Anyone else think that they should have gotten a later time slot? I was thinking around 7 or so right before Tool. Just me? Actually would have loved them in the midnight slot but the Lips will be great.
I don't know, I've enjoyed them in the afternoon the last 2 times I saw them at Bonnaroo. I don't think they have a show that is necessarily better at night like the FLips or STS9 or the DJs do.

I have enjoyed their daytime shows too. Just saw them at Coachella and they were great with the sun setting. But I could see them just pulling out an amazing 2.5 hour midnight set. Kinda like MMJ's set last year. Everyone knew it was going to be great but no one knew it was going to be that brilliant. I think KOL could easily do that. Their new album has so many more textures and moods to it than previous works. Knocked Up at night would sound amazing (not that it wouldn't sound amazing any other time but you know what I am getting at)
I feel fine about the current time slot for KOL. there not playing against anyone that would cause me to miss them and i can still catch the end of the hot chip set after.
this way there is less competition and they can pull out a brilliant set during the day just as good as night. I am happy to kick start my day with kings!

I am glad they are on the What stage too, and to be honest very surprised. I guess they are finally catching on in America. I've got friends I forced the HRN EP on who did nothing with it only to suddenly love the new disc and the band...go KOL!!
Yeah I'm upset that they're almost right up against The Nightwatchmen. I've seen KOL twice before, so it looks like I'll be catchin a little of their set then over to see Tom Morello.

I agree, I wish Superfly put them on before Tool or late night.
They are three evolved albums into the game now and I wouldn't mind the coolness of the evening to rock out to them.
Not to mention hearing "Knocked Up" and "On Call" live for the first time.
This family band is going the way of the Stones with how thier songs are maturing, evolving, and changing.
I can't complain too much, at least they are playing!
They are getting better in my opinion....you shall see. They did not play ragoo once when I saw them in dallas or houston. RAGOO WILL RULE!!! need to hear that....a must!
No. They aren't as big as The Roots or Manu Chao. The fact that they got a bigger slot than Franti, whose been around longer and has a larger fanbase is probably saying something. I'm sure if they pay their dues like the other guys and keep selling records, they'll get the choicer slots in the future...

I think this about dead on. The slot they have now right is where I figured they would be (just sucks Gillian Welch is playing the same time). In 04 they were in a tent, in 05 they were either the first or second band of the day on the 2nd stage, and now they get a chance to open up the main stage.

^^ They opened the smaller stage in 05. I think they get some special treatment for being Tenn. boys. I will say, I have seen them many time, that the 05 stage show was the best I saw of them. They seemed to come alive. All the other times they just stood still (which was fine cause they still brought the rock) but at roo they were moving about in those fancy wool sweaters. I think this show will really be impressive, they have a really big crowd to teach a rock n roll lesson too, they know this is an important show.

Actually, they played right after the 22-20s on Which Stage in 05, but that's just me being anal
KoL is my favorite band for many reasons, but especially because of the growth I've seen in them over their three albums. Their evolution and wise decision making is developing them into one of the biggest acts worldwide. Though people in the States are slowly catching on, they have been huge in England, Australia, and Ireland since their first album was released.
I think their set time is a reflection on how they SHOULD be received in the US, rather than how they ARE. They deserve to be on the main stage at Bonnaroo because they have been on the main stage of every European festival by now, and this has the potential to push them over the edge with American fans. They will truly put on an epic set.
Also, with regards to the "before Tool" or "late night" wants, I don't think they have enough material or jam out enough to cover a three hour set time the way MMJ did. Give them one more album, we'll see the direction they take, and then maybe they will get that spot.
