So, since I play bass, I'm always interested in a band with a solid bass player, no matter the genre. Anybody know of maybe some of the lesser-known acts playing this year with real talent holding down the bottom end? Other than Tool, Galactic, The Roots, The Police, Jack White's Octave Pedal, etc...
I know who Phil Lesh is, but I didn't get Alyroo's sadness above... I thought she was referring to someone no longer with us. Phil Lesh isn't dead, is he?

No one on that level for anyone^. ;D Last year also had Ryan Stasik, Danyel Morgan, Rob Derhak, Mike Gordon, and Chris Wood. This year theres a lot more quality guitarists though, imo.
I dunno...I have always loved the way Keith Mosely (SCI) plays Bass...he is never to in the way of everyhting else goin on but always has a nice chill bass line going
but seriously, as a bassist you really need to listen to A LOT of Phil Lesh.
yep. he is one of my formeost influences but i have yet to figure out his playing style. its so different than any other bassist before him (and after for that matter). he doesnt stick to normal bass rules, and out of that comes greatness.
Hell yea....I kept scrolling down wondering why no one had mentioned the best bass player at 'roo this year. Also check out Dave Schools of WSP, I'll bet that he sits in w/ Mule on Saturday night.
