holds off too many leaks a bit longer. People who download leaks are the biggest problem. If this radio station played the entire album the RIAA should sue them, not some 12 year old girls.
Jack loves his music and it is his music, he gets very upset when people use it without his permission. I recall a much music interview years ago where he got kinda upset about someone sampling without paying him.
Well Im sure he can become upset over his music. However, he hangs out near my house (near the infamous murder kroger) and Ive ran into him a couple of times and he seems very nice in person. Im not saying hes not hot headed but he can also be nice intepersonally.

Anyway….
This seems to be the mindset of the radio station as well. The label apparently also knew that they were going to play the album.
she is a very nice Dj named Elektra, and he almost made her cry!! Down with Jack White!!!
<sarcasm> awww... bless her heart. </sarcasm> Maybe next time she will think twice before messing with Mr. White. She had to know that she might get in trouble for what she was doing. Suck it up and take responsibility for your actions Elektra.

i read jack did that to conflic with cubs games. he really is a genius.

You have negative karma for a reason,.... obviously. Mr. spelling bee champion....
Haha...he didn't misspell anything in that post...did he bring up spelling errors at some point before or something?
I did look back and notice that he misspelled disappointed in a previous post (he had it as dissapointed), but surely you couldn't have been dwelling on that.

"It's a new time, in that you don't know what the rules are anymore. We're fighting to stay relevant with people who listen to the radio, and if they get something three weeks ahead of us, that makes us irrelevant." Spike said that although the White Stripes' label, Warner Bros. Records, knew the station was going to play the album, Q101 was served with a cease-and-desist order five hours after the airing and has not played it again; the station has also honored White's request that the tape of his heated exchange with Electra not be aired."
The assistant programming director of a huge radio station is claiming he "doesn't know what the rules are"? That is weak, real weak.
