Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Last yr it was a comedian and Rebirth Brass Band... both of whom were part of the main lineup. You gotta think it'll be a second or third-tier acts who isn't playing Thurs nite... let the speculation begin!
Assuming they stick with artists currently on the lineup, here's my pseudo-realistic wish-list:
Old Crow Medicine Show Gillian Welch/David Rawlings Paolo Nutini Pete Yorn Cold War Kids The Hold Steady (yeah right)
I asked around all day thursday at the VIP hospitality tent but no one with a crew shirt on knew anything. They'll announce it during the VIP pre-party thursday. Expect a band already at the festival, but a smaller act. Definitely no Hold Steady. OCMS is a good pick. The stage is small. They turned the inside of the Kat Nap Cafe inside out for it. Meaning the stage that was in Kat Nap was moved outside the tent to face the VIP tent.

Is the VIP band usually of this calibar? I knew there was a band, but if it's half of the above bands it's gonna kick some serious ass!

OK, ANYONE but Paolo Nutini and I'd agree with that statement....if you get stuck with him I'd have to say that...well, you got stuck...
Pete Yorn is a good guess because he could solo acoustic it out (he did an entire tour of over 50 indie record stores last year by himself in such a way). They typically have a stripped down technical component, relying on few electronics or bands that make sufficient noise on their own (i.e. Rebirth).
I keep thinking back to the 'roo email that announced the VIP sellout -- said something like "we've gone out of our way to make the VIP experience extra special this year" or something like that... hoping it means a more marquee thurs nite act. i've never actually heard paolo nutini, but his name came up after a quick skim of the lineup. i guess there's always a chance we could get someone who's not on the main queue, but judging from prior yrs i'd say that's doubtful. damn i hope it's OCMS. gotta think it'll be something somewhat high energy/party vibe.
Does anyone remember around what time this VIP thing took place last year? I might not be set up until 9 PM on Thursday.
Somebody (TickTrix?) posted pics of the VIP party/band on here a couple weeks back. Looked like the comedian was on around sundown. Band was on once it was starting to get dark.
The Hold Steady is here in Asheville NC on Thurs, so rule them out. Last yr I believe the band (Rebirth Brass) played from 9ish until 11ish. Still holding out hope for Old Crow Medicine Show or Gillian Welch/David Rawlings. As others have pointed out, the stage setup is very lo-fi, so don't expect a full-on rock band with drums, electric guitars, etc.
Just took a look at tour schedules for OCMS and Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings. OCMS had a show on the 8th in Austin--their last show before Roo. Gillian Welch's site lists the entire weekend of Bonnaroo, not just the day she's on the schedule. So it's at least possible that one of them will be the VIP act.
But I'm holding out hope for both--they've played together before (Gillian is even in the Wagon Wheel video). I think I might die of happiness if that's what's in store.
