Brag time for me....saw all three with the drummer from the melvins!
since we are bragging, i saw those songs 4 times. 3 with guest drummers on triad. once with drummer from fantomas, once with drummer for tomahawk and mike patton on keys or whatever he was doing and once with drummer and one of the other guys from meshuggah.

So when I first saw Tool was a headliner I was a bit confused as to why they're at Roo this year, much less headlining. Now after a long time of pondering, I'm actually glad they're headlining because it'll give me more incentive to go see them since nobody else is playing while they are. Too bad everyone I'm going with has decided "Tool Time" (Home Improvement pun, anyone?) is good "catch up on sleep" time....

This may be a lesson for some people... Have an open mind when it comes to shows... After 'roo,... when everbody is talking about TOOL's set, I'll bet ya they are gonna wish they attended... BTW,... the show in MS was awesome,.... we took a couple folks that had never seen TOOL, and they are still AMP'd... Peace, -JM
I just got back from the Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon tour in Tampa (May 19th) and if TOOL can match that show (which I think they can and will exceed) then I'm going to have a good summer worth of shows.

I had hoped that people would have learned about Roo-grets after reading/hearing how bad some people felt after missing the iconic Radiohead show.
yea exactly, i had a friend that thanked me for mths after roo for making him go hear radiohead, who he 'wasnt so into'. yea. he changed his mind ;D
Same thing happened with a friend of mine last year. Despite Radiohead '06, the same scenario will play out for a few unfortunate folks this year apparently. And next year we will probably hear of how people missed out on yet another stellar show simply because they refused to try something new for a couple of hours.
Perhaps some of us here should pledge to make one person at Bonnaroo (friend or stranger) go to the Tool set that otherwise would not.
I guarantee a few people will have their minds blown. I was just reading the lyrics to Vicarious today. Intense, surreal.
I'm going to have to watch the visuals on the screen more intently at Bonnaroo, so I may utilize the VIP bleachers on the mainstage for the first time, just so I can see the stage better and shoot video.

I plan to bring some sort of bucket with me. That way I'll have something to melt into. I will leave a note attached & hope that a kind stranger will carry my puddle-self back to my tent.

It certainly will be far better than any Roger Waters show. Not to say that I haven't had a damn good time seeing Roger Waters, but TOOL is an otherworldly experience in itself. Regarding alll the wussbags that sleep through TOOL so they can stick flowers in their arses during the stinging sneeze accident, well they can have it. I'd rather have more room for TOOL to push the envelope.

First off, I don't think you can even compare Roger Waters and Tool... they're just complete opposites musically I think.
Second, are you trying to make fun of the string cheese incident and the people that like the band? Cause well, they happen to be a high priority for the majority of Roo. Personally, I'd like to see both Tool and SCI, but we'll see how I work these schedule conflicts out.

hey mokane, caught both the Waters DSOTM show and Tool last year and thought how great each one was but hiw they would be that much better at Bonnaroo.....so happy to have one of them. The fact that I will be in a state to completely appreciate all the visual and sonic glory has me counting the days....21.....
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
most big bands with light and vid shows usually have people who tour with them and manually trigger the lights and stuff during the set. if you think about it, it would be absurd to have all the lights automated and have the band follow the lights or videos.
Not that much different from playing with a sequencer or pre-recorded tracks, which lots of bands do... But it can definitely go either way, and I wouldn't be surprised if Tool's effects are manually fired.

Absolutely. It will be one of those things that 50,000 people attend but 250,000 will say they were there (yes I know that's more than the amount of people at 'Roo altogether... just making a point.)
they've been playing the album version of pushit recently. i really hope they bust it out at the roo! or friday june 8th exactly a week before bonnaroo!!!!!!
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this

I don't appreciate that comment either. Just because you like one band does not mean you don't like another. I personally will not be missing cheese because they are breaking up in their current form after this summer and bonnaroo will be one show they will put everything into. They are a big contribution to music today whether you realize it or not. they started a label that has introduced many bands to the world (some even at bonnaroo) and created a ticket company just to bring music to people without the ticketmaster fees and bull shit. They bring countless forms of music together. You may not appreciate one band but don't act like they don't mean nuts. I will be going to tool along with most of bonnaroo at that time but will also stick flowers in my ass and see cheese. Think about who you are making fun.

Well, they don't mean nuts to me, and I've actually given them a chance, have been to 3 of their shows. The wussbags I'm referring to are the ones who are so dumbfounded by the idea of psychedelic metal that they actually PLAN on skipping Tool. Really, I feel sorry for them. Same deal with the people who skipped Radiohead last year because they didn't feel that they "fit in" to what bonnaroo should be in their minds. Music is awesome. You're not going to like all of it. You're not going to understand any of it unless you put yourself in a position to be immersed. Anyone who has only listened to Tool should go see them, just to be able to see what every Tool freak is blathering on about.

The Tool\Alex Grey collaboration is pure genius. I had the privilege of visiting Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in NYC and seeing those paintings in person is inspiring to say the least. Just wish he would have been playing Tool rather than some New Agey-style tinkling.
